"I was attempting to order a canon 40d kit. Filled out all the info and sent the order. I immediately recieved a phone voice mail from a Michael to verify the order. I promptly returned the call and keyed in the extension number for Michael. He then transfered me to another individual (didn't get name) who explained that they wanted to go over the order and they needed my 3 digit security code from the credit card. Then I was told that I needed to upgrade the memory card for a faster one. I told them I already had the fastest memory cards available from a previous camera. Then i was told that I needed to buy a battery and charger since the battery provided will only last 10 minutes. I told them that I had batteries from a previous camera that matched. I was then told that I needed uv filters and again I said no thanks (the uv filters were included with there package) At that point the person told me that I was throwing my money away if I didn't purchase these required upgrades as the camera wouldn't work in the manner it was supposed to. I suggested that the order be canceled at that moment. I hung up and called back Michael and explained to him what happened and asked if that was there policy to pressure people into purchasing expensive upgrades that weren't necesary. He replied that he had just transfered me to accounting and offered no further explaination. I told him that i thought this was a scam and would write a review of my negative experience and he stated that that was the wonderful thing about america. I would stay clear of this reseller and others that operate simularly,"

"I ordered a Canon lens from this outfit and was talked into "express" shipping for $40 more. While tracking the order, I saw that it was being shipped by UPS ground. My lens arrived in a plain white box with no warrenty or manual. I called 1wayphoto customer service and was told that the package had been shipped express ground and that the white box was the way the lens came from the factory. I called UPS and was told that there was no such thing as express ground. I was told by Canon customer service that the only lenses shipped in white boxes were refurbished lenses, and they were only sold to employees. When I relayed this info to the guy at 1wayphoto, he said that he could charge me whatever he wanted for shipping and that it didn't matter what kind of box the lens came in. After reading some of the other reviews on 1wayphoto, I feel that I got off easy. I hate to say it, but these guys remind me of a relative of mine who is always willing to screw someone out of a dime just to show that he is smarter than them. Way to run a business, guys!"

"I ordered a non-digital Canon Lens for my Canon Rebel XTI. I was emailed to call and confirm my order. I was asked to provide my 3 digit security code from the back of my credit card. Scott Jensen was very helpful and wanted to confirm my purcchase. He gave me some advice and I purchased a digital Sigma Lens instead.

Kind, Professional and prompt delivery. I received my Lens today, 8/31/07.

My initial expererience was Awesome, but in the end they pulled a bait and switch on me, too.

"Ditto 7/25 thru 8/20 complaints and many earlier ones as well. This is the complaint I sent today to the Federal Trade Commission. "I have been trying to get this company to deliver the camera I ordered with them online almost 3 months ago, when I was told I'd get it in 3 weeks. I believe they have no intent to complete any advertised sale as is; they use bait and switch tactics, and if you don't make the switch, they don't complete the sale which would otherwise cause them a financial loss. Please note under http://www.resellerratings.com/store/1_Way_Photo the 7/25 through 8/20/07 complaints. Can't anyone do anything about them to stop these people? My complaints mirror those already written at this site. feel free to call me at ...""

"I found 1 Way Photo Store was not as bad as I have read from most of the reviews.

I bought a package of Nikon D-200 with 2 lenses: 28-70 and 70-300mm from the store. The package arrived home in a reasonable speed. Nikon in Thailand assembled the camera; however, the two Sigma Lens were made in Japan. RepairTech in New Jersey covered the warranty.

The camera was functioning well, with the bargain price that this store offers, I can't complain much, except the charge for S&H was a bit high: $120.

"On Friday, August 17, 2007 I went on line looking to purchase a new Nikon D80 camera. After some price comparison and learning more about the D80, I determined to purchase the camera from (1 Way Photo) for what appeared to be a good deal. And so the purchase was made via 1 Way Photo’s website. Within short time I received via email, an invoice for the following:NikonD80 Advanced Package (W/ Nikon 28-80mm and 70-300mm lens “and more.” @ $799.99. In addition I ordered a Polarizer Filter @ $59.99 and a 2 Hour Lithium Rechargeable Battery for the D80 @ $99.99. The total of the invoice was $967.97 including $8.00 for shipping. I thought that would be the end of it and would look forward to receiving my new camera.

