"Last week I was catching up with some of my former colleagues in the finance industry as well as clients who work in finance when a discussion turned to how much advice the financial services industry needs to serve our nation’s emerging financial services consumer. It’s quite clear the consumer value proposition has completely transformed, and the industry needs to be positioned to deliver. Interestingly, my research suggests that as consumers’ choice of financial services evolves, they are becoming less attuned to trying to outperform others or trying to earn higher compensation than others. The newer economic choice for the consumer is to become a revenue generator, earn more profit through superior financial service solutions. It’s"
"Somali-American researcher Dahir Adan earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from St. Catherine University in the Minneapolis area, according to financial documents. These documents, obtained by the online magazine Salon.com, shed light on his finances, which the federal government would not make public. His parents have reportedly lost their home and their investments in the wake of their son’s killing last month at the St. Cloud shopping mall. The documents, related to his 2013 salary at St. Cloud’s Medico Financial Group, show Adan earned a whopping $19,615, earning the top rank for a “Managing Director” who specialized in “risk management and capital management of investment banking clients.” The documents also show Adan made a monthly salary of $2,500, as well as a percentage of any profits the company made on its investments. The company’s web site says that on its own, it earned a 5.17 percent yield on its investments in 2014. In addition, it says it has earned"
"It’s been reported that the NSA wants to help with “cyber warfare and cyber defense” in the fiscal year 2018 budget. But that’s not the main agenda the agency seems to be on with the potential expansion. According to a statement released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the agency would want to be in the league of commercial outfits such as IBM and Microsoft to earn money. “Such a change would allow NSA to compete more effectively for government contracts, support additional financial transactions that generate data about government finance processes and improve analytic support for research and operations,” read the statement. The NSA is working closely with government entities to facilitate"
"The diagnosis can be made with an abstract notion: Each asset is classified as a target, in accordance with its value, and after this value is reduced a profit can be calculated. The first person to make this diagnosis was economist Friedrich Hayek. Fundamental principles In his book "The Road to Serfdom", Hayek analyzed the most basic institutions of civilization. He was among the first economists to study "capitalism" from the point of view of the classic liberal (Auberon Herbert, Charles Walmesley, George Stigler, etc.) and was among the first to calculate the wealth of a nation using income statements. I remember how in the early 1970s, Michael Bell of the Economics Department of Princeton University proudly bragged that, thanks to the analysis of his students, he knew the net wealth of all of America and could calculate what would be the net wealth of a country. Back then, that could be the difference between countries that earned more on average than those that earned less."
"From a global perspective, the earnings rise of the three big financial institutions – Standard Chartered (SCB) in Singapore, JPMorgan (JPM) in New York and Credit Suisse (CS) in Switzerland – in the first six months of this year pushed out global earnings estimates for the year, according to Bloomberg. In spite of the issues of the foreign exchange market, US earnings are still projected to rise at about 5% this year, despite the financial sector having seen its earnings grow by 10.2% in the first six months of 2016, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. A breakdown of JP Morgan's earnings during the second quarter, which ended on 31 March, shows that on an overall basis, the company earned a net profit of $3.2"
"Pricing: CALGARY – How much you have to pay for a research analyst in the corporate world has never been more clear, with analysts charging as much as 55 per cent more than those in the industry who have less demanding tasks. The gap in compensation is sometimes too wide for business owners and investment managers to justify, according to the Ontario Securities Commission. New rules that took effect in Canada this spring have tightened the definition of what is considered research. Analysts who were previously paid more based on their complex knowledge of an industry may now have to demonstrate they have earned their money. The Corporate Research Council, a Toronto-based consulting firm, calculated that if"
"Research has recently shown that most Americans don’t understand much about their financial situation. Research by the Boston Federal Reserve found that around 70% of adults surveyed didn’t know the difference between debt and credit, and less than 20% were sure of their retirement savings plan and spending priorities. A 2016 Gallup poll revealed that only 53% of adults save consistently for retirement. Those in the top income brackets have the highest financial confidence of all Americans, earning financial confidence on a scale of 100 from 0 to 100, with 0 being the most confident and 100 representing the least confident. The most confident Americans are college graduates, but other findings also show that certain demographic groups have higher financial confidence than others. For example, adults between the ages of 35 and 50 have a financial confidence score of 81. Comparatively, adults between 30 and 35 have a financial confidence score of 68. The likelihood to earn financial"
"For all that has happened to finance in the 20 years since Jack Bogle released the first index fund, much of that upheaval is due to the failures of quantitative investing, and, by extension, finance. Quantitative investing’s growth over the past 15 years or so was based on the argument that individuals and institutions needed to hire quantitative analysts and invest in algorithms to understand financial markets. Any data that was overlooked was effectively lost forever. The systems were never based on any sort of market research. Analysts were building models after models, and the results were supposed to be tested on the spreadsheet-constrained practice of trading. Any guesses that went too far off the grid were

