Bought a pair of shoes off an eBay listing. The listing was a Buy It Now and said they had more than 10 pairs available. LIES!
Got my money back but now don't have the shoes I needed for a gift.
Customer service was a bunch of a-holes. Just said we are not perfect and neither are you...

"I tried ordering two items from Altrec last night. The total came to a little over $100 which was fine since there was $350 in my checking account. When I placed the order, Altrec's system said my card was rejected so I logged into my checking account to see 3 separate charges of $109.48. They don't provide 24 hour technical support like Backcountry.com so I went home and slept on it. When I woke up this morning I contacted the company who offered to replace the order.... That would be fine, IF I HAD ANY MONEY LEFT IN MY ACCOUNT. They said the charges will take a few days to fall off my bank account but this horribly inconveniences me until then. Now I've got no money to eat with ect.. I will not do business with this company again, for a company that soley does internet sales you would think they should have a solid technical support system I.E. credit verification and on top of it all they didn't seem to care about my inconvenience. I will stick with Backcountry.com in the future, I'm a year round waiter in our national parks and typically order between $100 - $500 worth of gear every two months and have never had any worries or been anything but satisfied with Backcountry."
"DON'T ORDER FROM HERE! I had the worst experience ever! Ordered a pair of shoes because it was impossible to find them elsewhere, they were a gift for my boyfriend for our 8 yr anniversary and I paid extra for shipping so that they would arrive on time! I got a call from them the next day so I could verify billing info and I DID!!! Everything was set! Date package was supposed to arrive..... IT DID NOT! Called them up and they said...." I AM SORRY IT SEEMS THAT THIS ORDER WAS CANCELLED BECAUSE WE TRIED TO CONTACT YOU MANY TIMES AND YOU DID NOT RESPOND"....
Ummm what!!!!!???? I verified my information!!! But no one made a note of it! Great customer service!!! My anniversary is tomorrow And I of course am now empty handed!! Customer service was rude too... All he said was " well we can place the order again, but other than that there's nothing I can do" asked to speak to a manager and was told " well I don't see how a manager will be able to help you, he'll tell you the same thing I did"

MAnager eventually gave me a discount and I won't get my package until end of next week... Perhaps it will be a Christmas present now! I am so upset and disappointed... NEVER AGAIN! UNFORTUNATELY I COULDN'T FIND THE SHOES ANYWHERE ELSE... I rather pay $100 more than deal with Altrec again!"

"I contacted Altrec to see if the paddle extenders fit on Carlisle kayak paddles. I was assured that they did fit Carlisle kayak paddles so I ordered two.
The do NOT fit Carlisle kayak paddles.
Since Altrec misrepresented this product to me I thought they should be willing to pay for the return shipping costs.
They will NOT cover return shipping costs.
With this same order they shipped me a defective Carlisle kayak paddle. I can fix the paddle, but I will not deal with Altrec again and would advise others to not deal with them either."
"I ordered a Marmot Angel Fire sleeping bag on a Tuesday night. I selected the 2 day shipping for an extra $5, which I think is a great price (Oregon to Pennsylvania). They shipped it out the next morning and I received it on a Friday. I'm glad I didn't check out these ratings beforehand! I won't hesitate shopping with them again. "
"Why is everyone dissing Altrec because they don't pay return shipping? Lots of great stores (REI, evo, e.g.) don't either, and their return policy clearly states this. I'm not saying altrec is a great store (I haven't had to deal with customer service), but I just completed two transactions and got great prices, free shipping, and recieved my items quickly. When buying clothing you always need to read the return policy and factor in the probablilty of a return when considering your cost. Stores that offer free return shipping do have to pass that cost along to the customer somewhere..."
"I made a mistake and indicated I purchased a Sale item as a gift. Altrec makes gift returns/exchanges a labor instensive pain for it's cusotmers. The co. wants gift orders returned, then a credit acct is set up, then you will finally get your refund or exchange several weeks afterwards. I was promised that my sister would not have to pay the "Regular" price, in the end she did.I emailed Altrec, chatted on line and called; then gave up. I will never use them again."
"Do not buy from Altrec unless you're absolutely sure the item is perfect. They have terrible customer service. Their guarantee of satisfaction is baloney.
I don't usually write bad reviews, but I was particularly insulted since I bought from them thinking that they had a good return policy. Don't expect to be able to return anything to them. And don't expect any kind of customer service.
It was a terrible experience and I will never purchase anything from them again. "
"Buy elsewhere. Ems, Rei, Backcountry to name a few better sites. First off they do not exchange (simple common service all other stores offer). So you have to order the right size the first time or you are subject to price fluctuations which typically go up. On top of that unlike competitors you have to pay return shipping out of pocket. Customer service is also quite poor.

"This company should not be your first choice. Their prices are OK but the site is harder to navigate than most and some product videos don't load. They sent me a 15%-off-for-my-next-order promotion if I reviewed a product but I had great difficulty in cashing in on this benefit, eventually having to call the company to straighten out the mess. Then there's the long detailed disclaimer posted on their site regarding the company's "review and acceptance" of whatever you write before publishing it. Not too friendly to deal with the rep on the phone either. There are so many other far better outdoor equipment websites available that I don't see the point with putting up with Altrec's nonsense."

"Hey Grandparents; Don't shop at Atrec! I was referred to Altrec by a coworker so I can buy a North Face jacket for my granddaughter for her birthday. I called customer service and verified availability even though Altrec was about 20% higher that eveyone else but they had the color that was needed. I was told that I would receive the jacket within 2 days after shipping but that didn't happen. I called customer service two times and was told two different things from the same guy. I will never shop here again because of their lies. I should have done research first before ordering because there's hundreds of negatives against this place. Shop around. Altrec should be your last place ever to shop."
