"Purchased 1x Emachines T3882 PC. On the first, and every subsequent attempt to burn a full CD of data using the Combo dvd/cd writer drive, it wrote a track about a 1/4 inch wide in the middle of the CD and locked up. Before returning it to the store for a warranty service, I replaced the 256 meg stick of ram with a 1 Gigger. Upon returning it to the store I was informed that opening up the back to install the ram and a floppy drive had voided the warranty, and they would not accept any responsibility for selling me defective equipment. As a reseller in Australia and a qualified PC technician of 20 years experience, I know that this manner of warranty voidance was outlawed in Australia very early as soon as it was generally accepted that the modular nature of generic PC's (swapping out ram, upgrading video and soundcards etc.) went with the territory. According to The Nashville City Newspaper, the lawsuit brought by the Attorney General claims that "Consumer Depot advertised and promoted its products using false claims such as “works and looks great,” “absolutely awesome,” “cream of the crop” and “great deal.”
