" Ordered Canon A720 IS on Jan 9, 2008. On Jan 10 I received confirmation of order and directions to call in to verify order. When I called it was the upsell for memory and Batteries/charger, which I refused. On Jan 11th I received the email saying the camera out of stock and will be drop shipped in 3-4 weeks. I called again on Jan 29th and was told that 86th Street Photo never stocks anything and that everything they sell is drop shipped and that it would be longer than the original 3-4 weeks quoted on the 11th. I then found the reviews (RESELLERRATINGS) and on Feb 3rd I cancelled my order via email and via phone call. Hope it works"

"Ok, well let me add my comments to the cacophony of discontent with these thugs. Ditto what everybody else here is saying –bait and switch. Cannot contact them by phone; constant busy signal. I am filing a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General and the NY state Attorney general. CROOKS!!!!"

"LET'S GET UM' GUYS!!! Ok, so I had a similar experience as most threads on this post. They called to verify CC info and upsold me stuff I didn't need and then quoted a price of $100. more than it should have been. It happen so fast when I got off the phone I knew something wasn't right - I jumped online and found this posting - thanks to all of you - and I was able to cancel my credit card before they got me. BUT - let's stop these BUTTHOLES - I filed a complaint with IC3 - Internet Crime Complaint Center - and plan to file one with the BBB. I hope that ANYONE that reads this or has been scammed by these people will jump online and file a complaint too. Especially if they really got you for some money, I was lucky that they didn't actually get my money, but I also worry that they may not have broken any laws and therefore may not be accountable for anything. So Please please file a complaint, if we make enough noise maybe we can get them off the web!"

"Same thing here, except I called James at ext. 203. I am so frustrated. My son's bday is coming up and I want a camera. It looks like I might be spending more than I wanted, but I refuse to buy the overpriced accessories that I do not need, even if I get a better deal on the camera. Same thing happened from techno photo today. They canceled my order within seconds of me calling which was within a minute of my order. Ughhh!!!"

"I had the same experience as everyone else. Ordered a camcorder, recieved a call to try and sell me overpriced accessories which I declined but was told the item would ship right out. Checked website later, it said backordered and after a couple of weeks of this, I found this site and seen that was all I could expect. I cancelled my order and reordered from a different site AFTER I checked their ratings. This company is a pure scam."

"Jesus, I wish I had seen this site before. I'm not an idiot. I work with technology in education. But I don't know much about gps units, which is why i went to this company--greatest deal on the web. Same as everyone else: you have to confirm with us by phone (well that avoids a internet scam charge). "Clark" tells me "you didn't enter the month on the expiration date of your card." That's when the scam starts, and they are experts. EVERYTHING I was told i needed to by in addition to the gps was a lie (the techie i work with called garmin for me and found out every single thing I was told was untrue). So I call to cancel within the hour. "Clark" submitted the amount to my card (for $99 more than he told me I'd be charged) and got a ups tracking number electronically the minute i stupidly agreed. So I call my card company. Only thing that can be done now is to dispute it, and they send you NO invoice info, not even a total. AND there's a 20% restocking fee. So I can dispute this, wait three months, and still pay $350 for restocking (that's right; i got scammed big time), and go on my trip to europe without a gps unit, or I can accept the scam and in the end be out about $400 (to get the same items, plus the restocking fee, i'm looking at $1300 if I decide to return this and buy elsewhere). I leave for Ireland in 4 weeks. I'm screwed."

"I am a stay at home mother of 3. I have been searching for a replacement digital camera. Needless to say my husband and I were very excited when we found the Cannon we had been searching for a great deal at 86th Street Photo and Video. The price was $75 cheaper than most on-line. Unfortunately, we trusted the ratings on their website and did not do an extensive web search.
Within 3 days of our order I received a phone call to “verify” shipping and credit card information. The gentleman asked if I would be interested in purchasing a memory card or rechargeable batteries. I explained that over the weekend, in my excitement, I already had. He thanked me for my order and said it would be shipped immediately and I would receive it within a week. Oddly enough, my husband received an email not even two minutes later saying our camera was “out of stock” and it would take 3-4 weeks before our camera would be shipped.
Ever the skeptic, I hopped on-line and did a Google search. Sure enough, many others have had this experience. I did give them the benefit of the doubt though, and I sent them an email stating my concerns over what I had found on-line and asked that someone call to help me resolve the issue. No one called, but my husband did receive another email the next day saying our camera wouldn’t be shipped now for 6-8 weeks and they would be happy to cancel our order.
I looked at their website to see if they still had the camera listed as “in-stock”. They did. I then called 86th Street Photo and Video. Once I was able to speak to someone I recognized the voice as the man I had spoken to the previous day. I asked if they had the camera in stock. He said yes and started telling me the features. When I asked why we had received information stating that it was on back order, he said the “sale price” was shipped from overseas, when I asked about the ones in stock he said they had a different warranty and the cost was more than the average $100 over retail in most stores. I told him about the reviews I had read and said I just wanted the camera I ordered in a timely manner. The man asked for my order number. When I gave it to him he said, “I am going to do you a favor *horrible name*, I am cancelling your order because you don’t appreciate a good deal.”
I have never been so poorly and unjustly treated. Not only am I camera less, I have been insulted and have wasted a week on this company. Please, do not make the same mistake I did! DO NOT ORDER from 86th Street Photo & Video.

"I ordered a camcorder from the site at an amazing price. Shortly after ordering I received what seems to be the standard "verification" phone call. Steve told me my item would be shipped that day. Not five minutes later I got an email stating it would be 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, I emailed wondering when the camcorder would arrive and was told in 8 weeks. When I called, I was hung up on and when I sent an email asking why the price had decreased by twenty dollars on the website and was "available for immediate shipping" I was ignored. I canceled my order but will be watching to make sure I'm not billed. "

"I had the same experience as many other reviewers. I placed my order and was told I needed to call and speak with Steve (ext 203) to confirm the order, since my shipping address was different than my billing address.
When I called to confirm the order, "Steve: was very friendly. I ordered the Canon Powershot G9. Steve told me that this camera does not come with a memory stick, and I needed to order a high speed one from him. He was about to start listing out the different option they had, but I told him I was only interested in ordering the camera.
"Steve's" attitude immediately changed and he became hostile. He said "Well, you can't use this camera without ordering one." I know that to be untrue, so I stood my ground. He said he was going to go ahead and process the order, and I should receive it in 2 to 3 weeks.
Minutes later I received an email informing me that the camera was on backorder for 3-4 weeks.

I immediately canceled my order. DO NOT ORDER FROM 86TH STREET PHOTO AND VIDEO. They try to rip you off by selling you extremely overpriced and unnecessary accessories.

"Two words... SCAM ARTISTS!!! Do not buy from this merchant. I consider myself lucky that very early on in the process I got the sense that something was very wrong with this merchant and I was able to get out of the deal with minimal hassle. Well, at least I think I have gotten out of the deal... Based on what I have been reading here, I'll watch my credit card statements very carefully for a few months..."
