"I ordered a Canon T1i from them and I got an Email asking me to confirm the order. When I called, I was informed that this was the camers "body only". It did not include anything that comes normally from Canon with a "body only" camera. No battery, no charger, not even an owners manual. Nothing! All this "standard" stuff was extra cost. I cancelled the order and they did that immediately, no problems there.
If you order from them, be careful! To get the same camera you can pick up at Walmart could end up costing you a lot more."
"ANYONE DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. IMMEDIATELY!
I found a camera in my price range and bought it. I paid $40.00 overnight delivery and received confirmation as well as a receipt via e-mail. TWO DAYS later i received a phone call from someone at CloseOut who began to attempt to up sell a different product to me. He began to argue with me and tell me I didn't know anything about cameras or else I would go with what he wanted me to purchase. My original $700 total went up to $1040. He then told me it was in the mail on it's way. A week later it finally arrived. When I opened the package there was the camera body but NO LENSES or CF. I called the company BEGGING them to please send the lenses. He told me he would ship them out that day and they'd be there within a few days.THEY NEVER CAME.I called the company during their "normal business hours" a few times a day for weeks! No one EVER answered. I e-mailed a few times-no response. I then called my credit card company to dispute thecharges since I now had a camera that was useless. I began to do some research on the company and found over a dozen forums, and online publications warning customers to STAY AWAY from this company. I went through all the steps required to dispute the charges with Chase. Chase attempted to get ahold of the company but couldnt. In the final step, I wrote an e-mail to CloseOut telling them since I didn't have a return address to send the useless equipment back, I have made the equipment available for pick-up, should they chose to do that. Again, no response. Chase finally reimbursed me for my $1040.00 total. That was in May. Today, I received a phone call from Chase saying that CloseOut came back and is dismissing my dispute, telling Chase that they NEVER received an e-mail or phone call from me. They are scam artists and this company is a joke. I did some more research and one of their addresses is located in a brooklyn slum and registered as "Close Out Scam." They also have about 15 different phone numbers and a few different company names ("Wholesale Genius" "SLR Genius"). I AM NOT THE FIRST ONE THEY HAVE SCAMMED!"
"Boy did I ever shop with these thieves and I wish I never did. Placed my order on the phone and yes their original prices were incredible; however by the time they got done with me my total came to $1,399. I never received a confirmation but received the order within a few days only to find items were missing that I paid for and that they charged me $59.99 for shipping that was supposed to be free. Also they were closed for the Jewish Holidays and never responded to my email regarding the missing items and shipping charges. After three emails I finally sent them a letter and copied my credit card company. I have been going back and forth with my credit card company and Closeoutgenius is standing up to the fact that I received the missing items and stated that I am committing fraud saying that I did not receive the items - They also stated that the package weighed 15 lbs -it was a mini camcorder and a portable GPS unit and a few small items - I have all the boxes as well as the original box it came in and weighed them all - how about 6 lbs. At this point my credit card company is rebilling me for the $437.96 for the items I did not receive and the shipping - What a rip-off. I suggest people do not get involved with these fast-talkers and thieves. "
"I ordered a Canon 40D DSLR at an incredible price of $269.00. I received a confirmatin email right away. When I checked the website the next day to check the staus of my order, it said it was processing. I called to confirm the status and I was bounced around from one customer service person to the next. When I finally talked with someone, they were more interested in upgrading me to a different body style, that doesn't exist, for $200 more. In addition they claimed the "cheaper" model had a plastic body and wouldn't autofocus.
When I declined that several times, I was then told I needed to purchase a battery, which I don't need since I am upgrading from a Canon 20D and already have the accessories I need. The rep tried to argue with me that the newer model needed a different battery. When I told him again that I don't need accessories and that both models use the same battery, he conceded to say that my order would be shipped in 4-6 weeks.
I check the website and my order was now on backorder status. I cancelled the order as I had the feeling I would never see the camera."
"I have ordered a sony camera DSCT700 10.1 with an unbelievable price of $160 on their webside 6 weeks and 5days ago. they sent me an confirmation email on the date of purchase, and an back order email 3 days later. I called 5 times during this 5 weeks of waiting, i had to deal with the estern time difference and wait for customers service about 30 each phone call to talk to some stupid guy. I checked on their website before i made my phone call today, they have it listed for $239,90 for the same camera. I asked the guy why they have it on the site for sale, and back order my camera, the guy told me " its back order, the that price is too high, so no body is going to buy it"exact quote! What a stupid excuse! I canceled my order and never order from them again. I have filed an complain with bbb.com that fraud company hired all liers!"
"Ordered a Canon SX10IS, wow what a price. Have been waiting 6 weeks for the item. Glad I pulled up this site, I will be canceling the order since I will never get the item anyway. Yes, I refused all the upgrades also. The customer service really Sucks (when you finally get to talk to someone). "
"Ordered a Garmin Nuvi 260W online for about $100. Everything went through fine. 2 days later got an email to confirm order over the phone which seemed odd. Also, the english and grammar in the email weren't very good which was another tip off. Called to complete and was told if I wanted to 2009 version it would be $50 more, otherwise I was getting a 2007 version. Not listed anywhere on the site. I refused 4 times, then told it was on 2-3 week backorder. It is not going into the 4th week and I haven't heard anything yet. Checked My Account on the website and it is still listed as on backorder. After checking my credit card to make sure it hadn't been charged I canceled the order online.
