"This is definitely my first and LAST purchase from Officemax.
I ordered 3 50$ itunes gift cards on sale on August 22 2013. I received a confirmation email indicating it 'shipped'. I patiently waited for 2 weeks but still no gift cards. The package tracking of Officemax is completely useless. It will just say 'shipped' and no tracking number will be given to you. Their reason is that they mail it via US postal. Well guys, I believe even postal has a tracking system.
So I decided to contact their customer service. The woman was nice and friendly though I'll give her that. They told me the same thing. It 'shipped' and it will take 7-10 days for postal to deliver it. Ok then I can be patient for another week I guess ..
BUT THEN this really ticked me off.. an email was sent to me by a third party affiliated site called Giftcardmall.com indicating that my gift cards were shipped. So WTF was that 'shipped' confirmation email two weeks ago? They lied about the US postal being slow and it was actually a delay on Giftcardmall.com's end. Lies.
Now God only knows when those gift cards will ship.. Sigh.. The discount is not worth the trouble. Shop elsewhere."
"They canceled my order out of blue. WTH? No email notification, nothing. I had to go to their web page to find out my order was canceled!

"On 2012-12-22 I ordered three PNY 32GB SDHC Cards (Item: 23762448) at $14.99 each, for a sub-total of $44.97. I needed $50 for free shipping, so I threw in a cheap, $6.50, surge protector (Item: 22304533), that I didn't really need, but shipping was going to cost me about the same anyway. This brought my sub-total to $51.47, plus $3.60 tax, for a final total of $55.07. On 2013-01-04 I received an eMail from "Kymberlie Burris" of OfficeMax Customer Service informing me that the 32GB SDHC cards were out of stock, and would not be restocked due to being discontinued. What kind of store of their size doesn't have a real time inventory system? I replied that this was unacceptable, and let them know that I wasn't surprised, as this seems to be a common complaint about them here on reseller ratings. The first eMail went unanswered, so I sent again. Again, no reply, so I sent it a third time, this time with a note about how poor their PR must be if they intended to let a customers complaint go unanswered. This time I finally got a reply with the offer of $10 off one SDHC card purchase. Hardly worth it, especially seeing how after tax and shipping, I could buy from any number of online retailers for far cheaper. The only good deal they had was the $14.99 32GB SDHC, and that was now unavailable. I did manage to snag one of the $14.99 32GB SDHC from one of their brick & mortar stores, who also were unsurprisingly, always (other than that one time) out of stock. After being told 5+ times that "we just sold the last one 5~10mins ago", you start to suspect they are lying."
"I purchased 2 Christmas Gifts (monitors) in the beginning of December, and NEITHER of them have shipped. The main office max site CLEARLY says that orders placed before Dec. 19 would be shipped in time for Christmas, and both product pages CLEARLY say that the item ships in 3-5 days.
It's been a few weeks, and both my orders are still processing. Finally, I call customer service and find out that they are both back-ordered... No notice or anything. SO I quickly try and cancel my order, only to find out that I cant because it's sold be a vender, and the only thing they can do is put in a request... And their "by Christmas Guarantee" doesn't cover items sold by venders.
I had to pay for rush shipping on Amazon to get my product in time for Christmas and now I'm out 50 bucks in Shipping charges. I'm still furious at them, and after reading these reviews, I'm canceling my other order. "
"Absolutely the worst and disorganized store !
They ordered a desk for me 3 weeks ago from another store, I was told it will be here to pick up in 2-3 days/ Did not get a call back over a week went by, called them numerous times to find out the hold up ? Everytime I got an inesperienced school kid mgr on the phone with no clue and no solution. Now I am with without a Holiday present for my child that was expected.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CHAIN !"
"I purchased an OfficeMax-branded ink cartridge for my HP inkjet printer in late October 2012. I didn't use the printer for just over a week in December, and, upon return, discovered that the cartridge was dead. I took it back to the OfficeMax store where I bought it to see if I could obtain some adjustment. I had a 20%-off coupon when I bought the cartridge so the manager offered me a new cartridge with the same discount. He pointed out that the cartridges were not on sale. So I was offered a 20% discount on a new cartridge as an adjustment for a cartridge that lasted six weeks - the same deal that I got in October. I had no choice but to take it but at least he let me use the discount on an HP cartridge. The moral? Don't buy OfficeMax-branded merchandise."
"I purchased a Toshiba laptop computer online for pickup in store. When I got to the store, the clerk brought out the wrong computer at first. When I pointed that out, she went back and got the right one, but it had been previously opened. I questioned that, saying that I paid for a new computer, not a display model or a returned computer. The clerk insisted that it was not a display model, saying that "it was just opened because it was the last one." However, some of the packaging material was missing and the power cord was just thrown in the box loosely, so it clearly had been powered up and used either as a display model or by a customer that returned it. The clerk talked me into taking it, insisting that it was new and had not been put on display. When I got it home, I noticed the word "display" clearly written in red marker across the end of the box. I returned it and I will not purchase from Office Max again."
"The worst customer service and shipping I have ever had. Not only did the order take 4 days to place, it took a week to ship, then they damaged 2 of the items. When they sent it back they only refunded the item and not resend me another. I had to re-order the item just to get them to process paperwork on it. On top of that they wouldn't process that for another 2 days. I have been waiting for 3 items for 2 weeks and only received 1. Now its another week for the other items. I encourage everyone to not buy anything from this company. So disappointed."
"OfficeMax.com repeatedly shows an item available to ship when it is not, and doesn't fix it even after interaction with Customer Service.