The horror begins . . . About an hour later I get a phone call from Greg at 1 Way Photo. He began by aggressively questioning me about why I bought what I did. “I can give you a better deal on . . .” Then he said, “That battery will be no good unless you buy an external charger.” I asked him what came with the camera, like a charger and battery. He said that the battery that came with the camera would only last 20 minutes. If I wanted to use the camera longer than 20 minutes, I needed to buy a: “I have a special today and can upgrade the battery to a 5-hour one for” . . . I honestly don’t recall what he said. I also needed to purchase an external charger. “You can not charge the 5 hour battery in the camera.” Then he started on the Nikon lenses. “They’re crap, just cheap lenses. I can upgrade you to Sigma lenses.” I could not ask any questions because he constantly talked over me. By the time it was over, all that was left of my original order was just the Nikon D80 camera body. Greg had increased the total price to $1259.99. He also up the shipping cost to $60.00.

Saturday, August 18, 2007 . . . 1 Way Photo was closed. I spent most of the day researching other D80's sellers on the internet. I was also able to recall more of the BS from Greg. He told me that the new D80 had a fast shutter. That with what I was getting, it would take 10 to 20 seconds for the camera to process the image. I needed a “Fast Card.” I should also upgrade the “Digital Memory Card” at a special reduced price.

By Saturday afternoon I knew I had been hustled. I called my credit card bank and asked what I could do about the charge. They advised me to dispute the charge. The Bank said it would back me up.

Sunday, August 19, 1 Way Photo opened at 10:00 a.m.. I called and started with my complaints of all of the above. I said that I had no idea what was ordered and that I felt I had been scammed and wanted to cancel the order. The reply came as a shout “How could you say that.” And this game started all over again. Yelling at me, “I gave you a great deal,” and on and on. Once again I questioned the lens switch from Nikon to Sigma. I quote, “Nikon Lenses are *hit.”

I could not deal with this man’s screaming and rudeness. I hung up out of intimidation and frustration. Below is an email I sent the next morning.

August 20, 2007
To: 1 Way Photo
Subject: Cancel Order
I am notifying you to cancel my order, #16324-W’ immediately. I have called you numerous times questioning the many changes you have made to my first order dated August 17, 2007. All of my conversations with you have been frustrating and discordant. Your use of four letter words is totally unprofessional.
Further, for your information and my disdain, I found on the Internet this morning the following information regarding your questionable company. I attest to the following statements as I was treated in the identical way.

Lastly, I have contacted my credit card company of your dishonesty. The Bank is now prepared to Dispute the charges.

August 21, 2007

The package via UPS arrived at my home. I refused to accept delivery of one parcel from 1 Way Photo. The UPS driver marked the parcel and left with it.

August 23, 2007

At around 5:30 p.m. "1 Way photo" started calling my home. My caller ID alerted me of the calls. There were three calls back to back between 5:37 and 5:45 P.M. Immediately I disconnected all my home phones as to avoid another confrontation with Greg at "One Way Photo." (The calls, I’m certain, were the result of the returned shipment.)

August 24, 2007

At 8:00 a.m. I had my local telephone company block "1 Way Photo’s" phone numbers. ***-***-**** . . . ***-***-****. Because . . . The accounts below were found at resellerrating.com Monday morning. It is from these statements that I was able to confirm my uncertainties as well as felt a real threat of being harassed. All grounded on other customers posted experiences with "1Way Photo."

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/1_Way_Photo

In summary . . . I was out and out lied to:

The truth from US Nikon’s website:

http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=25412

What is included with the Nikon D80 camera body?

Supplied Accessories*: EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-ion Battery, MH-18a Quick Charger, EG-D2Audio Video Cable, UC-E4 USB Cable, Strap, Body cap, DK-5Eyepiece Cap, DK-21 Rubber Eyecup, BM-7 LCD monitor cover, Accessory shoe cover, PictureProject CD-ROM* Supplied accessories may differ in each country or area.

Again from Nikon describing the D80 included battery.

Up to 2,700 images per battery charge:* High-Efficiency power systems featuring reduced power consumption and Real-Time Fuel Gauge with Nikon's EN-EL3e Lithium Ion rechargeable battery.

*Achieved under the following test conditions: Fully charged EN-EL3e battery; temperature of 20̊C/68̊F; Zoom-Nikkor AF-S DX 18-135mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED lens; continuous shooting mode: continuous-servo autofocus; image quality set to JPEG BASIC; image size set to Medium; shutter speed 1/250 second; shutter release pressed halfway for three seconds and focus cycled from infinity to minimum range three times with each shot; monitor turned on for five seconds after six shots and then turned off; cycle repeated once exposure meters turned off.

