"I purchased a refurbished LCD monitor that had no indication of being out of stock at the time of purchase on May 13. I received my purchase confirmation but after a week of waiting for a shipping confirmation, I finally called customer service only to find out that the item was now out of stock (although they felt the need to bill by credit card anyway). When I asked when to expect delivery, I was told that if the item did not ship within a month, an equal or upgraded product would be shipped upon my approval. I was told that I would receive weekly emails updating my order status, of which I have received none. It has now been over a month since the date of purchase, and customer service denies ever guaranteeing shipment within a month or any offering of an upgrade. They refuse to provide an estimated shipping date, but admitted it may be another month. On the plus side, their customer service is friendly and easy to contact. I'm simply frustrated with their policy of selling out of stock refurbished items and their inflexibility to substitute for a similar item of equal or greater quality.
***Update***
I finally received shipment of the correct monitor today (7/9/04), nearly two months after ordering. The monitor itself is in great condition and looks great, but apparently the stand was what caused this item to be a refurb because it was replaced with a gargantuan generic "one stand fits all" steel monstrosity. The stand does not attach firmly to the monitor and wobbles when bumped. This new stand also prevents the monitor from being able to be rotated from landscape to portrait view as intended. Due to the size and material of this stand, my new LCD monitor weighs in at over 40 pounds, and actually weighs more than my current 17" CRT monitor. It did ship with all the necessary cables, but each one is only 18" long, and thus essentially useless. Even when the edge of the monitor is touching the case of my computer, there is no slack in the cables. When I called customer support and asked about the different stand and why no mention of it was made on their website, they said that a disclaimer page is listed somewhere on their website, just not on the page with the corresponding item. The only solution they offered me was to return my current monitor via RMA, and essentially play the lottery by ordering another and hoping it had the correct stand. After waiting for two months to receive the first one, I don't like those odds.
I know it's a risk buying refurbished items, but other venders (such as newegg) seem to handle the process much better. From the looks of their reseller rating though, it appears that my situation is an isolated experience. Here's wishing you better luck."
