"Worst service ever! Ive been working in retail for 5 years now and worked customer service and as a sales rep never treated a customer like they have treated me. My complaint is not about thier usual exspensive s&h but an issue reguarding them over the phone, everytime i call they answer by just saying "allied". And not there name or department or how can i help you"? So after explaining that i did not recieve all items in my order, the rep snickers, gets my order # and transfers me to someone else who eventualy after waiting 10-20mins hangs up on me! I eventualy talk to someone though who tells me that he is going to do a "wave check just for the hell of it" and takes my phone number to call me back the next morning i waited till 3 pm U.S. eastern time and got nothing from them. Tried calling again and like a broken record the cycle begins all over again.
I understand people make mistakes but these are no mistakes, just workers who dont care.

"Allied's shipping costs are geared toward people who buy more than 50 cents worth of stuff.

I ordered about $50 worth of IR leds and photo transistors and supporting stuff on Tuesday, Sept 6, 2011. It arrived before noontime on Friday! And I wasn't paying for special shipping. Allied had the order pulled and shipped the same day I submitted it. I've ordered from Allied before and had the same sort of service. I don't buy a lot of electronics stuff these days, but Allied is where I go when I do. Shipping was $10.65 - not the cheapest I've ever seen. But there was a fairly heavy power transformer in there. My alternative source locally would be Fry's electronics where I could have paid $3 and up each for IR leds instead of "

"I'm surprised these guys are still in business on how fraudelent they are. My order was for 50 cents plus $5 handling and $12.26 shipping. They purposely don't put their shipping costs on your order until they actually send you the Shipping notice. I didn't think I needed to check out the reviews on a big company, but wow! Crazy."

"Very very expensive shipping and handling. I bought 3 small electrical connectors that probably weighed 6 ounces or less combined. I picked the faster 2 day UPS shipping, which on their shipping estimator appeared to cost around $13. Today I got the shipping notice and the final bill, I was charged $19.31 for shipping, plus ANOTHER $5 for handling. $13 of product and $25+ in shipping cost.

"Didn't even get a chance to order because the woman who answered the "help" line was completely rude and has no knowledge of her products. The moment I told her I had a question about a product she responded that they "don't give technical support". I said I was just wondering if they had a certain product. She told me to "go to the website". I told her I was actually on the website but I have a question anyway which led me to being interrogated about WHO told me to call them, WHY did they tell me to call them and WHY I would think they could help me. Uh.. Maybe because this is your "HELP" line?! Honestly, I'm still in kind of in shock at what just happened... moving on."

The small battery that I bought was about $3.46 and their handling charge was $5. So I thought this was reasonable.

But at the time of check out, they didn't include the shipping charge. Instead, they put a fine note saying that shipping charge was not include.

Then, later when they ship the product, they charged $9.56 for shipping. Just a few small batteries! This is ridiculous. I'll never buy anything from this company.

"I ordered a small super capacitor from Allied Electronics a few days ago and I have to say that I am not happy with their service at all. Similar to the previous reviewer the part I ordered was only $1.25 to start, but cost me over $16 after their overinflated tax, handling, and shipping.

First was the $5 handling charge for not meeting their $25 minimum, then more in taxes than I paid for the part... and to top it all off around $9.50 for shipping!!! For a part smaller than the nail on my pinky finger! The whole package weighed an amazing 0.2lbs. I asked the UPS driver who delivered it and he said it should have cost around $5 for the company to ship...

I think worse than the charges themselves was the fact that the website couldn't even tell me how much I was going to be charged total! The checkout page only lists the price of the product and handling and states that tax and shipping "need to be calculated manually". Needest to say I never expected another $10.

I will not buy from Allied ever again, should have stuck with Mouser!"

"$2.38 of electronics items, was charged $1.43 in sales tax. I was told that this Texas company is collecting sales tax for Washington state, but their computation of 8.6% was also collected for shipping which isn't taxed in Washington state.

Then I was charged $9.24 for shipping (ground 5-7 days UPS), of which I was told $1.24 was for insurance on my $2.38 purchase, which I didn't request. The shipping charges are supposed to be actuals, so the cost isn't available at checkout. However the default choice is UPS, and they make a point of refusing to use USPS tracking.

There was of course $5 in handling this charge was actually listed quite prominently on the order. So it ended up costing me $18.05 for an order of less than $2.50. The parts weigh maybe 3 ounces.

When the regional WEB representative called me back he was quite willing to justify and dispute the necessity of the sales tax, (which is the complaint I started and ended with, given his viewpoint) even going to far as to be willing to have me talk to accounting. I don't think I can afford to continue shopping at Allied Electronics. "

"Good catalogue selection, and it seems no minimum order amount or "handling" fees. However they still will not tell you what the shipping charges are online. You have to trust them. What may have started just as poor online software with no database about size/ weight/ special handling, now seems to have become an affectation with Allied.

Their charges indeed may be just their cost for shipping. However several dimensions are not obvious to customers. How many warehouses/ shipments are required? What charges for special handling?

At least pay close attention to the tiny icons in the product descriptions, which Allied describes at

"I recently placed my first order with Allied Electronics. My order shipped the following business day, and my order arrived well-packaged two days later.

However, I found two pitfalls with Allied.

The first problem is they don't tell you the shipping cost until after your order has shipped, although they claim they only charge their actually shipping costs. I ordinarily would not place an order without knowing the order total, but I foolishly decided to give it a shot with Allied. I ordered an item for approximately $20, which had a gross shipping weight of less than half a pound. I elected to have my item shipped via UPS second-day service, which I thought would be reasonably priced.