Lies, scam and fraud . . .

1) He said that the battery that came with the camera would only last 20 minutes. If I wanted to use the camera longer than 20 minutes, I needed to buy a "I have a special today and can upgrade the battery to a 5-hour one for" The truth: (Batteries are not rated by time. There is no such thing as a 20 minute or a 5 hour battery. Battery life is measured by the number of pictures taken.)

2) He also said, I needed to purchase an external charger. "You can not charge the 5 hour battery in the camera."

The truth: (The D80 does not recharge batteries in the camera. Greg sold me a battery and an external charger as accessories.)

3)He said that with what I was getting it would take 10 to 20 seconds for the camera to process the image. I needed a "Fast Card."

The truth: (This is a complete fabrication. The Nikon D80 has the capacity to take 3 frames per second. It does not need a special "High Speed Card" "Fact Card" to do this.)

4) Nikon lens are substandard. I won’t dignify his foul mouth with a reply. However, this was another bait and switch, he swapped Sigma lenses for Nikon.

5) At the very top of 1 Way Photo’s website in bold letters it states; "Free Shipping." My order of 8/17/07 had a shopping charge of $8.00. After the big bait and switch, I was charged $60.00 for shipping.

Never Again . . .

August 28, 2007

I called my Credit Card Bank to confirm that the charges would be "Disputed." Upon checking my balance . . . the charges from 1 Way Photo had been reimbursed . . . all but $60.00. What a relief . . . I’m more than willing to pay the $60.00 and be rid of this debacle.

"SCAMMERS! DO NOT BUY!

I wish I had checked here first. 1wayphoto.com is rude, illegitimate, and will lie straight to you. My experience is just as the others here, bait & switch: order a flash online at a great price, get an email and phone call saying I must call to confirm. First they try to sell you a different product, you decline. Then they make things up about the product you ordered, like deficiencies that the product you ordered contains, which can be remedied by, you guessed it, paying them more money. In my case, they claimed the flash, a Nikon SB-800, would not work with a Nikon digital camera and that it would come with a plastic shoe mount (the Nikon SB-800's are only sold with metal mounts). Getting the metal mount was going to cost me 10% more. He spouted some “technical specs” to back his case which sounded like total fabrications, and upon research, they were. I asked to place the order on hold while I checked into it, he said they don't do that. He said he would cancel the order, made some snide remarks and hung up on me. Then I got the standard email saying my product was backordered and therefore cancelled -- this is the other scam used when they can't con you into paying them more.

Bottom line: they are unethical cheats who will NEVER sell you a product as described on their website. STAY AWAY!

"Here are the pertinant details:

Placed an order for camera stand alone, was told to call for confirmation, was told on the phone that it would be three weeks. Called three weeks later and was told that it'd be another two months unless I wanted to order a kit. Asked for manager, was told they don't have one -- asked for a business unit number to report them to the Better Business Bureau, was told they don't have one and they hung up on me.

I called back and asked for confirmation that my order will be cancelled and again for a manager, phone number, address, anything -- was told that they didn't have any of the above and that my personal information and email address will now be "blackballed" (whatever that means) and released to all know spam accounts... I was irate at this type of treatment. Got hung up on again.

I reported this business to the New York Better Business Bureau requesting confirmation that my order has been cancelled at that my personal information is secure. I did receive that confirmation two weeks later (BBB is wonderful). However, I now have more spam coming to my email address than ever before in the last 10 years of having the same address -- I'd say 10 times the spam, all with the same format and I can't help but believe that this is with regards to 1wayphoto who threatened as much.

Terrible business; absolutely horrible customer service and complete lack of ethical business practices. Never again.

"1wayphoto.com - SCAM

I order a canon 30D Platinum Package including the 30D, a Canon 28-105mm f/4.0-5.6 USM Lens and a Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM Lens. I get a call to confirm the order. They say those lenses do
not work with that camera w/o a conversion which is next to useless. They say I have similar lenses
made by sigma for $200 more a piece. They have a value of over $500.00 a piece. I agree after
researching the issue with a friend who is more familiar with photography and cameras. She confirmed
that it is a common conversion factor.

So now my total goes from $909.00 up to $1309.00 for the same package with the different Sigma
lenses.

I receive my camera and I have a a receipt for way more than I ever agreed upon. My credit card has
been charged $1598.61. Now that is over $650.00 more than I opted for originally and $200.00 more
than the up-sell price they offered. Also shipping went from an original $45 to over $85.

