"My first purchase from AVADirect: a dual Opteron 16 CPU 32 core 512 GB RAM 12TB RAID5 4GB CUDA machine for neuroscience data analysis. The machine arrived and we unpacked it and had it running in a few minutes. No problems at all so far, custom partitioned with Linux Mint. We've only had it about 10 days, and so far so good, pushing all cores 10 100% with MATLAB.

The only PITA was a slow delivery--but nobody's fault at AVA, a flaky motherboard took a while to diagnose and replace. I'd rather wait for a great and stable machine than get a bad one quickly.

"My i5 desktop is nearly 3 years old and it has been a great machine. Only one serious problem - power supply blew up after about a year. Kind of blame myself because I custom spec'd just about everything in the box EXCEPT the supply.

I have made one tweak to the machine, adding a small SSD as a boot drive and this has made it even better. I'm not a gamer but I am a heavy user with two monitors and usually lots of programs open. The machine is very quick and reliable.

As far as what I love about AVA, when you order you can take a base configuration or you can swap components for more/less expensive replacements to get your dollars to focus on the areas that are important to you. And these are not generic selections like "1.5TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive." They are very specific components such as "WESTERN DIGITAL, 1.5TB WD Caviar® Black™ (WD1501FASS), SATA 6Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache." You know EXACTLY what is going into your machine as if you were buying and assembling yourself.

Something you don't get when you do your own assembly is a 3-year warranty on the whole machine, but you do get that from AVA. I did have a small problem with this when my power supply blew - AVA would not cross-ship a new supply. As it turns out, since I realized the supply I had was not a great one, I purchased a better supply and put it in while waiting for the AVA replacement. When the replacement came, I just sold it on eBay to help pay for the new one.

I have referred several friends to AVA and I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the market."

"I found this site by searching for custom computers on Google, and after reading the reviews on here, it seemed like a good bet. It was.

I didn't feel their prices were particularly low, but based on what a friend of mine spent to order similar parts elsewhere and build his own, I'd say their prices are certainly reasonable.

Took a little over 2 weeks to ship (which is what it says on their site. Shipping costs seem reasonable, although I think from a marketing perspective they'd be better off just figuring that cost into their prices and offering free shipping (ground of course, with extra charges for faster shipping).

Packaging was fantastic, I really liked the foam insert that was inside the computer. It actually forms to the shape of the inside of the computer to protect the parts and prevent them from coming loose.

Their website could use a bit of a makeover (strictly for looks, it's surprisingly functional and works great otherwise). Responses through their website forum are fast and courteous.

All in all, I'd say it was a very good experience and I'm very happy with my purchase.

"Very pleased with the product and the company. Assembled very well and the standard custom wiring is exceptional. My only negative comment is that a component (a case) listed as low stock was actually not in stock. In order to get the case I wanted I had to pay a bit extra to get it as a special order. So before placing an order I would suggest contacting them directly as opposed to relying on the webpage for availability for low stock components. I used their messaging system for the entire transaction and it worked out well with quick responses from customer service. I was very surprised to receive the PC faster than expected even with the special order case. "

"After a couple of weeks of window shopping through Newegg, amazon, Doghouse Systems, Digital Storm, Alienware/Dell I found AVADirect through a link I believe. I was instantly amazed at all the choices of hardware and many different configurations of Machines they had to offer. From tiny laptops up to large machines that look like they should be on the set of some sci-fi movie. Customer service is on the ball, I placed my order and the next morning I had a message from Joe Mundy that the type of ram I chose would not fit under my CPU cooler and quickly helped me remedy the situation. I had to wait a few extra days to receive my order, no fault of AVAs. The SSD I ordered was not in stock at the moment. No biggie, I'm patient and it was so worth the wait! This thing is a beautiful beast. The insides are so clean looking and their wire management is great,not one dangler,lol. Overall I am super satisfied with my 3200 dollar gaming monster that giggles at everything i throw at it. For instance, running AC4 all settings ultra, Itunes, Chrome in the background and skype all at once and doesn't skip a beat. But this Is not about my PC, its about AVADirect and what a great company they are. "This is a great company to work with. Everything from ordering to delivery was smooth. Sales person is friendly and knowledgeable. He was very responsive and showed great attention to my needs. I have received the system even earlier than it was promised. Build quality is excellent. They included reports for all burn-in tests they performed.
