Agoda.com has the worst cancellation policies and they are not industry standard cancellation policies.
Ex., book a hotel and the Priceline/Agoda online cancellation policy (on the hotel booking page) is cancellation is free if done '24 hours before Check-in'. The hotel Check-in is 3:00pm CST. Therefore, most travelers would assume that cancellation could be done 24 hours prior (prior day) to day of arrival at 3:00pm. (Arrival/Check-in on 1/3/2022 at 3:00pm, free cancellation on 1/2/2022 before 3:00pm)
Not on Agoda. If you dive deep into their cancellation verbiage it's actually 48 hours before the day of arrival/3:00pm Check-in. (Before 12:00AM/midnight on 1/1/2022)

"Here is my very bad experience with AGODA.COM.
I booked a hotel room, 1 day before arrival, because I couldn't find any free rooms by google, hotelscombined, trivago, others 20 OTAs etc.
On the arrival day, I was in the plane and I got an e-mail that the booking was canceled by me???
I didn't want to cancel and even a cancellation was not possible, because in that time time I didn't have internet access in the plane.
I tried to check-in and hotel couldn't find any reservation on my name. People from the reception are wondering, why Agoda sold me a room at time, when the hotel didn't offer any free rooms.
It seems the selling mechanism of Agoda works not good and needs radical renovations.
I called Agoda immediately via expensive roaming and Agoda Support couldn't say a magic word "sorry" and didn't offer my any compensation, other good hotel or any other solution.
I lost money after several roaming calls with Agoda Support and I took a taxi to search for another hotel.
After e-mail exchange Agoda support has confirmed that my booking was canceled not by hotel, it was canceled by Agoda.
They tried to lie me, the Agoda arguments were that they sent me an e-mail before cancellation, was no reaction from my site and Agoda has canceled the room.
Anyway I couldn't find this mail.
Even later no words "sorry for our mistake" or any compensation like a simple voucher etc.
This is not end of this story, when I asked Agoda support if they will charge me for the room they promised me, don't worry, my credit card will be not charged.
That was lie number 2!
Next day I have seen on my credit card account that I was charged by:

It took more than 2 weeks, several mails and calls with Agoda support that I got this money back.
Agoda support didn't want to refund me the money, because was cancelled by me, but this was not true.

You don't know how good or bad a booking service is until things go wrong. Here is my case: I booked appts. in Nuremberg, Germany month before arrival, paid the full price. Just four days before arrival I got message from property owner saying I have to deposit 200 euro as "damages deposit". At this point I can't cancel my booking and get refund as I am not in cancelation free period. The info about deposit was NOT stated either in description or while check out. So this will happen to you completely out of blue. I called support for the case, explained everything but they said they assist me with anything. I contacted property owner and they said THEY NEVER HEARD OF Agoda. Can you believe that? It turns out Agoda acts like a middleman only and they book appts. on your behalf through other services for a fee (like Booking.com in my case). What a great business model though! AND if anything goes wrong you will be left with nothing. Agoda will tell to contact property owner. Property owner will say they don't know Agoda. You will be left with nothing like I was. I lost my money. Never use this service again.

They charge higher commission than any other agent, but they undercut the other online agents and even pay up with their own money.
For example: When I sell my rooms for 800 THB/night on every online platform the same, Agoda will through in some "vouchers" and only charge 513 THB/night. This is 150 THB/night less then what we even get paid from Agoda, so they are literally paying from their own pocket in order to steel customers from Booking.com or Expedia. Dirty Game, Agoda!!!
When asked about it, they don't care and so we do not sell rooms on Agoda any longer.

"I have been a loyal customer in Agoda for more than 8 years and never had an issue until today. On the day I arrived, the room I booked was very noisy so I had to request to cancel the booking. I spoke with the front desk and was told to contact Agoda. When I had a chat with the agent, he called the property to verify if it's true and he was given the go signal by the property to cancel my booking. Unfortunately, they will not refund my money and will only issue a credit. So I talked to the front desk again and they showed me a room that's a bit far from the noise. I told the Agoda agent to book me for another room from the same property instead. He said he can't do new bookings. I said, it's not a new booking but a downgrade.
His reply "Also, the property has agreed to cancel this full booking and they have expected you to
leave due to your complaint. If you wish to stay on the same property, kindly coordinate
with them so you will be relocated to another room and we will keep your booking. Please clarify if you wish to cancel this booking and leave the property."

Once I select correct dates I make the payment.
When the confirmation comes through to my email, it has different dates from what I selected.
Then I contact Agoda and they refuse to refund or amend.
This has happened to me twice now. Trust me, their online system is rigged to SCAM MODE.

"Beware of Agoda exchange rates! I booked 4 reservations for Australia. 3 of the 4 bookings were correctly charged with the prevailing exchange rate. The last one I have been trying to get Agoda to explain why suddenly their exchange rates increased (AUD to USD), despite the other three bookings were pretty consistent with the world exchange rates. I understand that exchange rates change hourly/daily, but the difference in rate within a 9 day period for one reservations against the other three doesn't make any sense. Despite providing 3 exchange rate sources and a source that they claim to be using (Bloomberg), they could not articulate the reasons why and kept on going back to the same nonsense explanation that exchange rates change daily. Their customer service is nice, but is robotic in their response without addressing my questions. Needless to say, be very careful when booking with Agoda and using conversion international rates. You might end up with a hefty additional cost when they go to charge. "
"I recently booked a hotel through Agoda.com and had a terrible customer service experience and will not use them again. My booking was for FLEXSTAY INN Shirogane in Tokyo Japan.
I was charged as a NO SHOW because I had received an email from FLEXSTAY stating “We're sorry, but your request cannot be approved at this time“ and therefore I did not show up to the hotel and booked elsewhere. As I had just been on a 10 hour flight and was going through customs in Japan when receiving the email, I needed to book somewhere else without investigating or phoning as to why “my request could no be approved.” The next day I received a NO SHOW email from Agoda and I emailed them to explain that I received an email from the hotel and therefore didn’t stay at that location.
Agoda then said they are “merely a booking platform” and that I would have to deal with the hotel and that Agoda could not help me. I then contacted the hotel and asked why I was charged as a NO SHOW when I was emailed by FLEXSTAY saying “We're sorry, but your request cannot be approved at this time.” According to the hotel they had meant I could not have a non smoking room after the fact but had not mentioned this in the original email.
I explained to Agoda my situation and each email came from a different customer service agent who said they could not help me as Agoda has a NO SHOW policy and that they are just a booking site. Agoda also stated “We also get your frustration because we are customers as well aside from being one of the teams here in Agoda.”
Finally Agoda stated “Please note that this decision mainly came from the hotel and we at Agoda do not have any control over their decision.”
I would not recommend using Agoda as a booking website as there customer service is terrible and they do not try to help make things right for customers."
