What is the purpose of customer service?

"This has been the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I don't blame the representatives. They are clearly given scripted empathy and the authority to access and resolve nothing.

I tried to fill a prescription refill originally ordered through Drs. Foster and Smith. Who not only had great pricing, but outstanding customer service. There was no way to tell when I placed the order that I had five refills available. I called the next day to verify that this would be filled off of my five refills through Drs Foster and Smith. The customer service rep scripted me for half an hour gave me nothing and added irrelevance. I was assured at the end of our useless and maddening conversation that a supervisor would call me back. That never happened.

I then decided, against my better judgement, to use online chat. When I explained I had placed my order originally with Foster and Smith and was looking to see if they had my refill info he asked me why I didn't call Foster and Smith. I typed back "You are Foster and Smith now". The line went quite and I never heard anything else. I then got the bright idea to call Foster and Smith from the number on my original packing slip. They were so helpful. They were able to look up my original order and tell me yes indeed, I did have five refills and it should just be refilled. They told me the information was sent over to Express Scripts, the company Petco now uses.

Later that day, I got a call from some random vet in my area telling me Express Scripts sent them over a verification and they weren't sure who I was. I told them to ignore it and I would call Petco to get it straightened out. I called back Petco and asked why a vet I didn't even know was calling me about a prescription verification, this is a refill order and I entered my vet's information with my order. He took the name of my vet again. I asked him if he could verify that I had refills on file. He said he couldn't and no supervisor was available. I asked if he could call Foster and Smith and Express Scripts to get this straightened out and he hung up on me.

I waited two more days and, just again, contacted customer service. He told me not to worry that they were still within their allotted time frame to fill me order. I asked him to verify that this was a refill order. He told me the status is that they are waiting for vet verification. I asked him which vet, and what about the refill. He gave me the name of my vet's office, the name of a vet I have never heard of and a fax not even in the same area code. I corrected him and asked him once again to verify the status of my REFILL. He said he could not Someone would have to call me back within 24-48 hours. I had to leave it at If I don't hear back by the end of the day I will have to cancel the order and drive 45 minutes to my dog's specialty vet to pick it up myself.

My dog has bone cancer, his specialty vet is 45 minutes away. I sure hope Petco's antiquated business practices havent ruined a good thing in Drs Foster and Smith. They have for sure lost a customer.

Online ordering easy, store stock hit or miss

"Shipping and pricing for online orders has been great, especially using the repeat delivery. There's enough flexibility to get your orders ahead of time when their scheduling options don't fit with your own. Store inventory of the items we need most often always seems hit or miss, though, which is why we primarily skip the store and just order everything from PetCo.com"

Sold us a sick cat

"It may be my area, or it may be Petco. I dunno. My wife could not leave without getting a cat. I was there for fish supplies. To Petco's credit, it is the only store in the Tulsa area that has aquarium plants in stock, and on display. I have looked everywhere.

So she gets this male cat (shots, spayed, etc) we fork out about $130 for the animal and toys and stuff. "The cat loves people" and "he is well behaved" and "He only eats dry food" and "he is playful"

Well, yeah. He loves people all right. It's been 2 months and I can't do anything. He is worse than a cholicy newborn. J**** C***** he will not stop crying and is the neediest animal I have ever seen. This is not the main problem. His teeth, gums, and possibly esophagus are all messsed up. So, he won't eat dry food as he is in constant pain. His breath smells like something was dug up from the grave, and I don't think the vet was accurate in his diagnosis in "just some gingivitis". It's rotting flesh I smell, not gingivitis. The cat is 9 months old.

As the vet bills keep stacking up, I'll remember to get my next pet from Walmart. Parking lot. For free. The cat was a shelter cat (small, private shelter, nice lady) but had been in the store "for a long time" and as the retail for such animals, they are equipped with staff to examine the animals and do take some responsibility for the pets they sell. If they do not, they should.

Too busy to do business

"I called 4 times to make an appointment for my dog to be groomed. Each time there was some excuse why they could not. The computer was down, one person did not work in that department and the person who does went on break, another time I was told she could not get to the computer, another time put on hold and left there for over 10 minutes.

Misleading Advertising

"I purchased a product as a gift that was described as "in stock" and "ships next business day" 1 week later and the product has not shipped. I contacted customer support via their chat service and was told the product is available online, but not in my area, so it will ship once the product has been located in the warehouse nearest to my delivery address. Ridiculous. Their website says IN STOCK, SHIPS NEXT BUSINESS DAY. Regardless of which warehouse has it, it should have shipped the next business day. Cancelling my order was easy enough, but now I'll need to hunt down the product elsewhere with very little time left to do it. Do not buy anything from these people online."

