"I've always had good service from Cheaper Than Dirt. No complaints at all."
"I have purchased several items from Cheaper Than Dirt and have been happy with every item I have ordered. Surprisingly I had actually received the shipment e mail on a Sunday and received the order within 5 days of placing the order. I usually have to wait an extra day for shipments to be received due to being in a rural location. I have not had to return an item, so I cannot speak to the customer service regarding issues with orders. Most items that I have ordered I have not been able to find by doing a search for the item on the internet. I will continue to use Cheaper Than Dirt. "
"Terrible customer service. They took my order and debited my bank account and when the item never came, even though the website said it shipped, I called and was told it was out of stock. I doubt I would have ever found out if I hadn't called. Only then did they agree to refund my purchase"
"I can't speak to the problems that some of the others have had, but I placed my first order with Cheaper Than Dirt recently. I couldn't have been more pleased. When I decided to purchase a handgun online, I did a ton of research. When I finally decided which make/model that I wanted, Cheaper Than Dirt had everyone else's prices beaten. When I chose an FFL holder to do the transfer, I asked them about Cheaper Than Dirt, and they told me that they did business with them often. I placed an order at 12:00 noon on Friday. Within minutes they had emailed me a form asking the name/phone/address of the FFL holder that I wanted to use. Saturday morning I received an email saying that my order had been shipped and was scheduled for delivery on Tuesday! Sunday I received another email stating that my order had been re-scheduled to arrive on Monday!! At 2:30 Monday afternoon the order was received, and it was exactly what I had ordered. They didn't charge an upcharge for using a credit card, and their shipping was 1/3 the cost of the others. I am now a CTD customer! "
"This is a Lessons Learned review of my experience buying a handgun through Cheaper Than Dirt. First thing to remember is that things are usually reasonably priced for a reason. On the surface, CTD appears to offer great selection, great prices, fast shipping, as well as the ease of just clicking and ordering a gun. When ordering a gun through their website, the buyer has to choose a Federal Firearms License dealer to receive the gun, conduct the background check, and handle the legal transfer of the weapon. One of the choices is the CTD store in McKinney Texas. Regarding my specific situation, this is close to where I live, and when I called to ask questions about this process, I was told that it is best to have it shipped to CTD in McKinney, because I would save the FFL transfer charge. I am an Oklahoma resident, and when reading the Texas laws on purchasing a handgun, it is a little misleading. Legally, a resident of a state contiguous to Texas can purchase a handgun in Texas. You cannot, however, take possession of it in Texas. This is not made clear by CTD on their website, and they give you a generic disclaimer, along with the no money back warning. You must pay to have it shipped to someone with a FFL in your state of residence, and then pay the person with the FFL to conduct the transfer. I called and even went into the store several times prior to my purchase, and thought I had researched this enough, so I ordered a handgun, and had it shipped to the CTD McKinney Texas store. When I went to pick it up, they then further explained the law, and that I would now have to pay shipping again, have it shipped to an Oklahoma FFL dealer, (Whom they conveniently knew and could happily recommend) and then I could have the gun I had already paid for. So, when looking at the great prices, add shipping costs, plus anywhere from $25 to $50 or more for the person with the FFL to conduct the transfer. I bought a $183 dollar pistol, and after shipping and FFL charges, it has cost me almost $250 dollars. I won’t make this mistake again, and I won’t buy anything from CTD again either. Also, just to make sure this is clear, this is only for handguns. Rifles and shotguns can be legally bought and possessed through a Texas firearms dealer, by residents of contiguous states.
Update: I emailed CTD to cancel my account. This is the text of the email I sent: Please remove my name, address, phone number, email, and any other information related to me and my account with CTD. Please close this online account. Do not call me, or send me catalogs, or emails. You have lost me as a customer, and I want no further contact with your company.
This is the reply I received: Charles, I have removed you from the catalog mailing list. Because it takes 4 to 6 weeks to be removed completely, you may receive one more catalog. For tax purposes we cannot close the online account at this time. It will be purged from the system after a few years.
If I was in customer service, I would have at least asked why. This has only confirmed that my decision to never use this company again was the right one."
"On Mon (22 Nov) I purchased an AR15 from CTD, almost $1200, paid with credit card, got an order number. The next day went to FFL dealer had them FAX their license to CTD, I followed up with a phone call to CTD customer service to ensure that they received the FFL license and everything was in order, which they said it was. Then came Wed 24 Nov and the CTD email saying that they were unable to ship due to depletion of inventory! What was the point of me purchasing the gun on 22 Nov with my credit card if not to set aside one of the guns for shipment? CTD seems to oversell their products like the airlines oversells seats. There is something to be said for paying a few dollars more to a gun dealer who actually has the gun in hand, and knows how to track inventory!"
"Bought one box of their less expensive ammo(HTM also marked BVAC on box with orange label), loaded one 9mm clip and went to target practice. Every shell jammed the 9mm. Usually shoot winchester and other better known ammo with no problem. Tried to return and or get credit for different ammo and the freaks at the Mckinney store wouldnt hear of it. No help there. Told them forget about future business because unless they clean up their customer support act and get rid of marginal prodcuts their days in business are numbered.f This ammo is dangerous and should be eliminated from the market. Its just such shady dealers like this that get the anti gun people and government involved in more regulation."
