"I received the following offer after our transaction was complete:

"Our records indicate that you recently made a purchase with our store, and as a total commitment to quality, I would like to offer you a free gift just for providing your valuable feedback on your experience with our store."

It occurred to me that without specifing in advance what the "free gift" is, one is left with the impression: bad review - bad gift, good review good gift. In essence it looks like they might be purchasing good reviews thereby corrupting the integrity of the reviews.

My next thought was - how long has this been going on? Maybe their ratings are meaningless?

I normally will write a review - especially if asked nicely. But even if this company is innocent of what this looks like, I don't think this "undisclosed free gift" exchange for a review is ultimately a good idea. It calls their good reviews into question.

But to be fair, here's the review I would have written without the gift:

"I placed an order for two items. One turned out to be out of stock. They immediately told me they were holding the one and waiting a few days for the arrival of the second. Apparently it wasn't in their shipment, since they then changed this to canceling the second and shipping just the one they had. I was okay with all of it as they kept me informed, never charged me until they had determined what they were going to ship and that arrived promptly and safely. I would do business with them again. ""