Now I have researched the “new” lenses the sold me after the original purchase. Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4.0 DG and the Sigma 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 DG Macro Super II SLD auto focus lens. The have a value of around $350.00 for both. Now on the phone, before and after the items arrived I am told by 1wayphoto.com that these are not out yet and they are made in Japan and come out in 2008 and have a value of $500.00 a piece. I have yet to find these lenses that they are talking about anywhere on-line. But I do find reviews of the same lens combo for a lot cheaper more like $175.00 a piece or so.

So I make a call to 1wayphoto.com to clarify. They say "you got a battery, charger and a high
speed card" and the upgraded lenses. I said "I never asked for or confirmed those items except the
lenses." The kid on the phone is a real jerk and says - "send it back and it will be around $300 for a restocking fee plus shipping both ways." So now I am looking at spending about around $450 to return the camera I never used, only because they had over charged, added unwanted items and have 2 lenses they claim are 3 times the price I can find.

Keep in mind, the contents included in the original price of $909.00 included batteries and the
memory card.

So now I decide to research and find this is a common practice with 1wayphoto.com to sell items they
don't have then try to up sell or have problems completing the orders which are purchased.

Now at the bottom of the invoice it states that you need to return the items with in 7 days and that
you will pay 15% restocking fee. Also you need a RMA number to write on the box to return the items.
So I call for a RMA number at 5:00 EST which is still in their normal business hours(M-F 9:30AM
- 7:30PM EST) and the salesman says customer service has gone home for the day, call back tomorrow. As you can see the longer it takes to return the more they will charge or not even except the
package. So now I am debating sending it w/o the RMA or waiting and trying to complete things the
right way.

So with the 15% restocking fee of the $1598.00 is around $250.00. Plus shipping both ways, equaling
a grand total of roughly $400.00 to return an item I never used.

After the research, I decide that I would rather spend double the amount at an honest retailer then
give these guys a penny of my money.

All in all, I will be canceling the order with my credit card company to refund my money and will
ship the items back as I received them.

Just Google - 1wayphoto.com scam and you will be able to find all the research you need so that you
will not have to go through the same issue when trying to purchase yourself a new camera.

www.1wayphoto.com = terrible business, rude, untrustworthy, snakes.

"I placed an order for a Canon S5IS. I needed a new camera with a good image stabilizer. This seemed like the fastest way of getting a camera and 1 Way Photo offered it for $399, which would have been a good buy.

I was visiting my brother for his 07.07.07 wedding and wanted a camera to record the event.

AFTER the order was placed --stupid, stupid - I checked the ratings for the store. Next time I won't be so foolish.

The next morning I received a call from 1 Way Photo. Apparently the camera was out of stock and the person tried to up sell to a more expensive camera. Why did the site not state that it was out of stock when I placed the order?

I had no intention of waiting for a camera that may or may not arrive. May or may not be from the gray market, so I canceled the order. The fellow I spoke with rudely said "FINE" and hung up on me. Who does that??

So, I picked it up for $479. at a retailer in Vegas. I'm relieved I read these ratings. I have my new camera and it is wonderful.

"1WayPhoto.com:
I ordered a Canon camera "package" from them. They double-charged me for shipping, did not bother to include a $200 item, bait and switched me from nice canon lenses to super cheapo Sigma lenses, and the camera they sold me was a 'grey' camera, which I think, is an illegal copy. After I found that out, thanks to a poster here, I emailed them and told them I would turn this camera over to the police if they didn't credit my credit card back every penny. They hurredly did this.....after I'd been fighting them for a month. I had been filling out online forms for the BBB, FTC, and everybody else I could, and emailed 1WayPhoto a copy every time, and they gave me back some of my money, but it took the grey camera thing to get me back the rest of it. Oh yes, I forgot...I was charged, initially a total of $1180 for a package of stuff worth less than half of that. THAT is what you can expect when you do business with these people.
Thank you to this forum for providing me with the info it took to get my money back.

"PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.
It's FRAUD. I never got any email confirmations except one saying to "Call to confirm".
Bait & switch indeed...they convince you to buy other stuff. My total went from being around $600 to $1078. I called to cancel, they told me it's been shipped out. I told them to provide a tracking number, they tell me you don't get a tracking number until UPS picks it up - LIE. My company works directly with UPS and the moment you print out the labels, you can get the tracking number. They started YELLING, asking me "WHY DO YOU WANNA CANCEL YOUR ORDER?!?!?!" Very rude, IMMATURE, not legitimate business. Let's bring these people down through the media & internet. I will be rejecting the package, disputing the transaction on my credit card. They told me I will be charged 25% restocking fee but that will not happen. They messed with the wrong person, I am going to blast them all over the internet. Their physical address is: 5407-5409 18th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11204

"DO NOT BUY FROM 1 WAY PHOTO. This was easily the worst experience that I have ever had in retail. My experience is very similar to the many who have written previously. I made a very large purchase from their online store. The next day I was contacted by their sales rep Scott. Through a series of lies and misrepresentations of both Canon and Sigma camera products, Scott convinced me to change my order from Canon L lenses to Sigma lenses.

With all the warning bells ringing in my head, I let him talk me into changing my purchase. He insisted that the great deal being offered would not necessarily be available if I took the time to check out his information and call back.

The next day, I contacted both Canon USA and Sigma USA and determined that he completely misrepresented both product lines. When I called him back with the information that I had found out, he still insisted that I was wrong and that he was correct.

I then started the process of contacting my credit card company and disputing the charges that had already been made. They recommended that I not accept delivery of the camera and lenses and to send the entire order back to 1 Way Photo.

There was a three week waiting period, but I was given a full refund from 1 Way photo with no restock or shipping charges. 1 Way Photo had threatened to charge me a 20% restock charge and shipping costs. On my order, that would have amounted to approximately $1,600.

Needless to say, I am so relieved that the credit card company was able to resolve this dispute 100%. The stress that I endured during the three week waiting period was no fun.

If you have an order with them that has not been received yet, you can avoid charges if you refuse their order and send it back. They are not a legitimate seller and you are much better off not buying anything from them.

"UPDATED 8/14/08

Do not be fooled by the two positive reviews on 8/13/08. They are clearly part of this outfit. And as proof of that -- the two other search engines they mention (ShopCartUSA and Low Price Digital) are being run by these people. That's part of their scam. the locations and research into this has already been done and it is easy to find it on several of these reviews on Reseller Ratings. Also - just google the names of those engines along with 1 Way Photo. You'll find several people who have exposed the scam they are running by operating 1 Way Photo and controlling a review site. They are furious that Reseller Ratings is a fair and honest site so they try and belittle it and discredit it. Do not be fooled. These people are breaking the law and I can personally promise you the NY State Attorney's office is already looking into it. Let's hope they follow through like they have promised.

HUGE WARNING - DO NOT ORDER FROM 1 Way Photo!!!!
THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM OPERATION - CONFIRMED WITH VISA, AMEX AND NY STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE.

Clearly, I am just one of many honest consumers who have had to deal with this corrupt and most likely - highly illegal company. I won't go into details as several of the stories here duplicate exactly what I experienced: Lying about the product. Lying about the shipping costs. Lying about your order. And using distance and their anonymous location to cheat and threaten their customers. This company and the people in it are breaking the law. And the New York Attorney General's office is most certainly going to follow up my complaint to them. I have assembled a long list of their illegal business practices for Attorney General Cuomo's office - so have faith, we will get retribution.

I'd like to get as many of us as possible in contact with each other. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on how we could do that, please let me know.

I only found this site today. Had I seen these other experiences, I never would've dealt with 1 Way Photo. But that doesn't excuse their illegal and unethical practices and should not be used against any of us. This company is liable for damages to each and every one of us. Going the route of a class-action suit will stop them forever. And I for one would be happy to coordinate that effort.

They're counting on all of us moving on with our lives and letting them get away with this. But I can't do that -- it's not fair to the other innocent customers who will unknowningly be cheated just like me. 1 Way Photo's days are numbered. And if they try to set up another company with a different address and contact info -- they're scam will be exposed. The Attorney General's office has assured me of that. And so has the IRS.

Hope to talk to some of you soon...

UPDATE - as of 5/28/08
The NY State Attorney General's Office contacted me and said that they were undergoing an investigation of this company, as is the IRS. I'm not sure why they have not shut them down yet but a lawyer I spoke with said that they may be getting enough evidence against them to not only shut them down but to also send them away to prison. It has to do with the amount of fraud they commit. I'm thrilled to hear this -- but just wanted everyone to know that these guys are going away. Hopefully very soon.

If anyone gets any more updates -- please post. Many thanks.
