"Build direct was great in the beginning. They sent the free samples and talleyed your order even before you placed it. This was a too pushy for me. After a careful selection I finally ordered. Everything arrived. During installation it did not say anyting about gluing the 1/4 round to the floor, however we found out the hard way because the nails went right through the particl board or cardboard whatever this product is made of. Some of the 1/4 round was bent and not straight so we had to hold it with weights until the wood glue dried. It was a pain but it looks fine. Last, I needed 1 more case of flooring. They kept shipping me one box via Fed Ex and as you can imagine it was damaged everytime the delivered. I quite ordering becuase they could care or less about getting the product to me w/out damage. I would not order from Build Direct again."

"I've made three purchases from BuildDirect and they are tops in their industry. I've also won a patio furniture set from them with their Find It Keep it program and have a friend who won flooring. They are the most polite and reputable people I've met. I tried Home Depot and Lumber Liquidators and they don't come close. The ship product fast and their product is great. Best of all if you don't like their product they will return all your money and pay for the return shipping at their cost. I wouldn't listen to the others on here. If your concerned call them for yourself. They have real people that answer the phones. These guys are crazy phenomenal!!!! Highest rating possible!"

"Wow... where to begin. I honestly signed up with Epinions just to help ANYONE who might consider doing business with this company to avoid making the same mistake I did. I could paste the series of BS emails that went back and forth between the company any myself, but I don't want to ruin anyone's day. I purchased a condo, which closed a month ago and planned on replacing the bedroom floors with some high quality cork. I was interested in the Evora brand, but builddirect is the only distributor for this. I thought it was a good business gesture to send me a free sample and the product was excellent. That's where the "good business" ended. I contacted two different Brents and David in the flooring sales department. Brent sent me the sample I requested and I told him I'd need to the cork right away so my condo would be ready to move into by 7/19/13. He said this specific type was due to arrive in their San Jose, CA warehouse on Thursday, 7/11/13, which is about 50 minutes away from me, so I went ahead and placed the order on 7/10/13 for about 360sq ft of Evora Canvas cork. I arranged with my contractor to pick this up, but builddirect notified me that there was some "mix up" with the shipping/purchase orders, and that it should be ready for pickup the next day (Friday). They contacted me the next day saying they are still sorting out the issue and to plan on picking it up on Tuesday morning instead. Of course, Tuesday morning came and went and they were still "looking into it". I told them this was very urgent and I MUST have this, no later than Tuesday. Tuesday at 5pm they tell me it can be picked up on Wednesday. My contractor made a special trip in traffic to go pick up the order and upon bringing it back, I discovered it was not the correct item... or even close to the correct item. Then I get the run around again, as they had been doing for a week, and told me they'd send a delivery truck to pick up the order and drop of the correct item. Thursday comes and more BS from this company. By this point I had contact James Komenda, the VP of Sales, along with every other manager involved to complain for nth time. They ensured me it would be delivered Friday, 8 days after it "supposedly" arrived in their warehouse. Friday morning builddirect setup an overnight truck service to replace the product, but at the end of the day on Friday, I get one final BS email stating that they don't even have the product I ordered in the warehouse... so basically they BS'd me for 9 days. Apparently, their overnight truck was just going to pickup their mistake at 8am on Saturday morning. I told them to come on Monday, which they finally did to pick up the error. In return they were willing to offer me a full refund, plus $400 for the inconvenience. Since the property has concrete floors, because of them, it is not liveable or rentable. Tenants were lost because of this and I'm not able to move in as well. The $400 token is going toward motel costs while I find a vendor who can expedite some comparable cork flooring. Lots of apologies, lots of hot air, and MORE INCOMPETENCE THAN ANY COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH... AVOID AT ALL COSTS."

"I was a little weary of ordering from this company based on everyone's reviews. I'm glad I didn't listen! We saved over 50% (even if you include shipping) from many regional stores. Shipping arrived VIA UPS Lift Gate on a really nice wrapped pallet. The customer service was outstanding. When you order, you deal directly with a customer service adviser and that person is your main contact throughout your order. Shipping was very reasonable and very fast. I'm truly happy we went with BuildDirect. We ordered 4"x12" white subway tile for our retail store. "

"Buyer beware! This company does not fullfill their satisfaction guarantee, and they do NOT stand by their claim that "Comments are not edited except to eliminate inappropriate language". I reviewed a product, and although the star level is present, the review is not (7 months later). I have addressed it with the company, and they did not fix it. We have floors that shrank, despite us increasing the humidity of our home, and BuildDirect has done NOTHING to compensate. You get what you pay for, that's for sure."

Ordered tile, took an extra week due to their loss of the SKU number, then to top it off they sent me tile that did not match the sample. Sent me tile that was half the price and quality, now they do not want to exchange or return. Take my advise and go elsewhere."

"Stay away from this company. They make promises left and right but their service is definitely subpar. I ordered more than 2,000 sqft of the stranded bamboo floor. Their instructions say to use a15g staple or nail. That size staple creates a crack at every point. I was using a very experienced installer who tried every possible combination of staples, cleats, gauges and air pressures with no luck. I am being forced to glue the floor down; something I did not want to do. When I called buildirect asking for a brand and model of nailgun and fastener they refused to provide me with one. When I asked for an installer with nail down experience with their product they did not have one. At the end they told me they were a wholeseller and did not have time to deal with me. They refused to consider a refund. Stay away from them"

"I looked around HomeDepot , Lowes and couple of their retail stores near my home and it seemed the total sq.ft I needed was getting a bit too expensive so I started searching online and found this site owned by Builddirect.

I wasn't fully sure if I wanted to buy such a high value item online but I was saving $4000+ and they were giving free samples to try, and also it seemed like they had an overall good rep. on the web so I went ahead. Pretty glad I took the risk as I do like what I received. I am not sure if its a lot better quality than what I saw at Homedepot but it definitely at-par. The sales and customer service is very professional as well."

"I had decided on Santos Mahogany engineered hardwood flooring. Based on quality and cost, the two products I came down to was Build Directs Vanier Cosmopolitan, and Simple Floors Artisan Terre Verde. I received the sample from Build Direct, and thought it looked good. Also, the wear layer on the Build Directs Vanier was 3mm compared to 2.5 mm on the Simple Floors product. Therefore I placed the order with Build Direct. I asked the sales representative to confirm to me that everything I wanted to order was in stock since I did not want to have delays in my project due to unavailability of the flooring or accessory pieces. The sales representative says he checked and everything was in stock.

The shipment arrived on schedule, but I had to let it sit in my home for over a week since my home had not been occupied for over a year, and the AC system had to be on, and acclimate the wood. Once my project started, I received communication that the shipment I received DID NOT have everything I ordered, and that the accessory pieces I ordered needed to be manufactured. Thus the representative had informed me incorrectly that everything was in stock. I pointed out that I was told incorrectly that everything was in stock, and the representative then told me he did not have access to up to the date stocking info when he placed my order, and that sometimes this problem can occur. I pointed out that if that this were true he should have stated this to me prior to placing my order. This delay did cause my project completion to be delayed. After completion of the project, a couple of pieces delaminated, and the installer must now go back to replace these pieces. Thus the wear layer actually came separated from the plywood layers. The installer said that the quality of this product was not good.
In retrospect, I would not order from Build Direct again, especially since there product was more expensive than the Simple Floors product. Also, once I finally got the Simple Floors sample, the construction quality seemed superior to the the Build Directs product.
In conclusion, I would not repurchase from Build Direct, and would purchase the Simple Floors Artisan instead if I had to do over again. The sales rep gave me incorrect information which delayed my project. "