Dear Joshua,
Please cancel my order and confirm by reply email.
Your website currently shows that the item is available, as it did when I ordered and as it did when I wrote you asking the status:

TurboTax Premier - Extra guidance for investments & rental property income
Item # : 23660815

Ships In : 1 to 3 days

Your website is clearly inconsistent with a backorder delivery date of Dec 14 - its simply fraudulent.
I could have gotten a comparable deal elsewhere on Black Friday; now prices are higher. So you can expect I will report my experience on several online forums, and not be back to shop at your site again. Please pass this information on to your CEO.

"I have stopped shopping at Office Max because their MaxPerks rewards programs comes across to me as a scam - totally user unfriendly and designed to frustrate you until you give up. I now buy my office supplies at Office Depot, which has a rewards program that is easy to use and actually works."
"OfficeMax website had logitech performance mx mice for 20$ each. I bought four of them over the weekend. I find out today that it was supposedly a pricing error. My order after i ordered 4 of them said that my card would not be charged. However it was charged immediately for 85.60$ So i called the company and was told i would receive a call back once corporate office told them wether or not they were going to cancel the orders. So i said ok thank you, i understand things happen. But after the phone call i looked up to see what other pring errors officemax has had in the past and ran across this site and apprently they do this pricing error all the time. So i called back and spoke to a supervisor who told me the orders were already going to be canceled plain and simple. So i told him i beleived i needed some type of credit for the site and was told they would mail me a 10.00$ gift card. I will use the gift card at some point assuming i even get it. but i do beleive the supervisor will send it. anyway meanwhile i have to wait for the 85.60 to fall off my account. They should be held legally responsible for these issues. They have so many pricing errors that either someone needs fired or they need to start honoring the prices they put on the site.
UPDATE : Since there are literally thousands of complaints against as many products, i have contacted the ftc and let them know. They told me that they do not handle individual complaints but look for patterns in order to take action. so anybody who has had this happen to them i highly urge you to contact the ftc at 1-***-***-****. press 1 to submit a complaint"
"Office Max its a scam.......!!!!!!!! They cancel my order a few times by saying that its for resell.......... So i think that you should never buy by they. Only by the other stores like Staples.Etc."
"I had an AWFUL experience with a Gateway laptop that I bought from an Office Max store in Aug. 2008. I purchased a 3 year extended warranty, which I was forced to use many times. Within 1 month of purchase, I had to send my laptop back to Gateway because the mother board was shot. It was at this time that I was informed that my Gateway warranty was only until May 30, 2009, but it was supposed to go until August 2009. Warning flags went off -- I'm guessing that I was sold a piece of crap returned laptop. I had to send my laptop in for repair 4 more times over the next 3 years - mother board again, twice the hard drive took a dump, and once the power source failed. Ironically, just 1 month after my extended warranty expired, the power source has failed once again. What a lemon. I will never, ever, ever, ever purchase anything from Office Max again.
(oh, and the first two times my laptop required repair, I was told to go through Gateway, as my extended Max Assurance protection plan would not begin until the 1 year Gateway warranty was done. This means that my Max Assurance warranty should have gone through Aug. 2012. So, I called back in August to request a repair for my laptop's power source (....again), only to be told that my extended warranty lapsed 1 year ago, and that it did, in fact, run concurrent with the Gateway 1 year warranty. How does that even make sense? FRAUD.)"
