"TopTenReviews does its best to appear to be a legitimate review site, and has been online for over 12 years, however it is a scam. TopTenReviews is an affilitate for many of the products and services it recommends. That means that if you follow the link to the products website or order page from TopTenReviews and end up purchasing the product, TopTenReviews makes a percentage of the sale. For the most part, the reviews they publish are not honest unbiased reviews. Instead they give the highest ratings to the products that they earn the most money from, while avoiding reviewing products they can earn no money from. A good example of this, is that it is very rare for them to review free products, since they make no money from promoting them. For example, if there an antivirus with both free and paid versions, they will only review the paid version, ignoring the free version. Typically, for most users, the free version will provide all the protection they need. However, since TopTenReviews can't make money from free software, they won't even mention the free version.
Another example, is that they give different ratings to several driver update programs, which were just rebadged versions of the same program. If the reviews were legitimate they would have all received the same rating. After, I most a post online pointing this out, they removed the reviews for the clones of Advanced Driver Updater. However, they still recommend the software Driver Checker, which has not been updated for over three yearsm and as a result will not find any driver updates released after 2012.
For further evidence that TopTenReviews is a scam, you only need to Google toptenreviews scam."
