"Swanson has gone from 5 Stars to 3 Stars now down to 2 STARS!
Swanson used to be 5 Stars for well over a decade for me. However I'm not happy with changes and issues I'm guessing relate to the sale to investors a couple years ago.
I've spent more than $1,000 in a single month before, and order in the $hundreds at a time regularly, so I'm a pretty good customer. However, I'm now ordering some products from Amazon as well as other nutrition sites.
Here are a few of my issues...
- don't mislead consumers stating "up to 40% off" (e.g. right now) when in reality it's only 15% off Swanson's normal price. They rarely if ever charge MSRP, and certainly not on any of the countless individual products I've ordered. To a
regular customer and experienced business person like me it's simply false advertising no matter how they will try to rationalize it.
Further, Swanson does periodically give 10, 15, 20, and once in a great while 25% off their normal prices, and that's accurate advertising.
- more and more they are only selling products with fewer tablets/capsules causing me to order more often at higher margins. Finally fed up, I've been finding those same products in much larger bottles at much lower prices per unit.
- too often I see "coming soon" for months on end. Yet many times I find that same product avaliable elsewhere. Either get the product withon a reasonable time frame, or remove the misleading promise.
- I don't want call centers in foreign countries. I prefer the great employees I've dealt with in North Dakota. It's nothing negative about any other country, rather it's supporting U.S. jobs.
Further, as the owner of many businesses over the last 25 years, and prior working closely with the higheat levels of Fortune 500 companies, just because someone in a foreign country speaks English doesn't mean they understand the context of the words and phrases nor the vernacular.
I have overseen and employed people from many nations, and some jobs can be done by English as a 2nd language people from foreign nations without issue. However, my recent experience discussing vitamins and ordering issues with a Swanson foreign call center was a disaster. Even when I requested to speak with a manager or above. And btw, I employ two people from that nation right now, however they both understand all the communication nuances to deal with my company's nearly all American customers. So this is not any form of discrimination.
There you have the issues off the top of my head. Though odds are I likely missed some things.

Just saw the response from Swanson and was so disappointed I lowered my rating down from 3 Stars to 2 Stars. In case Swanson reads this - I HAVE contacted customer service about the issues described multiple times in recent months. NO RESPONSE OR CHANGES WHATSOEVER!
The Swanson person who responded herein is simply employing the standard B.S. corporate boiler plate jargon. So now I'm going to order even more often from competitors...

"I bought some items that were competitively priced and I also had a 10% discount code. When I entered my discount code, the prices on three of my items increased right then and there in my cart. However, I went ahead with my transaction.
I don't know how (and I just now discovered this after receiving my order), but they also managed to take away my 10% discount too. So not only did I not get credit for my 10% discount code, but they upped the subtotal of my order for even trying to use it.
And I would like to add that their shipping is very slow.

"Prices constantly go up, service lower down!
Their telephone courtesy and complimentary shipping falls half way in between the crack only for the first order. After which, they make you buy the extras from additional supplements to upgrade in shipping charges.
The prices they publish differ from the ones they read out from script! Therefore, you have to wait until the shipment comes through the mail slot to see the actual price that they choose to charge you.
Their website is not user friendly and once you have difficulty signing in, you will no longer be able to track down your shipping details. When you call in or email them to find out, they share the same issues of not having any record of your orders.
For repeated customers, they exceed the limit of the new low and can straight out demand that you give in into a spelling bee contest of spelling out alphabet by alphabet your personal information to them. After which, they make it a point to make you pay for daring to call them back after the thirty day refund after purchase availability.

"I tried and tried for years because they have good prices and product selection, but now I feel I must warn others away from Swansons. EVERY single time I've tried to place an order with them for years now, it has been a nightmare and a waste of a huge amount of my time.
What should be a simple online interaction takes literally hours. Over the course of days.
My most recent experience = They cancelled my first order because my billing address did not match my shipping address, and claim they sent me an email informing me, but I received nothing.
They cancelled the second order a week later, also without informing me. The chat service (LiveHelpNow) says "the order was flagged for suspected fraud and cancelled."
I have had problems with this company in the past, too. Their online interface is simply too dinosaur-era to trust. Do not do business with them.
If you MUST do business with them (they DO have good prices and selection), CALL them, do NOT order online.

