"Pretty bad experience on a return. Here's my experience:
1 - Chegg records the package received but fails to record the package contents for this order (did you receive an empty box?)
2 - NSBI continues to attempt collections even after being sent a request by Chegg to stop the collection proceedings. My wife is told that NSBI will submit the claim against our credit report for late payment.
3 - I step in and contact NSBI and am told that they cannot stop the collections proceedings without Chegg contacting them. After informing them that the account is in dispute I’m told that NSBI does not actually submit claims against our credit report (is this a lie or is it just strong arming?) and I’m told to contact Chegg.
4 - I contact Chegg service department and run into a dead end so I ask for a supervisor. I’m told I cannot speak directly to a supervisor but one will call me when they are available.
5 - After waiting for a supervisor to call me I am contacted by one and given the same dead end result I received from the service agent. I’m informed that I must contact Chegg collections for further resolution.
6 - I can ONLY contact Chegg collections through email and their email system proceeds to direct my request to their spam folder.
This amazingly bad experience has forced us to go back to the college bookstore for over $1000 in books this semester alone (Nursing school costs a bundle)."
"AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! It is a total RIP OFF. The customer service is horrible! They will not return your call and are very rude and inconsiderate of its customers. Books never arrive on time....I would never recommend this to anyone...not even to my enemies!!! AVOID AVOID AVOID"
"I sold a book to Chegg more than a month ago, and I haven't received my money yet. The guys sent the money to a wrong paypal account, and after they found it was wrong guess what they did. They sent the money to the same wrong account. AGAIN. The customer support service is of no help at all. They keep saying I should contact Paypal while Paypal confirmed they never sent the money.
I wish I had sold my book through Ebay or Amazon even for a cheaper price. I would definitely not recommend this seller to anyone."
"I have never used Chegg to rent my textbooks because I have always found them cheaper used elsewhere, however I have used chegg multiple times in the past to sell my books back to for a fairly decent price. Recently I have been extremely dissatisfied and will never be using them again...be warned! I sold two textbooks back, each for around $45.00.... over a month later I only got paid for one of them, these two books were in perfect condition I had never opened either. When I contacted Chegg they said one book was in horrible condition and they said they tried to contact me through e-mail (I never got one single e-mail). They told me they were keeping the book as a donation. I threaten and they said they would TRY to return it to me. This whole website is a ripoff it seems they are only good 50% of the time... So now they are keeping my book and renting it to someone else because they deemed it unacceptable to pay me for it... then send it back to me I'll sell it elsewhere!"
"Dishonest! I rented a hard-to-find book from Chegg for an ok price. Four days later, they sent my an email that said my ordered had changed, a nice euphemism for they had canceled my order. I then went to their website to find the book I thought I had just rented, renting for almost twice the price. I finally got a hold of costumer service who told me that my hard-to-find book was not in stock and the relisting of the book was a mistake. I checked a couple of days later to see if my hard-to-find book was still rentable; it was but for the much higher price. I checked a week later and again there was my hard-to-find book still rentable and still at almost double the price. They told me my book was out of stock and that very same day they listed that book, which I had just rented, for almost double the price. I did contact BBB about this issue. So dishonest!!!"
"Be careful ordering with chegg.com
I needed to extend a book because the semester ends after the due date (a trap).
When I was ordering, the site said the book is automatically extended if your semester ends past the due date. What they don't say is there's an extension fee of $12 or more depending on the book & the length of extension. After adding the extension fee, it's almost the same cost as buying the book used somewhere.
Problems with customer service could mean they are tired from getting so many complaints.
I wish I Googled for reviews on chegg before renting. There are many negative & a few positive ones. The first one that pops up is at campusgrotto.com & seems to be an ad instead of a real customer review. Ask yourself why a company would need to do something like that."
"These guys are total RIPOFF. They never sent me my books. Ended up buying them from another website...I can sell them back at the end of the quarter anyway and still come out ahead of renting."
