"DO NOT SEND YOUR CLOTHES TO THREDUP.COM!! You will get scammed just like I did. I bought an item using a free $10 credit, got my item and they sent me a huge thredup bag and told me to stuff it full and send it back and they'll pay me top dollar for my clothes, WRONG! I didn't even get paid for the items I SENT! They sold me someone else crap, clothes I wouldn't dress my dog in and damn sure wouldn't put on my kids. Not even close to the sizes or quality I sent them. I pretty much just gave them clothes from the gap, ralph lauren, blueberri boulevard, polo, tons of great clothes in close to like new condition. I carefully looked over all the clothes to make sure there were no stains, rips or holes and to make sure all the brands were what they accepted. The bag was so stuffed, I had to seal it with duct tape! They paid me $9 for crap clothes that I did not send them. Boy do I wish I had read these reviews before being scammed by these people! If you use the site, make sure you just use it to get the free $10 credit and then run!! But whatever you do, do not send these people your clothes! I have a feeling they just take whatever they like and then pay you for the crap they didn't want to take home and that's how they make a quick buck. I've called them several times (they only have a message system you don't ever actually speak to anyone, the phone doesn't even ring when you call it goes straight to a recorder) emailed them and left comments on their facebook wall. So all in all, if you're looking to sell your clothes, put in the extra effort and take them to an actual resale shop. At least the clothes they don't accept, they'll return them to you rather than take them home for themselves. Never again will I ever send these people my kid's nice name brand clothes. It seems the only thing they actually pay out for is crap clothes! They keep all the good stuff for themselves. "
"STAY AWAY! I decided to try the company out after reading an article about them on a blog. I found a shirt for $5 which I thought was a good price. However, they charged $7 for shipping. I ended up buying the shirt and it said it would ship in 3-5 days and it ended up taking 3 weeks. Then I get something in my mailbox to pick up something from my post office. It turns out they did not write a return address or pay for any postage. So I had to pay $7 shipping to the company and an additional $2.80 to take it out of the post office because they didn't pay shipping! I get an email from customer service saying the will CREDIT my account $2.80. I paid cash to get it from the post office and want cash back. I do not want a credit to pay $7 shipping again and go through all of this again. I would not recommend this company and would recommend ebay instead."
"Alright thredup here it goes!!! I am writing this review after dealing with and emailing thredup for about 2wks. I order a formal Oleg Cassini from the site for an upcoming event. AFTER my purchase I was informed in the receipt that my 3-5 days order may take 3wks!! So I immediately emailed them informing them that if the dress would not be here well before the date I didn't want it because I would have to do alterations. Emails went back and forth with little actual info. I did finally manage to get one person to say they looked and the order had already been shipped out. That was sept 8. Pacified by this i waited for its arrival or for the status on the site to change to "shipped" nothing. So I sent another email no response. Then yesterday I sent yet another. Today I get and email with a tracking number and a date of sept 20th for delivery!! So I check out the tracking code on ups. Guess what my order didn't hip until the 13th. Shame on you thredup for lying!! Today I am going out to find a dress for my daughter to wear. So I am spending the money for another dress ontop of what I would have already paid. Oh and the reason for the delay, they are a new company! I gave them every chance to tell me that it would not be here it time and they didn't. If they would have told me before the purchase instead of after I never would have purchased it."
"I only wish that I had seen these reviews! I want to first state that I have one child, she is the youngest of my entire extended family and she has too many clothes! I sent them well over 125 items in 2 separate bags and received credit for 34. Many never worn, some worn once to church only, none more than 3-4 times by a very neat little girl. I estimate the full retail was over $2500, I received $69. There were items from boutiques one outfit had tags and was over $95 dollars they only paid me for the shirt $5, what happened to the pants?.The rejected countless items Danasko $70 shoes worn once, I was paid $0. A bikini never worn with tags was $65.00 I was paid 0. SO many items totally unaccounted for, from Gap, private boutiques and Gymboree. A pantsuit with tunic never worn I got zero for. Do they resale the clothes they do not pay you for elsewhere?and pocket the money ? They kept a few of the cheaper blah items, but many high tickets items were not paid for. Stay away, resale locally, where you have more control and get to know staff, or donate to charity, you will better off by far...if you want convenience many charities will even pick up for free at your home! Nothing more convenient than that, feels so much better than getting a very bad deal."
"Tred Up Is a Scam. They Promised me a $10 credit for the delay in processing my bag,and then they decidided to take the $10 credit away. Also they only gave me $11 for a brand New with tag Ed Hardy jacket that I paid way over $150.00 for. In my opinion Tred Up is a rip off and the owner Mr. reinheit is too busy to return my email. He had Samatha return my email that was intended for the owner."
"I am an experienced consignor, having prepped clothing for many strict consignment sales. So I know what to look for in choosing clothing to sell. I sent a bag of over 30 good saleable items to this company. Several NWT items, many barely worn, all bought new within the past 2 years. They paid me for FIVE ITEMS. Less than $10!! What a scam!! I can't even find out what was so wrong with the other 25+ items that they couldn't be sold. Heck, most of them were in better condition than the stuff Thredup sold me last month!! I will not be sending them anything ever again. At least if I send them to Goodwill I can get a tax write-off.
ALSO...check out their BBB rating...a big fat "F"! http://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/business-reviews/general-merchandise-retail/thredup-in-san-francisco-ca-381201"
"I learned about ThredUp through the Today Show spot a last spring and decided to try it. I sent about 20 pieces of boys clothes size 4-6. All were in excellent shape, no stains, etc. and from relatively upscale stores: Lands End, Boden, H&M kids, Gap and Old Navy, and even a pair of kids Camper shoes that were worn only a few times. I received an e-mail from ThredUp stating that none of the items were resellable. I could have received about $100 for the lot on Craigslist, but I'm a busy working mom, so ThredUp seemed to be a good option, at least in theory.
I think ThredUp is a scam. I have no recourse for the 20 items that I sent and they could be selling them without my knowledge."
"Ditto on the review below. I sent in top quality items, all hand inspected by me to make sure they met the strict standards. After waiting 6 weeks for processing, I finally received my payout. ThredUp arbitrarily only paid me for about 1/2 of the items that I sent in. In one case, there were two shirts that were exactly the same except for the color. They were both in new condition. ThredUp found that one of them was "acceptable" and one of them was not. No reason and no explanation. And, there is no recourse. Makes me sick that I got paid nothing for some of my daughter's cutest and most valuable items. I could have made a lot of money selling these on my own. I wonder if the people processing the clothing are simply going through and taking what they want for themselves? I have cashed out my ThredUp account and will not be going back."
"anyone interested in using this service to "sell" items should proceed with caution. I was excited to send in my items, after seeing a glowing segment on the Today show. I sent in a bag STUFFED with top-quality items--some NEW WITH TAGS-- and only half of my items were accepted. I carefully scrutinized my items, as their website indicates they are very picky. I couldn't have been more stunned to learn that my bag earned me $23. Please see the email exchange below, beginning from the bottom:

