"My experience is the same as everyone. I ordered a camera on 12-19-07. I did not get an order confirmation so i call them December 23 on a Sunday evening to see if it shipped. They said no because they had to check out my charge card, because i was a new customer. Then he told me how he would give me a great deal on a one gb memory card and a rechargeable batteries with fast charger. I said i did not want it, but he talked me into it saying i needed it and said it would be the lowest price of anyone. I checked out the prices Sunday night on the Internet. I found out 86th St. prices were very high. I called 86th Street Monday December 24 at 9:00 am to cancel my order. They told me it shipped. I asked for tracking number and he said their system was down so he could not give it to me. I called my credit card to make a dispute and they said not to accept the order. My credit card co. did say 86th street had charged my card and it was pending. I called 86th Street back and told them I called my credit card co. and put in a dispute and will not accept the order if it was shipped. 86th street then changed their story and said it had not shipped and will cancel it but they would not give me a cancellation number. It does appear that it is off of my credit card."
"Never repeat never order from these con artists. I ordered two cameras for christmas presents. You have to call a number to have them verify the order. When I called I had just got out of surgery the previous day and was felling kinda under the weather, on pain meds. When I got done verifying the order that was for $425 the con artist had me ordering $600 worth of cheap chinese accessories. Tried to return, can't, they call your order a pkg deal and you can't return them. I got bit don't you."
"I was duped, just like everyone else. I was emailed and told to call Steve at x203 - Three 15 minute+ hold times later and I spoke with someone who was very rude and tried to sell me the overpriced "special" batteries and argued with me when I explained it used any AA-sized batteries. Then I got the 4-6 week quote and canceled my order. I feel like an idiot for not checking the reviews first."
"I purchased a camera online. I had to call in to confirm my order, which I thought was odd. They tried to get me to buy additional items. later that day, I received an email telling me theat my purchase was out of stock and would take 3 to 4 week to arrive. Between the phone call hard sell with no indication that there was a problem filling my order, and then the back order - I canceled my order via ther web site. We'll see if I have further problems. "
"Please do not be fooled by their low prices and avoid this place as they are a real scam outfit. As with so many others, we fell for this store's scam. They listed the lowest price we could find and claimed "will ship in 1-2 days." So, we ordered a camera from them. After ordering, we received an email that we must call them to confirm the order (the email arrived in those 1-2 days). So, we called and, after identifying the order, the person (Steve at ext. 203) claimed that the camera (a Canon S5 IS) required special batteries. We responded that it does not as it uses standard "AA" batteries and even includes some in the box. Steve claimed that it needed "special AA batteries" that cost $120. We said "no thanks." Then after telling him that, he attempted to sell us an over-priced memory card and then an extended warranty. After saying no thanks to all of that, he then said that the camera would not ship for at least 2-3 weeks. We asked why as their web site says "will ship in one 1-2 days" and he said that “it would have to be ordered after New Years.” That was enough for us and we requested that he cancel the order. During the phone conversation, as soon as we said "no" to all of his high-pressure upsell tactics, we received another email stating the camera was on backorder for 5-6 weeks. We then decided that it was a good idea to also cancel our credit card. A large part of the problem is that the scam starts as soon as you enter a camera model into a search engine such as Google. Those "Shopping Comparison" sites that appear at the top of the search results are part of the scam, listing the scam sites against legit retailers, with the scammers’ prices listed for hundreds of dollars less. They even show a "5 Star rating", which is also part of the scam and run by the same site. Just try to enter a negative rating on the review site (for example: lowpricedigital.com) and you’ll find that it will never appear. That site (lowpricedigital.com) not only lists 86photovideo.com as the lowest price, but also provides them with a five star rating. So please be very careful of price comparison sites such as Everyprice.com or ShopCartUSA.com or lowpricedigital.com since they will show both legit and scam sites side by side, with high ratings for all retailers, which can not be trusted.
On 1/2/08, we filed a complaint with the NY State Office of the Attorney General and recommend that others do the same. You can file a complaint online at:

"I have the same song and dance as everyone else! What crooks. I can't believe they can get away with this. I filed a complaint with the NY General Attorney Office like someone suggested. Hopefully they will get shut down soon."
