"Wish I had read reviews before ordering an expensive toy. They showed a toy (Electronic Interactive Dinosaur Encyclopedia) in their catalog and on their website and claim it was in stock. I ordered it at $49.95, they charged another $9.99 to ship it. When the package arrived it was a similar toy, but a cheaper version, not what I ordered or expected. A tag had been glued to the package to indicate that it was the same number as in the catalog and on-line. It was not. Even the name was different.
I called and e-mailed CUSTOMER SERVICE. Best relief I got from the phone call was that I could send it back at my expense, don't forget to insure the package. I received an email stating someone would get back with me shortly. Hmmmm, that was some time ago and I have not heard a word. It does appear YOUNG EXPLORERS.com uses drop shipping out of CHINA for their products, because they didn't know it was a different product. What??? WISH I HAD READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE ORDERING. THERE MUST BE LOTS OF REASONS THEY ONLY GET A 1 STAR. You're unable to give them less.
My intention is to put a letter describing my experience with Young Explorers and send it to the AARP people as they are always looking out for members best interests. I'm sure there are a lot of grandparents looking to purchase gifts for grandchildren, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year, they need to realize what they are getting into with this store.

"We had a bad experience with Young Explorers. We ordered a gift that was received one month after placing the order. At approximately the same time we also sent a package by post (that was not expedited) to the same address that was received within one week. It appears they don't attempt to ship orders in a timely fashion unless you pay for expedited shipping."
"I ordered Christmas presents on November 20th and didn't feel the need to purchase the expediated shipping. After two weeks I tried contacting them through phone calls and emails to no avail. Since my son's birthday is February I decided to just purchase other gifts for Christmas since I could wait. Yesterday I got a letter mailed to my house dated December 31st from the customer service dept saying all items are out of stock and they will not be sending anything, any questions call customer service. So I called the number in the letter and it was a recording that said they were closed please call back during office hours Monday through Friday 24 hours and 6am-midnight on weekends then it hung up. It was 8pm on a Monday. -_- "

I am really disappointed about this website.
I placed an order on November, 27th. All the items were in stock and were supposed to be delivered for Christmas.
Today is December 23rd and some of the toys are not delivered!
I sent them an email, they did not answer.
I called them , they told me it was because of the storm and they did not have the items so they were not able to do anything for me.
I checked on the website and the items are IN STOCK!
I am so disappointed because if they have told me that they were not able to deliver the toys in time, I would have found another solution…
I placed my order a month ago! Even with a storm, they should have deliver in time!!!

My ex got one of their catalogs and of course, the kid saw it and proceeded to talk about all the cool things Santa could bring her.
I ordered $160 worth of merchandise on 12/11 and paid for expedited shipping which was $24 thinking that would give them more than enough time to ship it and for it to get here. WRONG!
They shipped it on 12/15 and it floated around with no real update. On 12/17, it said it as in Virginia which is what it continued to say until 12/20. At that point, FedEx passed it off to the USPS and now, it is in Atlanta but says it won't be delivered until tomorrow. And I don't put a lot of faith in the USPS based on my experiences so far this Christmas season.
This has been an awful experience. I am stressed out. These are the ONLY things my daughter asked for from Santa. I have looked other places for the items she wanted like Amazon, Toys R Us, etc and they don't have things like that.
Why did I pay for expedited shipping? Even with their claim of standard shipping taking 7-10 days, it's been 11!! again, why did I pay $24 for them to put a rush on things? I am beyond angry. This company has some serious issues. I tried to call customer service and sat on hold for an hour.
Do not order from this company. Save yourself some grief!!"

Seems that this company has big fulfillment problems. Ordered @$90 worth of in-stock toys on Thurs 12/11 - found out today it won't be arriving until Mon 12/22 - two days after we leave town for the Christmas holiday. The rep had the gall to tell me it typically can take 7 to 10 business days for packing & delivery. That's not what the website says! The best they did for me was refund my $13 shipping fee. Pathetic - and you have to call to get a tracking number - nothing is online. I had them remove me from all mailing lists. Shame, as the products seem good."
"I looked for a site to rate this catalogue service in order to publicize their lousy service. Unfortunately, my experience is much the same as others, and they seemingly haven't changed at all. I ordered for Christmas on November 21 and was charged $20 for S&H. Two backordered items were sent on December 3rd and I haven't received them 2 weeks later. The FedEx shipping number doesn't work and today I was told that is a USPS shipping number but that doesn't apply either. The clerk had the gall to tell me that she was sure my post office had the package and just look for a yellow slip in my mailbox, patently false information. Find your items elsewhere: their service is abominable and they have no effective customer service. "
"I bought two presents for my nieces in October. No idea if the presents are good, but my sister received them and she said they looked great. We'll see at Christmas. However they did decide to start charging me $15 a month for some VIP program. Yea, no. Spoke to the customer rep and surprisingly they stopped the stupidity and will refund my money. I didn't even have to threaten them with calling the attorney general's office. We will see if it actually happens."
"Do not use this company. Thy charged me for missing items and told me that they never charged. Also I requested they expedite the missing items because of their mistake and I NEVER received them while still billing my card. The customer rep. hung up on me when I asked for a supervisor. On top of it all the toys are cheaply made and one did not do what the catalog described. I really believe this is a scam outfit. Incidentally I have never written a poor review before for any company knowing everyone has bad days but it would be unfair to the public if I did not."
"I saw this website, but still went through with the order because it was all the little boys wanted for christmas (i was buying to help with someone elses christmas that had fallen on hard times) I purchased the items (2 of the same item) on december 9th, and received a confirmation e-mail shortly thereafter, I have been waiting patiently but got antsy on the 21st when i had still not received them. I just barely found out that they didn't bother to ship the order until the 19th, the tracking number they gave me wouldn't work so i called them. after being on hold for 20 minutes, they couldn't find it either but said it should be there in 6-7 days... I asked them how that was going to work since they are meant for CHRISTMAS, which is why i ordered them in the BEGINNING of december. The customer service rep paused for a minute then said they would send a new pair and overnight them at no cost to me, that may or may not make it by christmas eve.... I am completely sick over the whole thing and will NEVER order from this company again. During the christmas season, companies should at least TRY to ship things in a timely matter, or at the VERY LEAST let you know so you can make other last minute arrangements if you need to. Completely unacceptable..."

"Our experience with this company was terrible! We purchase a great many items on line and have never had such difficulty. The catalog description did not match the item in one significant way. The attempt to do an exchange resulted in our being told that the replacement item would not come for 4-6 weeks. The original order was delivered in a very timely manner. As this was intended as a Xmas gift that was unacceptable. The customer service rep could care less and the supervisor was even worse. I had to fight just to get to speak to a supervisor.
Do not use this company. We have a friend who had a similar experience. Unfortunately we did not speak to her or read this web site before we ordered."
