"Do not believe their shipping estimates!
I ordered a Vaio laptop online from SonyStyle, it was meant as a present for my wife. The shipping estimate they gave me gave when I placed the order was one week before the date when I needed the laptop, so I figured that would be fine.
However, that estimated shipping date went by without any shipping notification and I started to worry. I called their customer service (located in Asia, of course) and guess my surprise when they told me that the shipping date I was given was from their factory in Asia! From there it would have to travel to the States, clear Customs, get to the Sony warehouse, and from there it would ship to me.
This is the third and last laptop I order from them and never had a problem before.
Dec. 14th update: OK, here is what happened: apparently they now ship via FedEx directly from the Chinese manufacturer to the end customer. The reason they don't give a delivery estimate is that they don't know how long it will take for the package to clear U.S. Customs. There is nothing really wrong with that except that this should be clearly stated on their site.
Anyway, a month after I placed my order I received a full refund (they did not agree to a refund until I opened a dispute through PayPal)."
"I tried to order a remote control on the web site but it would not accept any of my credits, even though their was nothing wrong with them. I finally called and spoke with customer service who took my order and verified that it would be shipped within 3-5 days. When i did not receive a shipping notification by Friday the 1st, i called to check on my order. The person i spoke with told me they just put in a new system andhe could not tell if it was processed but it should be by Monday the 1st. So today I looked and no confirmation e-mail so i call again and was told that the order was in process. i asked about expedited shipping and they told they could not do that. I asked when my order would be shipped, he could not tell me that either. At this point I cancelled my order and will never do business with this company again or buy another Sony product."
"I ordered a custom made Sony VAIO on SonyStlye.com on September 23rd, 2010. I received the order before the estimated ship date and I was happy about that. My happiness was short lived; as soon as I plugged the laptop in I found out that it was defective, the touchpad and keyboard did not work.
After, talking with Sony on the phone for over two hours, I decided to return the laptop and Sony Style, told me I would have a replacement in 7days. It is now November 1st and I still don't have my laptop. Sony Style tells me that they don't know when I will get my computer because they don't have the "components" in Japan. ????? They should at least be able to tell me 1 month, 2 months or 6 months, but they are incompetent and unprofessional.
DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH SONY STYLE!!!"
"Please dont buy any refurbished products from sonystyle. They will give us estimated shipdate and they never deliver on time. I have been spending last three days with customer care and there is no proper reply from them that when my order is going to ship.
In the website it is still showing the old date as ship date.
I never recommend buying products from SONYSTYLE."
"I have ordered a mp3 player (16 GB) from Sony Style... It is shipped by FedEx. I got this within a week.. and the product is simply great!! A stylish mp3 player. Even it is marked as refurbished, the performance is simply great!!! Hats off Sony Style!!"
"Never will I order from Sony Style again! I placed this order for a PS3 Bundle which included 2 free games on 11/30/2009. I received my order without the games. I contacted customer service and was told I should have received the games and that they were on back order. They offered me a 20% discount on my next order instead. I told them I wanted the 2 free games and not the 20% discount. We'll here it is July 2010 and no games. They keep offering me the 20% offer!Like I would order from them again! I can't believe they won't uphold their original offer. Stay away from Sony Style!"
"I order a LCD TV KDL-40Z5100 refurbished from sony style. After 3days later emailed me saying your order has canceled. I called to customer care and conformed they said out of stock. Next day I called to supervisor and asked for any equivalent TV in that range. he suggested a TV and said 20% discount in your case on specified models which again additional $500 to $600 from my pocket, Those TV's we can get it lot cheaper from other branded vendors.
After 2day I saw the old deal advertising...again.
I called customer sales support and asked about stock she said its available. If they really have stock then send my product why to cancel order..?
if they don't have stock why to advertise again and again?
They also offered and open sony style credit card now its useless. If I close it, it hits my credit history. waste of time ordering through sonysyle.