"I placed the order on 12/9/07. It stated that the product was in stock and usually ships in 1-2 days.On 12/12/07, I receive an email asking me to call "Jason" to "Verify my Order" (3 days later). Basically he wanted to sell me more product. After I did not buy anything else, he said that they were temporally sold out and it would be back in stock and sent after Christmas on 12/28/07. I said that was OK. Then on 12/14/07, I receive another email stating that the camera was "Temporarily Out of Stock" and it would not be available for another 5-6 weeks. All during the month of December the links that they subscribe to shows that the item is in stock and can be received by Christmas (even on 12/22/07).
I find this whole scam highly unethical.

"This store uses a scam with their customers. The scam is that they offer the lowest price available for the item (and they know that because they mention it to you when you call them). Once you place an order, they make you call them. I spoke to a gentleman called Joshua. It is then that they offer you all kinds of OVERPRICED items. When you say no to them, they write you a new e-mail saying that the product you ordered is in back order. I called, just like other people did, I was offered a battery and an extended warranty for $139.00 each. The camera costs $175.00!!! Just like everybody else, a couple of hours later I got the new e-mail saying the camera I had ordered was in back order. However, if you try to place a new order it does say it is AVAILABLE and in stock!!! They get your credit card number and then play this little trick on their customers. I reported them to NY Attorney General as suggested in other complaints found here and I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO THE SAME. IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO DO IT AND THEY NEED TO SEE A PATTERN IN ORDER TO STOP THESE CROOKS. Here is the link to the site:

"I searched online for the lowest price for this camera and came up with 86th street Photo and Video. I should have researched the feedback first. I placed my order and immediately new something was fishy because there was no receipt that you could print with the model and price and no receipt emailed to you. Only a confirmation of a purchase. The following day I recieved the email telling me that I needed to confirm my purchase. Now I new something wasn't right. I went on line and checked the reviews and was horrified. I couldn't do anything because it was christmas and they were closed. On Monday morning I called to confirm and after confirming my address and payment the man on the phone asked me which extra battery I would be purchasing. I said that I didn't need anything else and he said OK you will receive your order in about 2 weeks. I went to check my email a little while later and received an email saying that my camera was on back order for 4-6 weeks and that they would not charge my account until it came in but that I could email them with the order number if I wanted to cancel. I immediately emailed my cancellation. I really don't believe that I ever would have received that camera. I noticed after checking feedbacks that there are several internet electronic companies out of NY that all have the same scam; for all I know they all may have the same owner. Closed on Saturdays and Jewish Holidays. The owners of this company are obviously observant Jews with no conscience when it comes to using unprofessional and unethical sales tactics. As a Jew myself, I say shame on you for giving the rest of us a bad name! I will no longer buy from any internet company without first checking for customer reviews. "
"I wish I read these postings FIRST.
My story is the same. It was the lowest price on the net, then you get an email saying that you need to call to confirm your order so they can TRY to sell you an overpriced accessory. When they don't sell you anything extra, you get an email stating that your item is OUT OF STOCK for 4-6 weeks.
I'm really sorry that they have my credit card number now.

"Wow, I wish I had come here BEFORE I ordered the Sanyo XACTI HD700 from these crooks. The morning after I place my order I got an email saying I needed to call and verify the order. When I called the loser who answered said, this doesn't come with a battery, so you'll need to order a battery. When I told him it DOES come with one he told me I would it didn't. THEIR OWN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION SAYS IT COMES WITH A BATTERY. After arguing about it I asked how much the battery would be. He told me the regular battery was 200 freaking dollars. I said I couldn't afford that much for a battery. He said good bye and hung up. 30 seconds later I got an email from them saying the camera was on backorder for 2-3 weeks. I immediately canceled the order via phone (they wouldn't answer this time so I left a message) and I also cancelled via email. They have not charged my card. Stay away from these guys. I found them through a fake reseller rating website that lists them with a 5 star rating and the lowest price, but don't believe it."
