Shipped a loose-leaf textbook still in its original packaging with its supplementary materials.
Got a notification it wouldn't be accepted as it has no value. Mind you the exact book they are quoting $70.00 for on their website, and actually is up from 67$ when I sent it in, so it clearly is being accepted and is seen to have value.
Didn't see any reason why it wouldn't be accepted and they are telling me it has no value. It met every criteria required, and I triple checked their policies after receiving the notification. The book was meeting all requirements.
Got the book back thankfully, and it had been opened and torn out of the plastic. Both the book and the online code card were opened from the packaging they were in. Due to it being a loose-leaf book, they only will accept it if it's in the original manufacturer packaging. The book was in original packaging when I sent it in and I have photos before I sent, but wasn't when it returned to me.
Now I understand why they can't accept it and they deem it to have no value. One of their employees decided to open it, I assume mistakenly, and now I have to eat the cost of a $200 book that has 0 resale value as nobody wants a loose-leaf book that has been opened, which is reasonable. What's unreasonable on their part is opening it, telling me they can't accept it for NO reasons, and then giving me the run-around with customer support. They have denied they opened it, said they value and decide on accepting books based on the condition they receive them in, and won't acknowledge that they are currently quoting $70.00 for the exact book. I asked multiple times why are they quoting $70.00 for it, but they do not want to answer because they know when they do, this points in the direction of they made a mistake. They WILL NOT own up to making a mistake. Support acts like they don't understand what I'm saying, and has very weird non-sensical responses to my inquiries. I made it very clear what the issue is, what happened, and asked why. I got no acknowledgement of the problem, got cookie-cutter responses, and got denial of opening the book deeming it useless and basically valueless now. The last response was that they check the ISBN on the inside of the covers of books. Okay, that makes sense; but since the inside cover does confirm the book is indeed a genuine copy and the same ISBN that they quote $70.00 for, why was it not accepted? Oh, because they opened it as a mistake. These book-buyback companies don't open loose-leaf books when they are in the original manufacturer packaging, as I have reached out to 6 other companies asking about their practice for loose-leaf books, and this company as-well under a pseudonym and new email. They lie to you to make you feel better. That leaves one reason why it was denied, destroyed, and returned with no customer support: They made a mistake and want me to bear the brunt and eat the cost. They don't care if you are out hundreds of dollars, as-long as they pretend they are doing their job and have plausible deniability of any issues they caused. Great business practice.
DO NOT SEND THEM BRAND-NEW BOOKS. THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THEY WILL DENY IT, THEN REFER YOU TO THEIR POLICIES OF NOT ACCEPTING CERTAIN BOOKS THAT ARE NOT IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING, AND NOT HELP YOU WITH SUPPORT OR PROVIDE ANY TYPE OF REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE OF THEIR MISTAKES. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT YOUR ISSUES ARE OR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO YOU."