Bottom line is they are doing some tricky business which attract customer but they will loose Trust. Branded company doing cheap tricks.
Here is the letter:
Valued Sony Style Customer,
We regret to inform you that we have oversold the 40” TV (KDL-40Z5100) you purchased from us. This close out product was extremely popular and we sold out more than we planned over the last couple of days. We have tried our hardest to find more TV’s to honor your order but, they are truly gone and we don’t plan on getting more.
Within the next 24 hours, you will receive another cancellation notice which will confirm that your order has been removed from our inventory system. This is also an indication that Sony Style does not have any intention to charge your cancelled order and you may shop for another TV.
Again, we are very sorry for this mistake. Thank you for shopping Sony Style!

"I placed this order on Saturday 15th 2010, with an estimated ship of 17th May. On 19th i logged in to check my order status, but it was still processing. I then called the customer careless department and NOBODY seemed to know whats was going on and that the will email the warehouse. The following day i did not receive the email update from their warehouse. I called again and got hold of Mellissa who assured me that my order is actually ready to ship and that i will receive a confirmation email within 48hrs. I called back after 4hrs and another customer careless rep, told me they havent received the update from their warehouse. I told her Mellissa told me my order was ready to ship, she rudely answered me she doesnt know who Mellissa is and she doesnt have more information but i have to wait for response from their warehouse. I kindly asked her whether i can talk with a manager, she told me they are in a meeting.I have made numerous calls, and everytime i get a different answer. The Tv is in stock, I paid for it, what's happening?? I am really frustrated. To cut the story short, the customer service at sony style are useless and lie to customers. TEN DAYS down the line and my order is still Processing, they promise to email me, nobody does. I cannot cancel my order because it has already processed,I would not recommend anyone to shop from this company. Am am still waiting for answers and i dont expect any,I wish i had the reviews."
"My PS3 60GB died after 3 years, so was looking for a replacement. Was reading a new model that came out the SCH2101A that has both chips shrink down and redone cooling. Seemed like a great one to replace with, saw some pictures of ones already spotted in stores. Couldn't locate any nearby so decided to call Sony and order from them for the first time. I normally like their products and have great durability. Looking on the website they list their model not as others with SCH but with PS398017. Unable to determine from the information provided i decided to call and find the right one. Talking with a overseas rep, during the conversation I asked for clarification 20 times that it was the right SCH model number and was told yes the entire time. So i placed the order 5/6/10 and upon receiving the item 5/13/10 found it it was the previous model. Upon calling the customer service that day was given the option of a 10% discount, not even a refund or at least try to get me the right model. Was shot around between customer service and the sales department that they don't know the model numbers and only ships from the warehouse. Both times were told the other department would have access to that. Was very applaud that they didn't even know of the new model that their company released and couldn't even help me. It wasn't until I got a customer service manager that was from the US that he didn't know but instantly searched the information and found out. I cannot understand how I was lied to 20 times and nothing was done to resolve the issue. I did get free return shipping but after trying to find out why I was told I was lied to. I like what Sony makes but cannot believe their own company doesn't know what products they sale or release. This was my first purchase directly from the company and makes me think twice now about them. I have worked retail and call centers myself, cannot believe they couldn't even try to replace mine with the right model. If i worked for the any company this type of mistake would be taken very seriously and tried to get resolved in a right matter. At the moment I would not go back to ordering from them. "
"Ordered a custom built e series on the 27Apr10. Said estimated ship date of 8 - 15May10. got to the 19May, nothing at all, no emails, no laptop. Phoned up Sony after noticing that i3 processors had appeared out of stock for over a week, to be told I will have my laptop by the 27May. Then had an email from a Cust Serv rep who said should be with me by 31May. then another email came through the next day saying laptop had just been ordered, with ship date of 24-29May.
Unbelievably bad service from a top brand. Put your money into a company that values it customers. Sony is shambolic."
