Very poor experience with 3 Gorillas

"Ordered a Portable AC unit from 3 Gorillas, my original unit was out of stock after I placed the order and I was offered a replacement item. What I received was indeed the replacement unit they offered, but after researching I found it was a long discontinued item that was selling for less than what I had paid for the original purchase, also it was packed so poorly the accessories were damaged. Inspection of the unit itself looks like it was very abused in it's previous life, opening the case the unit showed signs of extensive abuse, bent metal, broken plastic. This is an 80 pound unit so shipping fees back would be outrageous so listed it right away online to try to salvage whatever I can and buy from a more reputable dealer. I know this was a refurbish unit I was buying but was unaware that it have been beaten with a baseball bat before being sent to 3Gorillas. Will not be shopping again.

Hidden Gem - Just Great People

"Our freezer died over the holiday weekend. Due to the Covid 19 surge there are no freezers to be found within 50 miles of my home. I contacted over 14 stores and they all were out of stock. I found 3gorillas on Craig’s list and wow what a score. The website was easy to navigate and the purchase process was very well explained. They immediately responded to my chats and followed up with warm and friendly emails confirming my purchase and provided instructions on how to pickup. Next morning I arrived at the agreed time, pulled up , a person immediately came out and asked my name and told me to open my tail gate. They loaded my freezer in my van and I was on my way home in under 10 mins. I was blow away with the professionalism and expediency of this transaction. After I got home discovered the freezer I purchased can come with options. I called the manufacturer directly and both of their recommends suppliers looking for the extra items I wanted. On a whim I reached back out to 3gorillas via email and explained what I was looking for and Tracy was able to secure the items for me and arrange for pick up the very next day. Drove back the next morning and the pick up process was even better this time. Emily greeted me at the loading dock and asked how she could help me. I explained why is was there and she knew exactly who I was and had my items immediately available. Handed them over and away I went. Under 5 mins this time. Truly a wonderful customer experience every step of the way. "

Awesome company!

"These guys are awesome! Every question I had, they answered; any problem I encountered, they fixed. The owners even gave me suggestions on comparable equipment, showed me the reviews, and helped me with getting everything set up. The wine cooler I bought was exceptional. It was available and ready as soon as I arrived and in excellent condition. I recommend this company to everyone I meet for the supplies they need. I have never dealt with better people."

Go anywhere else to buy what you need. ANYWHERE ELSE.

"I was sent 2 dehumidifiers in horrible shape. The motor on one had fallen completely through the case and had no additional parts to properly operate it. The 2nd unit was cracked internally and on the sides. The filter plate would not stay in place either as its internal parts were all sitting in a pile of broken plastic inside the unit (again no additional parts that come w ALL dehumids were included). There were no damaging marks on the outside or inside of the box. This leads me to belive these units were sent from their warehouse in this condition. And this was the BEST part of dealing with 3gorillas. Their customer service & internal communication is the reason i am leaving this complaint. Easily the worst online purveyor I have ever dealt with. I am still waiting on a return slip to be issued so i can get my money back from this purchase. At this point i am not optimistic and am starting to mark this up as a $400 loss."

3 Gorillas has a rude owner and poor customer service

"I bought a 8000 BTU Air Conditioner and it was used not refurbished. The remote was not in plastic and the unit was not fully incased. Exposed to the elements I told the owner and he told me to take it out an use it, I said I don't want it, it's used. I said, If you can sent me a new one in 7 days I will take it, but if not take it back. I followed up for 5 days and on the 5th follow up Tracy told me their email has been down. Good Excuse. I have a puppy in an RV and can't risk the AC going out in TEXAS, it will be 150 degrees in here. They didn't care. They are not compassionate and reshipped used items. Poor Company and customer service. Oh they made me carry a 60 lbs box to UPS with reconstructed Shoulders. They wouldn't refund shipping for damaged goods and used goods and were filing a claim with UPS."

If at first you don't succeed.....

"I bought a 8,000 BTU air conditioner from them that did not cool the room. They took it back happily, I got a bigger one for a small price difference. That one didn't auto-evaporate as advertised so they took THAT back happily, gave me a better one for no additional charge that drains out the window. They were very nice each time I had to contact them, and were even willing to meet me 1/2 way to trade (I didn't need them to). I was so surprised that they took them back twice with no complaints. I will not hesitate to purchase from them again, it was a pleasure."

"I purchased a wine cooler in December of 2013 for $449.99. The compressor stopped working by June 2014. For those who don't know, the compressor is a major part and will cost hundreds to have replaced. 3Gorillas.com basically told me there was nothing they can do. They offered me a base unit, which would be the refrigerator only, minus the doors and shelves for $200. What they also didn't say when I purchased the refurbished wine cooler was it was already 6 years old. Their website has a catchy little video that uses the phrase "slightly or never used returns and restore them to their original like new working condition". This is false and misleading advertising. I will not be buying any other products from 3Gorillas.com and suggest anyone buying from them use caution."

" I purchased a Haier HLP23E-R clothes washer, from 3 Gorillas, circa early December, 2012. After a few days researching and pricing for a couple more, I decided to purchase this rejuvenated washer. The washer was 15% cheaper than any other merchandiser’s offer, be it new, rejuvenated, or recycled. Three Gorillas offered free shipping. Shipping costs ranged from a low of about $35 to a high of well over a hundred dollars.

I admit the name is catchy and warms the spirit with friendliness when shopping. (Just what American consumer junkies need?) This was not the reason for purchasing; recycling and price were my reasons. I really like the idea of American remanufacturers fixing appliances and reselling them. We need jobs. Haier is a fine Chinese brand and the largest manufacturer of home appliances in China. I have been researching Chinese appliances for a few years and I must admit they do a fine job. I own three Chinese made major appliances and so far I am satisfied with all of them.

