"Abebooks and Calitexts are a joke, I ordered my books on Marh 17th, 2008 and still haven't received my package(4/1/08). At the time of ordering my books I was informed it would arrive in 4-8 days which I gladly paid for. Later I received an email noting that it would take up 10 days to receive the books, I stll haven't received the books and ABEBOOKS is currently ignoring my emails. They haven't show any professionalism as they have basically left me stranded. There is no phone number to contact ABEBOOKS as well. My classes have started and I am without a book, thanks ABEBOOKS and Calitexts."
"I didn't read reviews before using Abebooks or I would have thought twice but I guess I am one of the lucky ones. My book arrived from the States to Canada in two weeks with no problems. I was pleasantly surprised. Bookseller was Elistics which probably makes a big difference in whether a customer is satisfied or not through Abebooks."
"I've ordered from Abe Books many times over the years and have always been completely satisfied. So, imagine my surprise at what happened with one of their sellers, Jabo Books of Sleepy Eye, MN. I'm writing now because I've seen a very similar review on this site, also naming Jabo Books. My order in mid-October 2007 was acknowledged and charged promptly, but at the end of November the book had still not arrived. I contacted Jabo Books through the Abe Books site and received a prompt one-line reply with what turned out to be just an excuse, no book. After another month and a half I tried again, using the e-mail address I'd received from the seller. Another one-line excuse, no book. Finally I wrote to Jabo Books again, asking for a refund so I could buy another copy of the book from a different seller. Reply: a promise to refund my money -- but no refund. OK, so I'll eat that. But I'm glad I have found this site so that I can warn others, DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM JABO BOOKS. As for Abe Books, with this one exception I have found them an excellent site and will order from them again (but will pay more attention to name of seller). "

"I've ordered 2 books from abebooks and used extra fast shipping so that I could get them faster because I needed them as soon as possible. "calitexts" who is the seller shipped my books (from order status in abebooks website). He shipped from San Jose in CA and I live in CA as well (about 1 hour from LA). It wouldn't take too long to deliver to my address. Right now, it takes 8 business days that are the longest time it should be and I never get the books. I don't know if I'll get the books but abebooks told me I have to wait 7 days more to get my money back. I don't have that much time to wait before I buy new books. Last time my friend ordered books from abebooks and never got the books also. I'll never use abebooks again. "
"this order went really well for me. good email on payment received, shipping, etc. ordered on friday arrived on monday.
Bookseller: Daniel Montemarano
thanks Dan!"
"For those who want/need to call AbeBooks to complain or to notify of erros, their phone number is: 1-***-***-****"
"I have ordered from Abe before, but never again. I recently ordered a history book that I needed for class and promptly received a calculus book! The seller was Book Smart of Chicago. No contact info available, no phone number anywhere, no response to email inquiries from either Abe or Book Smart. I finally found a number for Abe and called them only to find that they will credit the amount back to me WHEN they receive the book! I now have to mail a book I didn't want just to get my money back? I don't think so. I have protested the charge with my bank because the seller won't respond. Abe made no offer to ship the correct book or intervene with the seller. There are other options for purchasing books. Abe won't be my option in the future."
"This site has worked for me in the past, but because of this experience I will never order from abebooks again.
I brought a book and paid a total of $47.49 for a textbook I needed for college on Dec. 16th. Estimated arrival time was on or before Dec. 28th.
By the time I had to leave home for college, Sunday Jan 6th, the book had STILL not arrived. I contacted the seller (Datanetbooks) and they stated that it was due to the holidays and the book would arrive next week, and they'd be willing to give me a refund WHEN THEY RECEIVE THE BOOK since I needed it for class on Monday and had to buy another copy.
So I believed them and told my parents to send the book back as soon as it arrived. WELL THE BOOK NEVER DID ARRIVE YET and the week has just passed as today is Sat. Jan 12th.
It's really frustrating because I am dealing with almost 50 dollars and for a college student needed textbooks every quarter at a private university that is a lot!
I'd better get all my money back VERY SOON or I will be filing a complaint with the National Better Business Bureau. "
"Ordered book through web site from merchant. Item came pretty fast considering it was from out of country. Very good price. Never have any problems with buying through this web site. Been buying for awhile and getting good deals. Will buy from again."
"I bought a book from "NPG Books LLC calverton, NY U.S.A" through abebooks. The new book arrived in 10 days.
They responded my questions but wouldn't give more information on the item. Granted it was new, the book was a bit bent and slightly scratched all over the covers when I received it. It could have been a shipping problem or it could have a been a pretty worn book that was just never bought by anyone. Either way, that was not compete satisfactory for me.
Would think twice if buying from abebooks."
"Awful place.
I first made a purchase with a seller that had "5 star rating"
My book didn't come, my e-mails were unanswered.
I went to return the book only to find that according to their web site rules, I have to wait for 30 days to file a refund request.
30 days down the road, return request filed, I am sent an automated email saying that I have to wait for another 7 days and in case the seller provides a tracking number, I won't get to roll it back.
I want to get that seller a 0-star rating, but there is no way to rate a seller!
THis place is just nuts. Don't buy there, especially if you need a text book and need it soon."
"This is the worst website I've ever used. No confirmation of the order, no tracking info of the shipment,...there's no any feedback at all after they charged my credit card. I contacted both the seller and the website for multiple times, nobody ever answered my question.
Avoid this place to make your life easier."
"It said my order will arrive before Sept.30, 2007. But I still not get the book. This is a trap website. Don't trust it. Amazon.com is the best and honest. "
"I have had about 5 purchasing experiences with AbeBooks and have had all books arrive in a timely manner and in the condition as described on the website. The only unsatisfying purchase was with my most recent one from Jabo Books. As a previous reviewer noted, I received no answer to my emails and no one picked up the phone or even acknowledged Jabo Books on the voice mail. However, I soon discovered that the phone number that was listed by the previous reviewer is actually the wrong one for Jabo and ends up with some poor Sleepy Hills native who has received hundreds of phone calls for Jabo Books. Once I located the correct Jabo Books phone number ***-***-****, the lady was very helpful in assisting me and promised a refund if my book was not found promptly.
I have found that in nearly all cases, great customer service can be found if one is courteous and understanding. Not that there is never an occasion for getting angry, but having worked on the receiving end of customer service, I know that representatives will more likely bend over backwards for a customer with whom they feel empathy than one who is being a jerk. That's my two cents."