"In short, the service in the store was horrible, the warranty is a scam, and the entire thing was deceptive, degrading, and despicable.
I purchased an office chair at this OfficeMax on 9/15/11. It was a $180 chair that was discounted to $100. I was told by the sales associate and a manager or supervisor that if I purchased the 3 year warranty on the chair that it would be replaced if anything happened to it, no questions asked.
I was wary of this promise so I checked the service protection booklet as well. It said that "If your furniture fails, we arrange to have it repaired and pay the bill - no deductibles, no hidden fees. If your product cannot be repaired, it will be replaced." Less than a year later and the seams are coming apart on the chair. I call the customer service number and they tell me (after more than an hour wait) that they can reimburse me for the $100 purchase price of the chair, but nothing more. They will not arrange to have it repaired; they said that wasn't even an option. When I asked to have it replaced, they said they don't have a warehouse with products and that they never replace anything, they just reimburse the customer for the purchase price.
I assumed there must be some misunderstanding and spoke to a supervisor on the phone to no avail. I then went into the store to try to get my chair replaced. I spoke to Ryan, the store manager. He told me he could do nothing at all. He couldn't give me money or a chair. He told me that he found nothing confusing about the service protection pamphlet, despite it never even using the words "reimburse" or "purchase price" anywhere. He told me that he didn't understand why I found it confusing, that no one in his twelve years had ever complained about not being able to get the product they purchased a warranty for replaced with the same or an equivalent product. He insinuated, without actually saying it, that I was an idiot and he just wished I would leave.
I asked him, "Which is more clear, more helpful to the customer, or better represents the actual warranty program: 'If your product cannot be repaired, it will be replaced.' [this being what is actually written in the pamphlet] or 'If your product cannot be repaired, you will be reimbursed for the purchase price of the product, not including any discounts on the original retail price.'" [this being what the program actually is]. He literally laughed at me and said he found nothing confusing about the wording in the pamphlet.
In the end, I received nothing for my time, effort, and frustrations except to have a store manager laugh at me for wanting the chair I purchased to be replaced with the same or an equivalent product. Utterly disgusting customer service."
"My computer cannot open the file from the shot cut on the desktop screen. I ran the antivirus program and found no virus, so I bring my computer to OfficeMax since I have the free system screen coupon. Drew the tech guy over there was nice and told me that he need to get the system diagnostic and fix for $120s. And he said if it not fixed, I will get a refund so there are no risk for me. I left the computer with him overnight. He called me the next day and said that my computer was fixed. So I pick it up and bring back home. Now it worst, not only it wasn’t fixed but my other programs were wipe out (my calculator on my window, my photoshop… ect.) and my cd/dvd drive is not working also (It work fine before I bought my computer in). So I try to down load the drive from the Dell support site. It can’t be installed too. Plus, when I ran the antivirus program, I found 2 viruses in my computer. I got them deleted then I bring the computer back to OfficeMax, they kept it again over night. I came back to them 2 days after and they told me that it can’t be fixed! So I asked for the refund per promised. The tech guy told me that I have to come on Thursday 19th to get the manager to approve the refund. I came back and the assistant manager told me that “NO WAY” point blank. "
