"Borrow Lenses actually came highly recommeded and so I decided to try them out. When I placed my order, I wanted the lens delivered to my office rather than home, to ensure its safe delivery and because my office address did not match that of my credit card, I had to follow some additional steps to complete my delivery. And while I initially felt that to be a nuisance, I now feel is a fantastic security feature.

I ended up extending this particular lens 2-3 times, keeping it for about a month before returning it and thus finally deciding that I wanted to purchase this particular lens! =)

LONG VERSION:

I've been a client of BorrowLenses.com since May of 2009. When they were a tiny company, they had great customer service, quality equipment, but a small stock.

Since they've grown, the customer service has gone from stellar to decent, the amount of equipment available has grown immensely, but the quality and condition of the equipment has become worse.

Through the last few orders I've made, it's become apparent that the growth of the company is leading to some corner-cutting and sloppiness.

My last order, for example: I rented an LED video light and the extender was stripped, so it wouldn't stay on the camera, rendering it useless. I rented a Canon T3i and it came in a Nikon lens bag. Before I ordered, I called BL to ask if they rented an L bracket to get my 580EX II off the camera, and the woman told me they did and told me which one to rent online. She said it came with a sync cable.

When my wife picked up the order, she didn't know what to check for to make sure everything was there, so she didn't know they didn't include the sync cable. We live 30 minutes from BL, so it required a second drive the next day to and from the headquarters to pick it up, across a toll bridge both days.

When I mentioned the sync cable issue to the manager on duty when I dropped off the equipment, he told me the bracket I rented was meant for video and not photo, and wasn't supposed to come with a sync cord. Too bad he wasn't the one I spoke with the first time - I might not have had to go through all this hassle. He offered to refund the rental cost, but I declined - I might have taken him up on the offer if he had also offered to cover my gas and toll fee for the second drive.

All in all, BorrowLenses is a good company, going through some growing pains. I just hope the pains don't continue for too long. I'd rather not have to go back to renting from K&S.
