"My $199 premium ad was up for a week and I got 3 contacts all from scammers off Boat Trader. I reported the scam contacts to Boat Trader and heard nothing. During that same period my free ad on Craigslist produced 3 legit leads and I sold to one of them all cash almost full asking. I called Boat Trader to ask for a refund, even spoke to a manager, and they were very defensive and would not give a refund. Buyer beware!"
"I paid for 12 week advertisement to sell my boat on boattrader.com After 8 hours,
I went to check up on it, and found that I could not log on boattrader.com to revise my advertisement.
A link that was sent to me via email from Boattrader.com takes me to boattrader.com website and a pop up screen appears asking for email address.
Regardless of entering email, or trying to close the pop up screen, the pop up screen does not close.
This problem is consistent on my work computer, Iphone and home computer. I called boattrader.com and Melisa was on the other line. Melisa tells me that there is no problem, and the problem lies with me. After lengthy discussion and realizing Melisa had no clue or was simply lying, I asked for refund and to cancel this as it hasn't even been 1 day and the service they were providing did not add up at all.
This is when Melisa tone changed. She refused, and when I asked for her full name and her manager, she refused that those are private information and she does not have manager. I told Melisa, you have my full name, address, credit card - who am I even talking to?
I filed a claim with PayPal, and will file another claim with Visa.
For me this was a terrible experience and an expensive lesson of losing 199$ for a scam service off internet.
Please be aware and don't fall victim to this scam!"
"Didn't get one legitimate response from my Ad. Called for help and they just told me be patient"
"I bought the most expensive premium listing service and did not receive any calls at all for my boat. $195 down the drain"
"Everything about dealing with BoatTrader is a pain starting with placing the listing. My Young 20 is a custom boat and therefore the manufacturer isn't listed even though there are is at least one other Young boat listed. As others have written you then have to choose "CUSTOM" and subsequently request that "customer service" (an oxymoron for this clown barn) change the category. After 10 days I tried to find out the number of views that my premium listing had received. That entails a request to customer service. Instead of advising me immediately to submit my request after 28 days I invested time in an email and phone call only to find out the data isn't available. It is not a coincidence that close to 30 people have left reviews and BoatTrader's average ranking is ONE star. It should be ZERO stars."
"Paid to list our boat, the model ( although it is a popular manufacturer!) was no listed...Was instructed to 'call in' and give them the name of the boat after I paid ( more time wasted). Did so, including providing detailed info on spelling..Checked ad when I received notice that it was expiring, and turn out it was never listed. Simply said "CUSTOM". called in to express frustration, was treated with such disrespect by not only service rep, but 'manager' who actually hung up on me. Honestly, not worth the listing, too many competitors that would actually appreciate the business."
"I have bought and sold boats through boat trader in the past, so I thought I would try them again. Placed the ad, and uploaded the photos. When the ad went online, I could find my listing, but couldn’t get contact information or details of the boat. When I clicked on the ad, it sent me to a generic page listing new boats. Called customer service, and they blamed it on the browser I was using. So I guess that’s why I’ve gotten no calls or inquiries in the week it’s been running. Worthless customer service and website. "
"Terrible experience with listing my boat on boat trader BY OWNER. The boat was listed they said when it WAS NOT. I never received any emails to edit my listing. When i called 1800 boat trader phone number they continued to say look at your account following day and the listing will be live under your account. IT was never listed. I called MARISSA the manager today and got absolutely no where with her. Terrible attitude and continued to blame me for the issue. DO NOT list your ad again with boat trader look under the other reviews under me. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Thank you marissa for wasting an hour of my time today."
"They took my money and then didn't list the boat and it didn't show up in my account. I called them to fix it and they took an additional 4 days to fix the issue and post the boat. By then I had already sold it. When I asked for a partial or full refund they told me once they had my money they would never give it back. Don't use this service, it is terrible!"
"Tried to put up add at the $199 price. got the page done and tried to load it. No luck it would not take the pictures. Called in and was told to list without pictures and add them after the add was running. Did this with only one picture and it loaded. got on my site and tried to load the rest of the pictures. Still it would not load, so I called in again. Was told to send the pictures in by email and they would load for me. this is a job, but I did it as they said. Hours later no pictures I sent were loaded. They did take my money prompt the $199 for 12 weeks and unlimited pictures. They also started my 12 weeks of running time countdown. At this point I did not get what I bargained for. 1 picture is not unlimited, so I feel they breached the contract already. After reading all the bad reviews and finding out they will not give refund past 24 hours, I will now ask for that refund. We will see how they respond and how my credit card company will handle it. "
"My ad was listed with an unknown phone number. the Ad was for 2 weeks and was $59.
Obviously, I did not receive any inquiries. I called and informed them and they refused to give
me credit or run the ad for 2 more weeks with the correct phone number.
HOrrible customer service."
"This site has issues which make it useless. If there was a Zero star rating available, I would have selected that. It hangs up after two pic views and you're all done. Use Craiglist or PopYachts. They actually work. Calling hours for BoatTrader will be announced soon. Arrangements are being handled by Irate Customer Funeral Services."
"I called and renewed my add on 4/02/2018, which was originally created 8/2017. During that time I had one legitimate inquiry and several other phone calls (20+) from 3rd parties wanting to sell my boat for me...Note: I went in knowing I might not receive many calls due to the time of year. That same day (4/02/2018), I also created a Craigslist ad, which I was able to locate via search almost immediately. The BoatTrader rep told me it would be a few hours until my ad would be back up, so I waited until the next day to review it. I received a call regarding the Craigslist ad the next morning (4/03); I met them that evening and sold my boat.
When I returned home, I got online to cancel both ads and discovered my BoatTrader ad still wasn't available; nor was it available under "My Boats for Sell." This morning (4/04/2018) I called to see if BoatTrader would (1) stop or refund the payment, and (2) explain why my ad still was not available. I was quickly transferred to a manager (Maritza), whom attempted to tell me that my ad wasn't showing up due to a cookies issue on my end; even after I explained that I attempted to review it via multiple devices. She then went on to inform me that they could not cancel/refund my payment due to the fact that I did not request the cancellation within 24 hours. I kindly pointed out the fact that I had sold the boat with the help of another source and that my ad still was not showing up online, and she interrupted me to let me know the policy clearly states that I have 24 hours to cancel my payment.
I called back a little later hoping I would be directed to another call center and/or someone more reasonable, but ended up with Maritza again. The first associate I spoke with and Maritza both refused to provide Maritza's supervisor's name and phone number, as well as Maritza's last name.
For anyone looking to sell their boat, I strongly suggest that you use another service like Craigslist. I sold my boat within 24 hours of listing mine on CL.

"Because there wasnt a LOWER rating!!! Worthless... pain in the ****!! Wompy and impossible to use an absolute disaster! Not even sure HOW they are still in business! Nothing but ADS AND PRE LOADED **** THEY WANT TO SELL... youll WORK to find even a boat lucky if after 5 min. If youve even seen ONE!! "
"You will get alot of calls from other boat listing companies to list your boat for sale. Buyers were only scammers sending fake checks. Beware. Consider yourself warned."