"Ordered a new Vaio Z1190 on 4/17. During the order, it gave me an estimated shipping date of 4/27. Once ordered, an email followed with that shipping date, however the website estimated shipping date was set to 4/17. The next day it changed to 4/27, then to 4/20. The laptop shipped on 4/20. The email and web page provided a tracking code BUT did not state who the shipper was. After some online research, I figured out the shipper was FedEx. The laptop arrived on Saturday 4/24, was exactly as ordered. Overall, the order went more smoothly then I expected given all of the negative reviews. "
"Never ever order from SonyStyle.
I ordered on 3/29/10 and estimated ship date is April-20 and almost every day I checked the online status as well as called customer service to verify my order, and everytime my order status is same. Even on April 21 early in the morning also, its ready to be shipped as per customer service representative. After a few minutes, when I check on-line order status, Its been cancelled (big blank on my facw). If thats the case why its bluffing me all these 20 days when I call customer service and online information.
Bottom line:
Customer Service don't have insider view of order, production, sales, shipping info.
So be aware, if you are waiting on them, never ever get a product, which you might be eagerly waiting for your work/productivity."
"DON'T ORDER FROM SONY!
I ordered my Laptop for graduation on the 28th of febraury, it said "Estimated ship date 3/23/10" And my dad said that was just the maximum ship date they showed so they wouldn't have any dissapointed customers in case of an emergency. I ordered from sony because the laptop was VERY Cute and very sheek and nice looking. My dad told me he had heard some scary things about sony but I ignored him and ordered anyways.
So, today, I went online. If I ordered THE EXACT same laptop today, (13 days after my order) It says, "Estimated ship date 3/23/10"
Not only do they not give ANY reason for this delay, (No backorder, No strikes that I can tell or whatever) BUT I called today to talk to someone and just ask why it's taking so long, and the message goes:
"Thank you for calling sony. Our office is closed right now. Please call at a later time so we may help you" AND THEN DOESN'T GIVE ME A TIME TO CALL BACK! No hours of operation or ANYTHING! Don't most people have 24 hour customer service anyways??
Yes... I'm really dissapointed... and after reading reviews on here I'm scared of dealing with them once the laptop DOES get here....
DON'T ORDER FROM SONY!!! NO MATTER HOW NICE THEIR STUFF LOOKS!!!! Wolf in sheeps clothing -.-;"
"I ordered a refurbished under-cabinet clock/radio unit. After spending about couple of hours installing the unit, I realized to my dismay that the CD tray did not work. They shipped out an order without even testing the basic functionality of the unit. Idiots.
Now the painful return process. First, I emailed customer service asking specifically about how to do an exchange. I got a canned response about how to return the item, and nothing about an exchange. Fine, I'll return the unit, but first they force you to call tech support to discuss the matter with an expert. It was a waste of 15 minutes of my lunch time at work, but whatever. With the "event ID" that I got from tech support, I was told I would get a prepaid Fedex label. After waiting a day, I didn't get one, so I check my order online, and there it instructed me to print out a label and take it to a shipping carrier. Ok, so I took the package and the label to Fedex, and of course, they said it's not a prepaid label for Fedex and I should take it to UPS. Ok, so I took the package and the label to UPS, and of course, they said it's not their prepaid label. Perfect, so I emailed customer service again, and finally I got a pre-paid label to send back the unit.
In sum, I wasted about SIX hours installing then returning the unit. I was also frustrated the whole time dealing with customer service. I got the feeling they intentionally make it as painful as possible for their customers to return items. I might as well shop at a fly-by-night operation. "
"Everything you say about the return process is true. I got an RMA and shipped an unopened lamp back and three weeks later the matter was still 'in process.' A call and escalation to the next level got me an email saying the credit had been processed. Unfortunately, there is more than a subtle difference between processed and received. The best they could say today is that they are sorry that it takes so long, but it's in the queue. Someone wrote previously that it is all a scam to keep the money as long as possible, and sadly, it seems to be true. If this is the only way to obtain a product or part, better to avoid Sony than to go through nonsense like this."