"So I feel bad now, I threw a fit and they sent a laser out the same day i called (two day shipping to boot) and didn't wait for me to send back the broken one. They handled it great but below is the story that i posted while I was still an unsatisfied customer.
This is what I wrote as a review for the product I on their website, I think it sums it up:
So I did a review when I got my first broken one, and I sent it back and said I would let people know how it was handled. My review wasn't displayed and I am sure cheaperthandirt.com will filter this one out as well. I shipped back a broken laser to swap for the same one. What I got was the exact same one. The box was dented like the first one (the reason I thought it was broken) there was locktite residue on the inside cover, because I mounted the rail I bought to put it on before I tested the laser, and the real seller was that on the owner manual that came with it there was an RMA (return authorization number) in my handwriting! yup I wanted the same laser but not the exact same one. Thought they might have fixed it so I tested it again and just like before it would turn on and off as I shook it and the dot on the wall that appeared at five feet was 5 inches. Horrible customer service. They said that the box and manual would have been sent back with a different laser because they were altered. If you believe that I got a bridge to sell ya! And even if that were the case that means two out of two were junk ;-) great product then. either way I feel abused as a long time customer who has dropped thousands on this particular site, and thus-far there has been no indication that they look to set things right other than just give me my money back... minus shipping of course because they love to overcharge you for and then keep that beautiful shipping cash! I will find a laser elsewhere and unless there is an effort to make things right on there part, I will see to it that this is no longer my homepage nor even a site that I browse. "
"This is my 2nd order from cheaper than dirt.com.
Ammo prices are super cheap, and shipping is always within 2 days! I think their order system must be excellent, as they ship out same day as order, so I ordered on Fri and got shipment on Tues. I haven't had to deal with any returns or had to deal with any calls into them, so I cannot comment on that. I think the shipping costs are reasonable, when you consider how much a box of ammo weighs. I wouldn't be able to get a deal like they give me anywhere locally, even with the extra shipping included. My 1st order included a back pack and extra mags, which also were perfect and shipped fast. 5 stars for me. Will order from again and most likely will continue to get my ammo from them. "
"Ordered some ammo and a game scale on a Saturday. Received the items the following Thursday. Shipping seemed a bit high, but the items were shipped FedEx and I saved over $17 on 4 items, verses buying elsewhere.
I did not have to deal with returns or Customer Service, So I cannot comment. I did not see any extra charges on my credit card account.
Super low priced items, that show up at your door, as advertised, in a few days.
Works for me."
"I've placed at least 12 orders with Cheaper Than Dirt since 2002 (though none since they got rid of their Buyer's Club discount). No problems that I can remember. Their prices are so low I've even used them as a drop shipping service and sold their items on eBay for a profit. Shipping is a little higher than most stores, though. Yet they've always shipped next day in my experience and provide a tracking number. But I will never buy ammo from them since they charge an arbitrary $3 fee for every ammunition order. Good overall experience."
"CTD has great prices and an EXCELLENT selction of shopping supplies, accessories, etc.
I've made 3 orders from CTD thus far and have been pleased overall with the process, prices, shipped method and speed as well as packaging. All items have been in excellent condition on arrival, NIB with no issues.
About the only thing that ends up pushing me to some other sites for shooting accessories is CTD's shipping prices can sometimes end up making them more expensive than places like Opticsplanet or a high volume reputable ebay vendor like UltimateArms.
Still think CTD is an excellent store and highly recommend them!"
"Terrible service. I was sent an email informing me my item shipped on the 8th. According to FedEx, they did not ship the package til the 12th. When I emailed them about the discrepancy, I was told it was a "mistake," but offered no refund for shipping or other consolation. I figure they lied about getting it out that day and hoped I didn't notice. The package is scheduled for delivery a few days after the last day in the original shipping time range. "
"Placed several orders in the past 6 months. Everything always came promptly. Good prices."
"Ok I've been shopping with cheaper than dirt for over 5 years. Thousands of dollars spent always recieved what I ordered. All these people leaving bad reviews are doing it in bad spirit because of a dumb boycott on that has been organized against CTD on the ar15.com forums. They were angry about CTD raising prices on ammo and such (like every other company) and decided to boycott the company and smear their name as much as possible.
CTD has never dissapointed me or any other gun owner that I've known. If your complaining about "sky high prices" well than find a better price somewhere else and stop whining. If you pay too much it's your fault not CTD's. They dont lie about prices. Sometimes their the best somtimes their not.
Either way I always have great packing, great service and speedy shipping usually within one day of the order.
An example of their service was when I ordered ammo from them a few of the cartriges were damaged in shipping or warehouse I suspect. I called and they told me to keep the ammo and they sent me a new box right away. I ended up getting 40 extra rounds of expensive self defense ammo through the deal.
All together GREAT company to deal with. Order without hesitation."
