I demand a lot from my systems. I'm a software architect, I do a lot of high definition video and picture editing, and I play high-end games. As a result, the systems most major vendors sell just aren't good enough. At the same time, resellers who specialize in high-end gaming systems often inflate their specifications (and thus their prices) to the point of being ludicrous.

Many years ago, when I realized this, I tried building my own systems. The problem? Because I didn't build systems on a regular basis, I couldn't keep up with all the changes and building a system ended up costing me too much time.

I then tried resellers who specialized in high-end, custom builds. Sometimes this worked and sometimes it didn't. I got burned a few times and when I looked this time, I couldn't find a reseller with enough positive reviews to make me comfortable. As a result, despite the time investment, I decided to build my own system. Just as I was about the pull the trigger, a friend recommended AVA Direct.

=====| Placing the Order & AVA's Customer Service
I configured a system via their Website and found that their price for a fully assembled machine was $40 LESS (yes, less!) than the price of the individual components I had chosen. That got my attention, so I checked their reviews, and they were universally phenomenal. I decided to give them a shot.

I ordered my system on 10/20, a Sunday. It was a custom built gaming PC with the Intel i7-4820K quad core 3.7-3.9 GHz processor, 16 GB of 1866 MHz DDR3 RAM, a 250 GB solid state drive and a 1TB SATA drive, and a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 4GB DDR5 graphics card.

The very next day, Joe Mundy wrote a note against the order indicating that the high profile RAM I had selected wouldn't fit on the motherboard with the CPU cooler I had selected. He additionally identified that I had mistakenly selected 2400 MHz RAM but the processor could only handle 1866 MHz RAM (overclocking notwithstanding).

Joe is incredible. He understood every nuance of the system, was very articulate, and explained everything very concisely. Now. . . I have been around the block a few times and have had plenty of customer service experiences. This experience was, without a doubt, the best customer service I have experienced in my entire life.

Joe updated my order after our conversation (10/22), and AVA built it, burn-in tested the machine, and shipped it on 10/30, just over one week after we agreed on the configuration! FedEx attempted delivery on 11/1 but I wasn't home. I received the machine on 11/2.

The system, in a word, SCREAMS! I'm loving it. Of course, only time can tell how reliable the system is, but so far, I couldn't be happier!

AVA Direct has restored my faith in high-end computer resellers, and I very sincerely hope they're here to stay.
