"I will never buy from Abe again. They have allowed a seller to get away with fraud in charging 11x the price of a still in print book. The seller PROFESSIONAL BOOKSTORE located in BEVERLY HILLS, CA charge $176 for a book available in my local campus bookstore for $15.95. Abe and the seller have refused to issue a refund. Thankfully my professor for the class is a lawyer and he's getting the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau and the American Bar Association's editor of the book involved. PROFESSIONAL BOOKSTORE are SCAM operation and Abe is an extremely unprofessional host site for allowing this to happen. Will NEVER buy anything from them ever again and will do everything in my power to try to stop this fraud from happening again. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!!"

"On December 30th I placed my first-ever order for a textbook from BOOKSMART in Chicago through AbeBooks. The price was very attractive, but unfortunately I didn't check out any reviews beforehand. Now I know better. My card was charged $55.25 on January 2nd and I received confirmation from AbeBooks that the order was processed and I would receive the book by January 11th. On January 14th I emailed BOOKSMART for a tracking #. They sent it with apologies that the book must be lost. I immediately checked the USPS website to find out what the status "Electronic Shipping Info Received" meant, and realized they hadn't even shipped my book! I then emailed BOOKSMART back with this info. and demanded an immediate refund or I would be filing a complaint for mail fraud with the USPS, Better Business Bureau and the Illinois Attorney General's Office. They have never responded. I also sent AbeBooks an email with a copy of my correspondence with BOOKSMART, and they promptly responded that they would investigate, asking me to give them 2 business days. They have since responded that they have received no response from BOOKSMART, and this morning they emailed again and said they were processing a refund to my credit card. So, if they follow through, I have no problem with AbeBooks. So far they've responded in a professional manner. However, I caution everybody to STAY AWAY FROM BOOKSMART! Oh, and yes, I have filed the complaints, and urge everyone else to follow through when you're cheated. Otherwise these people will continue to get away with thievery."

"I to wish I had come across these reviews before my last purchase with Abebooks. They have made it increasingly difficult to dispute an order. In my recent purchase of a Quantitative business statistics book, I asked the seller, Worlddiscountedbooks, Ashburn, VA, U.S.A., 20147, to cancel my order immediately after i received my confirmation email because it now indicated it was going to take 45 days to come from Virginia to Ohio. They replied and said it would take 12 business days, which was still long but well before my class started today Oct. 20th.. Well on day 13 i sent an email and have not heard anything back since, i sent one more this past Friday and still nothing. Im am infuriated, I leave for class as soon as i am done here. "

"I ordered a Text book at abebooks and the book seller was "Worlddiscountedbooks Ashburn, VA", the book was never received. Writing multiple inquiry emails to the book seller always got the response indicating to wait for 2 or 3 days to receive the book, but 30 days past my order book was never received and the book seller stopped responding to my emails. I Contacted the abebook customer-service, they indicated to wait for 45 working days after the order. What the heck 45 working days to recieve a book, in 45 working days my semester will be over, I responded about that to abebooks but they stopped responding to my emails. Hell with Abebooks & Worlddiscountedbooks, raised a credit-card dispute for the charge and I ordered the book in Amazon and received it in 3days (which I should have done earlier instead of ordering at abebook). Now waiting for my credit charge to reverse through my cc-company.
******NEVER BUY BOOK AT ABEBOOKS/ Worlddiscountedbooks, they are not reliable and you will loose your money ******************* If I had seen these reviews (with 3/10 rating) about abebooks earlier, I would have never used Abebooks website.
Finally got the refund after fighting it through my creditcard company, but it was a pain, so I don't recommend.

"Don't use Abebooks.com to buy books!

I placed an order for a book on organic chemistry from a seller listed in the UK. The book came from China and surprise! Not only was it late, it was in Chinese!

I immediately contacted the seller who by the website's guidelines had to issue a refund within 30 days of shipping--a window I was still within.

The seller refused. I contacted Abebooks.com's customer service and they said to return the book to an address in the UK. So I did--had to spend $20 to get it back through customs.

It came back as undeliverable. The address didn't exist.

Abebooks said it would contact the seller and help resolve the issue. They have yet to get back to me. I was forced to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Abebooks keeps reissuing the charge however. So as of now, I am out $85 and still have possession of a book I cannot use.

Do yourself a favor. Go buy your books at Amazon.

"I did not make a purchase I sold them books!
I listed my books online and noticed their payment price.
The prices ranged form $.88 to over $5.00.
The total came to $32.00.
They provided a shipping label.

Sent my books, they emailed the books had no value. Even the $5.00 book, they were now offering $.13.
They are located in Cols Ohio, near me.
I emailed that I will pick up my books.
They responded that no one was allowed on the premises due to insurance!!
Didn't want to go in, just to the door to get my books.
They refuse!
Beware of this place.
They promise a price, send a label then refuse to pay. They won't let you pick up your books that have NO value to them.
You have to pay for shipping to get your own books back.
They only pay to get your books....that's it.
You will never see any money.
I'm turning they into Consumer Fraud and the Better Business Bureau.
This place is criminal!!

"I have order about 20 books from Abebooks. All have been delivered on time except one which was a little on the late side but fell within the 7 -14 day shipping time. So I can't really complain. This latest order worried me since I found these reviews after - but each of my books came - the first one being from Wonderbooks,MD which got a bad review from an overseas buyer in this review site. I even found a place on the Abebooks site for free shipping and got each of these 6 books for under $4. "

"I was completely satisfied. The order was confirmed almost immediately. The 3-to-4-day shipping option was as advertised: I got it the third business day including the day I submitted the order (so 2 days after the day of order). The tracking number gave me the information hoped for. The book was in as-promised condition."

"My problem is not with AbeBooks, but rather with one of their booksellers: JABO BOOKS (SLEEPY EYE, MN). I purchased a set of books, which never arrived. The bookseller keeps saying that they will do a refund, but it's always one excuse after another, one lie after another. DO NOT EVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM JABO BOOKS!!! They are liars and cheaters."