Samantha,
This is completely unacceptable, and I feel utterly blindsided and duped.
ALL of the items I sent in were of the top-most quality, and in EXCELLENT condition.
Had I known you were NOT going to take these items, I would have resold on my own. Your site BEGS for top-shelf items (which makes me question why I see Carters and Osh Kosh in your shop). I sent you Aster shoes, Naturino shoes, a Ralph Lauren jacket that was NEVER worn, another RL button-down WITH THE TAGS on.
This seems like a complete fraud to me. It makes me sick to my stomach that my high-end items that you "rejected" are going who-knows-where.
I plan on letting the rest of my friends who saw the Today Show segment know all about my less-than-satisfactory $23 experience.
It is a disgrace that you were on that segment--seemed so promising. Seems now that it was simply a lure for you to get merchandise. They should be alerted to be more careful in websites/services that they recommend.

Hi Carrie,
Thank you for getting back with us. When we receive a bag, we carefully evaluate each item to determine it's ability to resell in our store. Unfortunately, sometimes we can not purchase an item from a sender. This could be due to one or more of the following reasons: stained, too worn, damaged, out of season, out of style, and/or a size or brand that we do not accept. If an item is not on the itemized payout sheet it means that unfortunately, we were unable to accept it. Any of your items that we were unable to resell will be recycled, thanks to our partnership with national textile recyclers and distributors. The good news is, whenever I purchase an item in the online shop, I am confident that it’s in like-new or brand-new condition. We hope you understand that thredUP isn’t the end recipient of your clothing - we simply hand-select the best items to be passed down to other children.
I would be happy to explain the Price vs. Payout of an item. The first number is the resale price in our shop. For example:
Ralph Lauren Polo 5 $ 11.49 / $ 4.03
The resale price of the polo is $11.49. The second number is the amount we paid you for that item. You earned $4.03. Each item will have a resale price / payout price. I hope that helps!
If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thanks Carrie.
Have a great weekend!
Best,
-Samantha

"ThredUP used to be a swapping service but they chose to discontinue it for a "concierge program" where you send in baby and kid clothes and they pay you piddly amounts just to turn around and sell them on their website for ridiculous prices that are almost as expensive as RETAIL. I am very disgusted with their website and their customer service."