Like most of these sites that are too good to be true, it was a complete waste of time. "
"I have learned a valuable lesson--ALWAYS research a potential vendor!! I fell victim to the same nonsense listed previously...ordered a Garmin Nuvi 760 for $135--the best price I had seen by $95. got the email stating I needed to call to confirm and got bombarded by useless upgrades. When I argued that I didn't need these upgrades the person got somewhat hostile with me and tried to make me feel stupid. I checked my invoice, what a jump! From $138 to $519!!! I called back--about an hour ordeal and tried to cancel the order. Well, there was a cancellation fee!! I hung up...noticed my credit card had not been charged or even authorized. Thank you Bank Of America!! I called and explained my situation and they said we could treat my card as stolen---now they will never charge my card! The previous posters are correct, PayPal is great for privacy. I will be sticking with sites recommended by ConsumerReports, CNET and Amazon from now on!
Lesson learned..."
"I had ordered for a sony camcorder online , and the next day i got a mail saying that I need to call a number for confirmation. The call center guy tells me that the camcorder was out of stock for 4 weeks. When I told him that it did not show anywhere on the site, he started shouting "do u want to wait or cancel" about 2-3 times. I cancelled and immediately kept the phone down."
"Same story. We called to confirm our order for a Canon camcorder and were bombarded with up-sells, which we declined. The camera never came. The birth of our child (why we wanted the camera) came and is now gone and he'll never be one day old again. When we called three weeks later to see what the holdup was, closeout stated that the camera was on backorder. Jerks. I wrote to Canon. Isn't anyone here a lawyer?"
"I found a great price on a Canon G10 digital camera. It was super easy to place the order. I received a confirmation email, which stated that I could call them back to expedite my shipping and processing. I called them today, and then it started. I was badgered to buy a ton of accessories. When I refused to buy them, the sales rep told me, and I quote, "Well sir, you might as well just not purchase the camera.". I told him to go ahead and process the order for me.
He rudely stated that the order would be processed immediately. About two hours later, I checked the status of the order. It has now been placed on a back order status. I just called to cancel the order. "
"THIS COMPANY IS A FRAUD!!! I wish I had known about this site before I ordered. What the others say is all true. They make you call back for a "confirmation" number and try to upsell you. Then they send you a backorder email. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY or others like it. I would also recommend only using companies that have Paypal so that they don't get your credit card number."
"This company needs to be shut down immediately!! How do they get a five star rating and an award from EveryPrice.com??? I placed an order for a Canon PowerShot SX110 Digital Camera for $109 plus ground shipping. Today I received a call from a service rep to "confirm" my order. He then started to badger me about buying accessories. I kept telling him I did not need them. He finally offered me a 4 batteries with a charger for $49.99 (the price kept getting lower), a screen protector for $9 and free shipping--so I agreed. My total should have been $168. After the call, I checked my order online and saw that I had been charged a total of $249.98!!! I kept trying to call back, getting busy signals or being put on hold for 20 minutes at time, for 1 1/2 hrs. The first time I spoke to someone, it had been 45 minutes since he called me. When I questioned the charges, he started spouting out different prices than what he quoted me, and items that I didn't even order! When I told him I just wanted to go back to my original order of the camera only, he said he couldn't do that because my order had already been processed. I told him that was a bunch of crap and that I had been trying to call him back for 45 minutes. He then said he could cancel the order but that would cost me a 24% cancellation fee!!! Do you believe this sh**!! When I told him I was not going to pay this fee, he hung up on me! Again, I kept trying to call back (another hour of busy signals and being on hold). I spoke to a "customer service" rep (different guy). I explained the entire episode. He said "Well, miss, your order was cancelled and you have been refunded". I told him I did not want to cancel, I had just wanted to change the order back. He told me I could re-order on the website again---one problem--the cost of the camera had suddenly gone up $50!! I began to lecture him about doing business ethically and not ripping people off, and he too hung up on me. I will be checking my credit card to make sure they did not charge me for anything, because I sure as hell don't believe that they won't!! It is a disgrace how these companies get away with this stuff and no one does anything about it. I will be checking this site from now on before I order online. I almost placed an order for the same camera from Camera Giants until I read the reviews on this site--thanks for saving me more aggravation!"
"I was not aware of their reputation before I ordered a Canon Powershot SD1200 at a bargain price. After I stumbled upon all the complaints, I started to worry, but then thought I'll wait and see what happens. As it turned out, I had exactly the same experience as others in that when they called to confirm my order, the guy tried to sell me accessories such as a battery because he said a battery was not included. Huh? I told them the camera came with a rechargable Canon battery and charger. Then he said "well, the battery that comes with the camera is not exactly rechargable and that it lasts only 20 minutes so you'll need another." Again, huh? When I declined, he tried to sell memory cards but those too I declined. There was no hard sell, but the call did end abruptly when I declined the accessories. The very next day I received an order confirmation email from them, which advised the camera was on backorder and would take 2-3 weeks before it was shipped. At that point I knew I was experiencing the exact same thing others had described. Consequently, I immediately cancelled my order via email AND a phone call (which did require patience due to repeated busy signal and then being on hold for the next available rep). As an extra precaution, I contacted my bank to advise them of the situation and to refuse any charges to my credit card from them...just in case. Maybe Closeout Genius would have shipped by order. I don't know. But it seemed too coincidental that I was experiencing exactly the same scenario that everyone else described so I wasn't willing to waste time waiting to see if I would be the lucky one who would somehow beat the odds with a legitimate deal. Logically, it didn't make sense that would happen. Instead I ordered from Amazon. Cost me $85 more (which was more in line with all other retailers) but at least I know I'm dealing with a reputable source and that I will get my camera in about a week. Bottom line: I've learned that I need to do more research about a company I'm not familiar with before I place an online order."
"Would not ship product. Item has been on back-order for a month and by reading other reviews it sounds like they will not ever ship the item unless I buy costly add-ons. I've contacted them to cancel my order, but haven't received an order cancellation confirmation."