"I ordered a product that was presented as "in stock". Shortly after refusing to buy any accessories with the product I received and email that it wansn't in stock and to wait 2-3. After the time passed I received another email saying it wouldn't be in stock for several more weeks. I phoned in and was told it wouldn't be in stock for several more weeks. I called back and ordered the product and an over priced accessory and was told it would ship next day for delivery in 3-5 days guaranteed. After I called back and exposed their false advertising/bait and switch scheme they notified me via email all orders were cancelled."
"86th Street Photo and Video is the shadiest operation I have ever delt with. They posted a sale price on a Pentax W-30 online for a great price. After placing the order online I received an email stating that they needed me to confirm my order (which was the first red flag)over the phone. During my call 86th Street Photo and Video pressured me to purchase all sorts of extras for my camera, which over doubled my costs and none of which I needed. I refused to give into their sales pitches and confirmed my order. I then received another email stating that my camera was on back-order (4-6 weeks), which I knew was false due to the fact that my friend purchased the over-priced package over a week after me and he had just recieved it. I then called 86th Street Photo and Video to confront them on the issue and I was given a major run-around. I was told that my order did not matter and that I should cancel my order. The person on the phone also stated that the email was under-estimating the time of arrival for the camera and it may be over 4-6 weeks before I get it. He also mentioned that they may not ever get the camera in.....ahhh yea right! He refused to admit that the only reason the camera was so cheap was that they made up the cost by inflating the cost of the package and that they are refusing the sale to me since they will not take a hit on their "deal"! I do not suggest that anyone should deal with these people.....I have never encountered anything like this! "
"Same story here- absolutely unbelievable!!! Ordered a camera because it was a great price and the reviews on their site were great of course. Come to find out- EVERYONE has had a horrible experience with this company. They sent an e-mail saying they needed to verify the order (which was very suspicious- no other company does this) and when I called they asked what kind of battery I wanted. I said- the one that comes with the camera. He said- oh that is a really weak battery. Well the manufacturer claims it takes 400 pics on the battery, I don't call that weak! I told him I didn't want anything extra and he abruptly ended the call and said I would have my camera within 2 weeks. A few minutes later I received an e-mail saying the camera was on back order and in that e-mail were instructions to cancel the order. It is almost like they want you to cancel. I don't get it!!!! So- I did cancel and then filed a complaint with the NY Attorney General- someone a few reviews down has the link on their complaint to do this. I am hoping that my order really is cancelling and will place an order with a reputable company from now on!!!!!"
"I ordered the Garmin Nuvi 350 from 86th Street Photo and Video on December 7, 2007. I received an email from them on December 8 saying they couldn't ship the product until they had talked to me. I received a high-pressure sales call on December 12, pressuring me to purchase additional accessories. The caller first asked whether I was tech-savvy. When I didn't immediately mention my Ivy league PhD, the caller must have assumed no. The caller told me that a special memory card was needed to play the device. I asked whether the memory card was a standard format like the ones used for cameras. I was told no. I was offered a package that included a special 2 GB memory card. I was told my original order was $313 and with the package (including the special memory card) would be $399. I accepted under those conditions.
I was defrauded because:
> it is not true that a special memory card is necessary
> I was sent a 1 GB card, not a 2 GB card
> my final order cost was $419, not $399.
I would have not accepted the offer under these conditions.
The purchased items arrived December 20. I called the merchant on December 21. They first offered me more accessories and I declined. Then they offered a 3 yr warranty, which I declined. Then they refused to give me a RMA without my agreeing to a refund of $340, because of the restocking fee. Their website does describe the refund policy and it does state a 15% restocking fee. I would happily pay the restocking fee if I had returned the product because I changed my mind. However, the merchant did not deal honestly with me. I want to return the product because the merchant failed to deal honestly. My perspective is that the merchant broke the "contract" (including the restocking fee) when their salesperson made misrepresentations about the product.
I took the advice of reviewer roaads5 and filed a complaint with the NY Attorney General."
