"I purchased 2x1 gigabytes of pc2-5300 ram form Silicon Assets, the price was great. When I installed it I noticed that one stick had bright blinking colored lights and one stick had dull colored lights. I sent them an e-mail asking what the lights meant and what were they for, but got no answer. A few days later I sent another asking the same thing, no answer. Then yesterday August 19 I sent a third email, then went on to the pricewatch where I had found their site from and left a negative review on pricewatch's seller review site. I mentioned that the price was good just that their communication with the customer was lousy. Lo and behold today I get an email from them and it was rude. I would like to post it here.
"Good day,
You are a lousy customer with rediculous questions that have no
relevance and no patience. How does that make you feel? Probably the
same way your email makes our staff feel. We work hard and believe that
customers should treat their vendors with the same respect that they
want in return. We simply get tired of the juvenile name-calling and
threats and this is an example of how a customer makes an issue over
nothing wasting both our time.
Customers like you seem to think that companies are obligated to put up
with bad behaviours. We are not and have noted your account with this
information. We ban customers who send these types of communications
from further business with our company as well as advising our partners
to beware. Perhaps you can explain to us why you left a negative review
because it took 2 days to get a response about the BONUS LEDs that you
received on your memory at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. Unfortunately we have
more than one customer and we get to each customer just as quickly as we
can research their question.
So lets address your product question. Like all memory vendors, we
purchase products from a variety of sources. Occasionally we get have an
opportinoty to purchase modules which have these LEDs at a special price
and purchase them as a bonus for our customers. In 8 years of business,
this is the first time anyone has ever had an issue with a free upgrade
and written a negative review about it. It is not something we can
guarantee and only have occasionally. We guarantee only the memory
product as the LEDs do not affect functionality and were not advertised
as part of the product.
The product you received was basically Crucial Ballistix at a much lower
price. It was debranded because they do not warranty products not sold
by them. If you are unsatisfied with the product, you should return it
and we will exchange it for non-LED modules. We will be happy to do so
at no additional charge as soon as you return the product you are
unsatisfied with to us."
Never did I say I was dissatisfied with the product, and since my question was about what the lights were, how was I to know they were a bonus? Not very logical of them.
Make up your own minds.

"These guys are bogus. They will ignore you until you threaten to return something, and then the open up with long-winded emails about chargebacks and their rights and threatening to take me to court. TO COURT!?!? Over $20 worth of RAM? Pathetic. I put the stuff back in a trackable envelope, sent it back, and charged back my card. Honeslty, what a bunch of idiots. Their grammer is approcious too.
Look elsewhere. FAR FAR AWAY."
"Ordered laptop RAM on the 16th of December- parcel post 7-14 days- emailed them on 21st as USPS still did not show record- no response- USPS showed package recieved on 23rd- allowed for holidays- never got the parts- USPS status never changed- never replied to most emails- they sent 1 automated reply about shipping times etc., then mid Jan after I told them to cancel the order they emailed saying it was past the 30 days period. Then I looked at the Better Business Beaurau site of south Florida and saw they had an F rating and similar customer experiences and knew I had made a mistake. I am an IT and this is thankfully the exception but regardless I charged back my CC today. Terrible way to run a business."
"In November, I ordered a stick of PC2-5300 notebook ram from Silicon Assets. Everything went fine, except that I had never changed parts i a laptop and wasn't aware that the system had two 512MB sticks in it already. Since I wanted to jump to 2GB, I was going to have to buy another stick. Since my last experience was transparent, I decided to go back to where I had bought the last...and that's where the nightare begins.
I came home from out of town on a Sunday to find that my package had been delivered, only inside was desktop ram, not notebook ram. I wrote the sales@ siliconassets.com address on the front page explaining what had happened and got no response. It was two days before Christmas, so I rode it out for a while, thinking they might be busy. I wrote again on the 30th, again to no response.
After another week, I dug around on the site and found their supposed customer service address. I wrote them, explaining what happened yet again, and got the following response:
-----
Mr. Price,
We apologize that you have not recieved the correct item. We will gladly fix the problem as exactly as agreed by exchanging it for you as soon as the incorrect product is returned to us. The process as stated on our website is to complete the RMA process. This is the process every customer must complete to exchange a product. You can begin the process at this link:

