"I have a Roku TV but after 2 years, I'm now unable to stream anything from the Roku channel. I just get a black screen. Streaming from the mobile app is broke, too. Only receiving playback error messages. Customer support is nice but still can't get the channel to work after a week. It sounds like they banned my account or blocked my IP address but I can't image for what reason. The Roku channel is free. Just stay away from their products and services. It's garbage."
"Extremely Disappointed!!!!!
My two Roku Ultras were already replaced once before. So this is a story about the replaced Roku.
It started making stretched sound like you hear in 5 fps movie though the movie itself plays fine.
So I contacted customer support.
First of all on 16th of this month I called in the morning I asked for
RMA to be sent right away because I was leaving town
early on 17th and was told that I get email within an hour. NOPE. Didn't
get it. I wanted to ship it before I leave town so by the time I came back
I would have replacement unit.
I called in the morning on 17th and the guy had to give it to me over
the phone.
Then instead of shipping on 16th when I had plenty of time I had to ship
it on 17th on the way to my destination and we lost almost an hour.
By loosing an hour we lost another two hours later because we had to
wait in the van at the loading dock to unload our cargo.
And of course my wife was screaming at me all this time.
So I came back and I see no Roku. At first I thought my house sitter hid
it somewhere and I could not get a hold of her for few days.
So I called yesterday evening on 25th and was waiting on the phone for
an hour and a half to speak to someone with a horrible accent.
This guy did could not even find out what happened and promised to send
me email in 45 minutes. NOPE. No email.
So I called in the morning on 26th and the guy tells me that shipping
carrier did not pick it up yet.
You supposed to send it on the 20th and today is 26th and the carrier
did not pick?
Then supervisor Christine came on line and tells me that she will try to
ship it overnight but can't promise that.
What kind of customer service do you have?
Besides bad quality of you product because my Roku was already replaced
once so this is going to be a second time and I paid twice for shipping
you can's even keep your promises!!!!
Then instead of Christine calling in a few hours I get a call from someone else while in the car saying that someone will contact me in 24 hours.
I call later on because I was promised to be called by Christine but she is nowhere to be found even though she is there. Was told that it is going to be shipped by Fedex but not overnight so I will not have it by the weekend. We supposed to have a party so I can't view videos. I said email me tracking number. He said OK.
Next morning no tracking number. So I call again.
Guy said here is the tracking number but no email.
Extremely Disappointed!!!!! Will never buy Roku again."
"I have been a customer for many years and it was wonderful, but not anymore. They now require you to use a smart card to stream anything accept hulu, but even with a smart card it want stream. Truthfully it isn't worth having any more. I am now looking to replace it."
"Simple and easy to use, Set up is very easy and adding channels is even simpler. SO many to chose from Live, VOD, Paid subscriptions. Its by far the best unit that plays well with everything. When a company builds and app, Roku is the first they build. "
"I have been waiting HOURS to activate my Roku. They Roku system is down and Roku Customer Service has no idea when the system will be back up.
While waiting for the Roku network to come back up, I have been searching for other media streaming devices since I am being forced by Roku to return the device and seek another provider.
Disappointed in Roku and totally recommend that you research streaming devices and pick a provider that is reliable and not unavailable for hours and hours. "
"Horrible customer service with wait times of 30+ min to be eexpected. After you do connect its an Indian who will fight tooth and nail not to replace a broken unit. They even tried to charge me a $20 "warrenty fee". I argued with the Indian man for 20 minutes until he finally decided to send a replacement after making me wait 5 minutes while he was talking to the supervisor aka. Breathing into the phone."