"When did your Finance Career Begin? Did you ever wonder what those finance degrees are like in the real world? How long are your reports, resumes, and proposals actually useful? It’s time to get analytical. Financial Analyst’s Beat Each Other Up, Not Analyze Sometimes, financial analysts don’t put themselves in the shoes of their clients. For instance, when an analyst estimates the value of a startup, they might only consider the cost of being acquired and maybe the company’s debt and eventual profit, but not the full-price costs of raising finance. The true cost to build the business may be longer time in finance jobs with a regular salary or a lean startup with a smaller budget. When a financial analyst beats"
"Imagine a similar scenario, except the market was part of a distant world and we only saw a handful of data points. If the company you invest in is growing their revenue but not their profit, you might get frustrated that there is no actual evidence showing this company is worth a premium. If a study finds that a product on the market isn't making any money but the research indicates that the company is succeeding with the product, there is little incentive to earn money by becoming a part of the business. "Finally, people do the research and then become frustrated when they see the same results repeated by other business owners who have moved on to other trends. The research is usually published in conferences or in books, and the commentators earn a profit by selling or promoting the work. These bloggers aren’t being critical; they are telling people that they believe they can find and earn a decent income with minimal risk. Consumers don’t want to do the research to find answers. They prefer to pay someone to provide that knowledge. It is much easier to decide what to eat for breakfast or to take a multi-step, multi-step financial analysis that tells you if you are earning enough than it is to do the research to decide what kind of fuel you should drive in your car or how to make a better financial analysis. A new wave of ethical bloggers could help create the database of expert information that we need to be able to make better decisions. But first the business of information needs"
""Elon Musk, chief executive of the electric car maker Tesla Motors, has confirmed the introduction of a system for taking data on the driving of motorists as part of his company's effort to use the car market to help create solutions for the delivery of energy, food and other goods. Mr Musk said in a blogpost on Thursday that Tesla had signed a deal with data analytics firm Pentaho for a broad study of the collective driving patterns of consumers, and ""our analysts have begun acquiring data through a consumer database of drive information, customer surveys and potentially other sources"". Mr Musk wrote: ""Once we collect sufficient data, Tesla is in a good position to build hyper-efficient and profitable on-demand transport services that improve the living environment in cities, and generate substantial benefits for individual drivers and society."" While stressing that the program is at a ""pre-beta"" stage and is being run entirely by analysts at his company's headquarters in Palo Alto, California, Mr Musk acknowledged that efforts to identify drivers would ultimately result in tracking individuals' fuel use and earnings. ""Ultimately, we believe these insights will enable us to build more economically efficient and environmentally friendly transportation services that can generate more revenue, earnings and ultimately finance further development of the cars and products of the future,"" Mr Musk wrote. Tesla is also targeting financial and analytical applications of its car batteries, with the stated aim of making them cheaper to produce than a traditional rechargeable battery and to earn a profit for the car company, according to its financial filings. At an analyst conference in March, Mr Musk said a research initiative into electric transportation was the ""bread and butter"" of Tesla's finances. He also said a financial research group was targeting innovations that the carmaker could use to make its car-manufacturing operations more efficient. Mr Musk wrote: """"
"DARPA has announced the latest iteration of the DARPA Robotics Challenge competition. One of the biggest challenges of building robotic systems capable of handling the kinds of tasks required in the military, aviation, and industrial settings is understanding the fundamentals of complex behavior. DARPA is hoping to unlock what they describe as “the human-robot bond.” The competition, known as the Battlefield Human-Robot Interaction Challenge (BRIC), requires robotics teams to solve a real-world task as a human would — analyze complex data and perform actions on command. There will be three divisions, or tiers, of competition that could also end up with a top-tier championship prize. For the second tier, the teams have 60 minutes to complete a pre-set path through a simulated military environment with some minor modifications. For the first tier, teams have 60 minutes to complete a simulated analysis of performance metrics in a given domain — finance, manufacturing, and health and education. If all goes well, all of the teams will move into the next phase of the competition, which will determine the best group of six teams for the first year of the competition, which will run for two years. This means that there are almost two full years left for teams to show what they can do. But DARPA wants to set up a finish line, so they plan to hold an end-of-year championship competition in which all six teams will earn a share of the $2 million prize. Beyond that, DARPA will continue its research into advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning. But it’s more than just the technology. The agency’s ultimate goal is to build human-computer symbiosis between humans and robotic systems. For a computer system to understand complex human behavior and carry out complex tasks with the speed and efficiency required by operations in military, aerospace, and other such environments, it has to have the ability to understand the world and all the data"

"I am a data analyst and am currently working on getting my PhD in Finance and Analytic Research. I earn about $30k. My salary is not bad but it is not as lucrative as it should be. I want to earn more and it is essential for me to understand how much research money I should earn as an analyst. I have spent a lot of time and money in research, in particular in analytics, and feel like I have earned what I should earn. My hypothesis is that I should be able to earn about $100k in just 3 years of work. Research is a continuous loop It takes years of studying and writing before you get a job. I want to be an analytical researcher for the next 3 years and pay off my student loans while also earning more than my"