Petco censors negative reviews

"Petco is selling a product that kills hamsters, and they won't even post my review on their website. It's unconscionable. Please do not buy the Kaytee CritterTrail 2-Level Habitat. The water bottle did not work, and our poor hamster died of dehydration."

Save your dog

"Petco training is terrible, went for a CGC class in Carbondale IL and should have got my money back when after the second week everyone else quit. All I got out of the class was a lighter wallet. Petco must be managed by Bernie Madoffs family, Save your time, dog and money and stay away."

Great Dedicated Service. Decent Prices

" I always get good, personal service and prompt delivery from the online Petco store.
I get very personable service from the neighborhood Bellingham Washington Petco walk in store.
The Petco and surrounding stores had a power outages due to sudden winter wind storm. While some of the surrounding stores closed, Petco employees were finding customers' pet product purchases (say that 3 times FAST), with flashlights. Sue, one the managers, set up a battery operated spotlight. Customers were paying with cash or check. Maddie, a Petco associate, netted fish for me by flash light, including catching some near invisible glass/ghost shrimp in the dark, (Radar or what?), while Jared, another Petco manager, hunted and found the rest of my pet needs with a flashlight.
Kudos and thanks to the Fine Bellingham Petco Crew, including some who were present whose names I didn't mention. I hope the Petco Corporation recognizes these employees for their dedication to both their customers and their company. Thank you.

Do Not Use Repeat Delivery!

"Signed up for repeat delivery. Was promised that dog food would be delivered on a particular date. When the food did not arrive I contacted customer service. HORRIBLE customer service representatives!! They stated it was my fault for not understanding their system. Even though two representatives assured me the food would be delivered (arrive at my house) on a particular date the representatives stated they meant it would be processed on that date. After the order is processed it takes 2-5 days for delivery. I initially communicated with the two representatives via their online chat. When I mentioned that to the customer service representative, her response was "We will address that in training." We will NEVER do business with petco again. We never had any problems with Pet Smart. Unfortunately we were drawn in by petco's false promises."

Petco nothing is perfect anywhere

"No company is perfect, and can not please all customers. My only gripe really is that when you place an order it takes them three days just to get it to the carrier. After it finally gets to the carrier it is usually here in two days. I'm getting old and cranky and waiting for my orders to finally ship makes me grouchy. They are one of the slowest at getting your order to the carrier. Other than that, I love their selection of foods and the fact that I have always gotten what I order. I love the rewards club but I don't like how the food only sometimes qualifies for the $49 free shipping depending on what you buy. I think everything should qualify at a $49 purchase for free shipping."

MANAGERS DON'T CARE ABOUT EMPLOYEES

"The managers dont care about their employees. Petco is possibly the worst place to work for. I am a veteran and decided to help out my local petco saltwater section. I did all I could and turned the whole fish section around. I was employee of the month and never got a bad mark for the year that I worked there. One day a cat tree goes on sale and a bunch of customers buy one. I ask my manager if it's ok to buy one, she said yes. Our GM at the store didn't care about his employees at all, because he received any email stating that employees are not allowed to buy the cat tree, but failed to tell a single other manager or employee. I ended up getting fired because of this and Los prevention is charging me $500 for the cat tree. I'm so glad Petco treats ours veterans like this. "

Poor service

"I recently ordered a dog harness. I double checked shipping address, and even used PayPal which shows shipping address. When I got my confirmation of order - 5 seconds later - it had gone back to old address. I called immediately. I was first told I could do nothing but wait until it was shipped and then change address thru shipping company. After talking with her, she finally came back and said it was canceled, I would get a confirmation in48 hours. Never got. Called again - was told the same thing to call ups and change shipping. I told them ups would charge me a fee, and the UPS site said the sender should do it. She told me to just to to the shipping address and pick it up! It is in another state! She then told me they would refund my money. I would get a confirmation. Well once again no confirmation. I guess I am out $22 and the harness. I have never worked with a company with such poor customer service. I am done with them- and will give my business to the companies that deserve it.

2 day delivery

"I made my first online purchase from Petco as a test. They promised a 2 day delivery, THAT"S A JOKE, I'm how at day 6 and UPS has a delivery scheduled 5 days from how! What a mistake, I will only use Chewy who actually does deliver in 2 days."

Didn't Send My Order

"On November 30th, I took advantage of the Cyber Monday sale. I ordered two packs of small animal bedding, and a dog bed. I triple checked to make sure my order had been placed. Today, I checked again, and they're now saying I've never purchased anything from Petco. From now on, I'll be using Amazon to get any items I need for my animals."