"ROKU is one of the most dangerous products on the market. Unlike I-Tunes where you need to enter your pin every time you are charged, this is not the case with ROKU. You need to enter a credit card in order to activate your membership, you setup a pin for any charges. However unlike I-tunes the pin does not pop up every time to warn you of a possible charge. There are several incidents where I almost entered into a trial period and at the last minute noticed it was a trial period and I would have been charged. I called customer service on ROKU and they could not verify there were no 30 day trial services entered. There is no section of free and charged services. Some are free and some are not. It totally sucked. I returned it. I don't need too be enticed...click here to view this show...oh that will be $30 for the season..then the next one is free...the next one cost money...it was a total hassle. Just get a DVD player that has the option of these additional services to be added to your account if you want them. ROKU is a joke."
"I'd hate to see the misleading "reviews" here to steer people away from an outstanding product and outstanding company that makes it.
It is no accident that Roku steaming boxes dominate sales of Internet to TV video streaming products. If you seek a balanced rating and much better idea of Roku's line of Internet to TV streaming products, examine the hundred's of buyer reviews at Amazon.com and the Netflix wedsite. Netflix highly recommends their streaming customers consider a Roku box.
It's tiny, uses an amazing tiny amount of power and is a vastly superior streaming appliance than any of the video game consoles or any bluray player or very expensive smartTV.
I find customer service and tech support incredibly easy to get ahold of and the staff knows their product! Beware of people dedicated to bad mouthing every top retailer and every top product. Also, be aware that people with something negative to say are vastly more likely to "review" a product or a store.
I was referred to Roku with my streaming questions by a Netfix technical support person who assured me "They are available on Sunday and you will not be on hold for long". She was absolutely correct. I've had a Roku 2 XS and all I can tell you is its a superb product made by a superb company.
I immediately dropped my no service Comcast cable TV service, after I took my Roku through its paces. I wished other devices connected and remained connected to my Internet network as well as the Roku does and I wish I had other remotes as powerful and as instantaneous as the one I got with my Roku 2 XS. If you want a product that "Just Works". This is it.
If these naysayers have you leery of buying direct from the Roku site, consider buying one from Amazon.com"
"I received a defective unit and it took me over an hour to get the issue resolved using their online "live chat". "
"Let me tell you a tale...
I placed an order with Roku on Dec 14th for 2 HD units + cables and memory cards. I received an email confirming the order being processed. On the 15th I attempted to use their online chat and after 10 minutes of waiting closed it. I have sent 2 emails asking for a shipping status update with no responses.
It is Saturday morning and I tracked down the CS phone #. I finally got to a CS rep only to have her ask me if the CC I used had a problem to which I repled no. She then said that my shipping address was flagged as a known reship point and thus the order was on hold. I explained that we use a UPS store box and have for 6 years. After being placed on hold several times for extended periods she said she would send a note to tell shipping it was ok on Monday. That would mean that the items would not show up for X-Mas. I asked to speak to a supervisor.
After being on hold for another 13 minutes the supervisor came on the line and apologized for the long wait. He said he would send a note to the company and ask them to process on Monday. I asked him to expedite the order at their expense so it would arrive before XMas. He could not do that.
Apparently Roku outsources CS. I would guess that the CS is located in the Phillipines. The people were courteous but completely without the ability to do anything other than pass things along. Since I never received any notice and was told an investigation normally takes 3-5 business days I would still have been waiting until mid next week. The supervisor said he would try to communicate with someone at the company online and get back to me later today.
Just for yourself the circumstances and determine whether you want to deal with Roku. This has nothing, at this stage, to do with the product. However, my experience is that as CS goes so the company and products go. I feel compelled to share this experience with social networking sites as well as the BBB and others reseller rating services."
"I tried to purchase a roku player from the website, but the handoff between Paypal and Roku failed and gave me no indication that the order was placed. I received an email confirmation after placing the order a second time. Within twenty minutes, I was chatting with a customer service representative who informed me that it was impossible to cancel the original order, which I never agreed to place; there was no way to contact the shipping warehouse once an order had been sent. Fair enough. Roku provided a fedex shipping label and I sent the duplicate order back to them once I'd received it. The return process took over a month and required a some back and forth with customer servive, but they did eventually refund me