"I most recently have become extremely dissatisfied with Chegg and will not be using them anymore. Before renting from Chegg, be sure to check what it would cost for you to buy the books used elsewhere. And be careful when leaving books in your cart. I had mine all set up this term so I could place my order closer to the start of classes and when I logged back in to checkout it read "this book price has been updated" next to each of my orders. They raised my prices by more than $50 and they only sat in the cart for a little over a week! Chegg also rents you used books, not new like advertised (which is fine except for the false advertisements). Many of mine have had numerous pen marks and highlights in them. I ending up buying my books from a combination of places (half and textbooksrus) and it only cost me about $30 more than it would have at Chegg. I am not sure what has gotten into them lately but think about it, three books and a computer program for $200 that you only keep for 15 weeks OR you can get the same books for $230 that you can keep for life or sell. Even if I sold them on Ebay I could get AT LEAST $25 per book and $10 for the program. That's $85 in a worst case scenario. Just be careful where you put your money. I love the idea of renting but I think they need to reevaluate the way they do business. In this economy someone has to come up with a more practical way to get textbooks without ripping people off."
"I heard about Chegg through reading about it in the newspaper. I was pretty excited knowing that I can save money through renting textbooks/books given that they are pretty expensive. Only 1 book for this semester was pretty expensive in my case. I decided to use Chegg for this one book and the order process was extremely fast and easy. The shipping took some time (free shipping), however the book did arrived in a like new condition. I do forward in renting more books from Chegg in the future. "
"Chegg is awesome! Now I know there's some bad reviews out there, I read them all before I used Chegg, but I ended up using it anyway. Out of the 4 books I ordered, 3 of them were shipped the next day (Priority shipping) and arrived in 3 days without incident. The books were in good shape considering they were used, no torn pages or writing. The last book was a bit of a problem. It was the only book not shipped from the Chegg warehouse, so it didnt have any tracking information. I just fretted and fumed. The customer service representative (Devin) was very helpful and it didnt take long (using live chat) for him to help me with my problem. Since it hadnt arrived, he offered to send another book if the original book didnt arrive by that day. Chegg customer service doesnt work on the weekend though, so I couldnt take him up on that offer. But after some swearing and cursing, my last book arrived at the door that Saturday at 4 in the evening. If you do order from Chegg, make sure to do it early, so you dont end up pulling your hair out if the books a tad late.
Still wonderful despite that minor hindrance. 100% recommend Chegg as long as the book you order comes from their warehouse (not some partner)"
"I also wish I had read some reviews of chegg.com before renting books for them. I did finally receive all three of my books but I did not receive the third book before sending several threatening emails. No one returned my phone message. (All of this was with expedited shipping). Try to find an alternative. Chegg truly has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I hope they actually send me something about how I can mail back the books after I am done. (they are supposed to pay for return shipping. We'll see)"
"I ordered three books from Chegg.com on 8/26, with priority shipping. As of today, 9/8 I have only received one book. I have left numereous messages, numereous emails and have had no luck with a return phone call or reply. I am very disappointed in this company. I wished I would have ready outside reviews before I made the decision to use them. I really wanted this to be a great alternative to purchasing text books. But so foar it has not been great. But just for the record, the one book we have received was in new/perfect condition. If we could only get the other two in, life be great. Customer service needs some help."
"I had placed an order with Chegg.com. My order consisted of two of the same algebra books. I was charged for the two books and the charged had cleared. One all of the confirmation emails as well as shipping information emails, it stated that I would receive two of the same algebra books. When I got the books I only received one book. I have not yet received the other book that I paid for. When I called it always said "overwhelming amount of call volume" I called every hour and I could not get through. I sent emails as well as called and left a message after hours. I still have not got a response. Anyone who is thinking of ordering do not do it. It will cost you more in the long run. I will be charged full price for the book that I did not receive. I also had to go and pay for another book so instead of it being cheaper I have to pay the book store price as well as the money that I paid for on Chegg.com."