This washer is a slightly different story. After shopping and receiving this unit, I was quite pleased with the technology and the reduction of scarce resources to create this machine. The design is lightweight and small but technologically well built. This little washer looked practically brand new, and I received 15% off the lowest retail. Energy savings seems likely.

I have owned full sized washers that occasionally spin and hit the sides of the machine where the operator must stop and rebalance the wet clothes. This machine is too lightweight for such a mishap to occur; therefore, the machine must be designed to never hit the sides. The drum must spin faster to get the clothes as dry, as a full sized washer. (Smaller in diameter means higher RPMs are necessary to remove the same quantity of water. Think of centripetal force and how the further you are from the center of a spin, at the same RPM, the harder it is to hold on.) This unit is designed to not hit the sides at all.

Anyway, the unit works great. There is no agitator. Soap usage is less or I just learned to use the right amount. For this Haier HLP23E-R I use about three heaping teaspoons of dry regular soap and a quarter cup of white vinegar. The loads reach up to about a half dozen long sleeve shirts or three to four pairs of pants. There are plenty of selections for tailoring your washing needs, including an extra spin cycle.

It there is a problem with this unit, it is that the clothes tend to loosely-knot themselves during a regular washing cycle. I think this is because of a lack of agitator. I believe the bottom and the sides move in different directions during agitation. (This unit has a separate bottom part from the circular side-drum part, making two parts to the drum.) The washer will not allow the operator to observe the washing in action. If I lift the lid to see, the safety switch cuts the cycle off. These two drum parts might be spinning or moving in opposite directions, during the washing cycle. Whatever happens, the arms of shirts regularly become mildly knotted. This is where the extra spin alleviates the wetter clothes when mild knotting becomes a problem.

The washing cycles are long, ranging from 40 to 91 minutes. The manual suggests the longer washing time means more cycles and soaks. The clothes have always come out clean. I figure I may be saving energy with the soaking cycles.

I have performed about thirty-five wash loads with about 14 or more extra spin cycles. I have received or earned about eight error messages (E-1) concerning “Clean foreign material from the drain and close the lid.” This may be the lint trap. I clean the lint trap. There are a host of five different error codes labeled on the lid, seems routine.

The washer water drain hose goes into the kitchen sink drain. I have a garbage disposal. I push the hose around in the disposal cavity to hold it in. The unit does not pump out with any great force and never empties faster than my kitchen sink drain will tolerate. The operator’s manual specifically requests for the drain hose to be in the 34 to 40 inch high range when going from the washer and into the kitchen sink. I had an E-1 error once for the drain hose being right at 39-40 inches high.

I purchased a spendy 300 pound rated power-tool-universal-roll-around wheelbase for this washer. The $35 set of four wheels, designed and suggested by the manufacturer, did not compare to a $60 high quality 300 pound rated wheelbase. In five to ten years, the washer might be gone and I would be left with a great mobile shop tool base, instead of four wheels. Besides this consideration, the stability and mobility works and I find this little washer moves around easily on this wheeled base. The washer unit is light and easy for a sixty-year-old trim man to pick up and walk into another room without the wheels. There are two well-designed handholds designed on opposite sides of the appliance. Maybe a user does not need wheels or a wheelbase.

If I were to have done this over, I would have purchased a new Haier HLP23E-R instead of this one from 3 Gorillas. After more shopping, I found a new unit, with no shipping, for only $265. It took some time, as most of the competitors price this unit well into the $300 range and most add shipping. I believe the one I received from 3 Gorillas was fine, after I got use to the clicking noises. Please be ready to accept mild yet many strange clicking sounds compared to the heavier older style washers; I just had some concerns with the washer due shipping damage. My cat needed retraining. He had not marked the new unit, but if I….

I have written 3 Gorillas numerous times about three sides of the washer having a total of six or seven long vertical dents. The dents are outward, coming from the inside, where the drum was allowed to swing in transit. The bottom packaging was broken and this allowed the drum to swing. It obviously had a liberated trip.

Three Gorillas and I have communicated over the course of a month and considered what to do. They were very attentive in meeting my concerns. They sent me a second unit for replacement of this one. The second unit had a proper shipping bottom restraint and the drum did not swing in shipping. Unfortunately, the second washer would not even begin to operate. It was dead with or without power. Obviously, I repacked the second washer and unpacked the first one, again. I retained the faulty shipping container bottom for the sake of another shopper. ( I could apply for a shipping job with little practice.)

The long story is 3 Gorilla’s policy is to replace a dissatisfied customer’s product, one time. They paid shipping for everything. I like the people, I like inexpensive rejuvenated products with a warranty, as I am doing my part ecologically. Three Gorillas offered me a full year of warranty instead of the ninety-day warranty, for staying on board. If there is shipping damage, I will have tested this washer with more than two hundred washing cycles. I feel secure with this.

My concern is not the looks of the appliance skin of the Haier, as it is barely noticeable. My concern is the long-term functionality of the washer. The long dents come from the inside out and are not noticeable unless you are assembling it on its side or looking across the light in the side. This is an inherent potential leading to a problem, as again, the design of this washer is never to be out of balance and hit the sides. The spin is faster, the motor is smaller, and all mechanical parts, including the water’s pump reside on the bottom of the unit. For this unit to have been shipped from New York to the West Coast and swing the whole way makes me consider the internal working parts.

I would purchase from 3 Gorillas again, and I definitely will consider this washer again, if it lasts.

"I ordered 2 of the exact same product. It was my first order from this vendor. The shipping time was excellent. One arrived in perfect condition. The other was clearly defective. It had not been refurbished. I was offered a more expensive product for the same price, but that product was not what I needed. I was able to get a refund.