Now, looking at their terms, you can see that there's no provision for misshipped items. It only lists policies for returns and exchanges. It states that returners will pay shipping out of pocket. It proclaims that they'll take shipping out of refunds, even if the item was shipped with "free shipping." It announces a 15% restocking fee for any returns.
I, as any reasonable person would, saw no reason for those things to apply to me. It's not as though I ordered something and decided I didn't like it. I had never received what I ordered in the first place, and I was not going to end up paying $20 or more for a $13 stick of ram because they messed up. So I wrote back asking about this. Nautrally, I got no response. Ten days later, I wrote back asking if they had any intention of answering my questions and proclaiming my disgust at the quality of service I had received. The response I got, over 24 hours later, was the exact same message I posted above. I replied to this message with each question detailed, and asked for a simple confirmation that their policies for exchanges wouldn't apply for their mistake. After three more days, I sent the another message expressing my disbelief at how terrible they were.
At that point, I went to pricewatch to leave them feedback, then went to work. Upon my arrival home, I found a 12 paragraph email from Silicon Assets explaining to me how everything was my fault and deriding me for "insulting" them (The only real insults I made was suggesting they couldn't read English since they replied to my email addressing exactly zero things I mentioned, and calling them incompetent because...well, it's true), claiming I was making false statements, etc. I guess they had been saving up all that literary genius over a month and had to get it all out in one shot.
The best part was looking at the reviews on Pricewatch and seeing that they had posted a fake review that went out of its way to try to be the opposite of my review in an amusingly bold fashion.

Look for 1/16/2009 for the info. It's so transparent what they did that it's actually funny.
I wonder what percentage of the positive reviews here are fake ones planted to keep their rating up. I wish I had seen this place first before I ordered. This clearly is a better representation of the company's quality."
"BEWARE. After posting negative feedback buyer sent a $45 fraudulant invoice and fraudulant order
Code Item Qty Price Total
CHB-NSF Chargeback / Non Sufficient Funds Fee
1 $45.00
This place is a scam. They turned off their phones and make their own rules. I expressed concern for being sent a useless product that did not match description. I was ignored for 9 days and then given an RMA# after the product had already been returned, only to be notified that they had no intentions of granting a refund. "
"I ordered some RAM on 10/2/08 Six days later I get an email staing that my order has shipped. Here I am October 14th and I still have recieved my RAM that I bought with stadard 5-7 day shipping. When I complained about it they shut down my customer account. Definitley never buying from Silicon Assets again."
"Ordered about $300 worth of ram on 1 Oct 08. Order showed as processing. Sent numerous e-mails, faxes and phone calls and did not receive a response until 13 Oct 08 because a chargeback was threatened. At this time I received an e-mail saying my money was refunded and my order was canceled because of this threat. Everything you read on the negative reviews of this seller is true. They will likely post my name in a comment about this review in an attempt to bully future reviewers into not leaving negative reviews. I recommend everyone avoids this seller as they are very unprofessional. Inexcusable conduct. Seriously consider the amount of negative reviews this company has before doing business with them and pay attention to the fact that they have an excuse for every negative review. They are very aware of their poor customer service."
"Ordered some cheap DDR2 PC2-5300 memory from them. Shipping was quick, it works with my Core2 Duo system. Tested with Memtest-86 v3.2."
"Order 8/18/08 with standard shipping got it 08/22/08. Fast shipping. The crucial compatible 1GB PC2700 is working great. I'll be back."
"I ordered some desktop memory cards to upgrade my sister's PC and nephews PC. They arrived in a few days. Installed them and they work great!!! "
"As arrogant as it may seem, this company posted my full name on price watch dot com in response to my negative review. Apparently, they do not care about their customers privacy at all. I am still a bit shocked, but apparently this type of thing is a pattern with this company.
Imagine if all retailers used these bullying tactics on their customers. If they just would rectify this situation and agree to finally ship the parts I ordered, I would agree to remove/edit my comments.
I ordered RAM modules from them, and they shipped me the incorrect type. They however refuse to acknowledge this mistake they made, e.g. the parts on my invoice are not the same as the parts I recieved. I instead must pay to re-stock the wrong parts they sent me, as well as the shipping fees. All I asked is that they rma at their expense since they have sent me the wrong part, I don't even want a refund, I just want the correct part.
Any attempt I have made to reason with them has been met with indifference and arrogance.
Apparently they have a new policy as of fairly recently: They only respond to emails now, and have shut off their phones to their 'customers' (gee, I wonder why).
Beware of this company!!!"