"I am a Swanson Vitamins customer for years and as of the last year I noticed that they keep increasing prices by 10-20% only to give you a special rebate of 10-20% on already inflated prices. It's like going to a store that has a 50% off sale only to discover that the prices have been bumped up by 50%. Example: the organic coffee used to be $11.50 and now it is $13.09 with a 15% discount!!!!!!!! At this rate I will not be shopping here and I will take my business to another supplement outlet like PipingRock who is a lot cheaper especially with there sales. For the Swanson management I advise to keep prices the same or decrease a bit so that you can stay competitive and not upset your customers. When a customer pays $5.00 for an item and reorders only to find out the price increased to $5.30 -- guess what? Customer GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"This the first order from Swanson. Ordered Frontier Co-op branded ground turmeric. They had the best price and shipping was $.99 for orders over $25. Shipping took 11 days from date of order. This seemed reasonable give it was the Christmas season. I would definitely order again based on this experience."
"Placed order 12/26/2027. My order included a number of items one of which was backordered. Seventeen days later I called to check on (01/12/2018). They said it had just shipped two days ago, (12-10-2018). They said it was shipped FedEx smart post and should be delivered six days from now on 01-18-2018, (In the past when I've received items through FedEx smartpost, (During a non peak period), delivery took considerably longer than they were advertising).
To me that's just too long. If you want to receive your products during your life time, you may want to upgrade shipping or pick a different store."

"Their discounts are fraudulent and fake They triple their price and put aside 70% off.... When you check the price for the same product elsewhere it's similar to the regular price elsewhere.
They don't care if they lost your parcels and will ask you to wait forever ( I've sometimes been told to wait 3-4 weeks! past the normal delivery date )before declaring a parcel lost and reshipping the goods if their agents decide to do so . They never process the returns unless you send 50 emails and threaten them ... and even when they process them they will always forget to refund some articles..... however they cash in very fast. They will ship products that will expire in less than 3 months and when you inquire why , they will tell you that they have the right to do so! and that you are the problem. Their customer care agents are sometimes polite but not helpful... 90% of the time they send you generic responses where you can clearly see that they don't care at all about customers ... their mandate is to cash in ! , not to help you out with any issues.
Or you order the large size but they charge you for the regular and even if you send pics to prove your point, they will not address the problem, because they are perfect and never make mistakes.. you are always considered as a potential fraudster ... this is how the agents are trained .....
Their advertisement is also questionnable and if you register for receiving their specials notifications , every day is the best sale of the year with their best savings and you should be giving all your cash to them EVERY DAY!!!!!!......

"I have been purchasing from Swanson Health Products for at least 10 years. I find their prices are good and they have a large variety of products in various strengths and sizes. As I am writing this, standard shipping in the US is $4.99, but they often have offers of free shipping if you purchase over a certain amount. I have never had any problems with orders from Swanson. Best of all, their manufacturing is in compliance with NSF International (http://www.nsf.org/about-nsf). I would recommend giving them a try! "
"Swanson has sunk to the new low. I had to push to give it a 2 rating I hope someone gets to read this before it is taken down with their app that destroys bad reviews. I ordered vitamins 2 separate shipments. They put the old address not used in over 4 years. I got the emaill product delivered. I looked . no product. I informed swanson they sent to an old old address. they immediately stated it was not their fault. they took the address given by the paypal. I use paypal frequently and have never had anything shipped to other address except where living. Then they proceded to inform me for me to go find the boxes or get the house to send back the packages. In other words, we messed up but you need to fix our mess up and forget you paid shipping charges and go find the boxes.. Beware when ordering from this company."
