"I am very disappointed in the service of this company. Digital Elect is intentionally misleading and has sub-par service. I ordered a camera last month, they charged my credit card on September 22nd, and I discovered that it only SHIPPED today, October 6th, two full weeks later. I hope the camera will arrive in the next week, as I need it for biological field work, which is why I ordered it over three weeks before I was due to leave for the field.
What they didn't tell me when I ordered the camera is that it is a wholesale model that doesn't have a fully functional battery, and that the normal battery is going to cost 50 bucks more. They cleverly hide this information on the website until you have committed to the purchase, and then they call you on the phone to talk you into spending the extra money so that the camera that you ALREADY ORDERED will actually work properly when it arrives.
They then charge you quite a lot (16 dollars or something) to ship the camera. I know that isn't exactly a deal-breaker, but free shipping on high-dollar purchases is pretty widespread among reputable sellers.
I hope beyond hope that the camera works properly when it arrives. I cannot even begin to fathom what a complete and total disaster it would be if I actually needed to return something or contact the company for any other reason.
**Update: after e-mailing the company about my poor experience, they did let me cancel my purchase without charging me a re-stocking fee on the same day (two weeks after purchase) that they said it was shipped. Not really a reason to shop there, but at least I escaped unharmed and can resume business elsewhere."
"Worst experience I have ever had and will never order from here again! They are very difficult to get a hold of, incredible rude on the phone, have no problem lying and when questioned will start yelling and interrupting you so much you can't even finish your question. I ordered on Sept. 9 but because of holiday website said would be processed Sept. 13, called several times and emailed requesting tracking # after 8 business days. On Sept 27 called and received a tracking # but he was incredibly rude and degrading, constantly yelling and interrupting and never let me finish a sentence. Turns out my order wasn't processed and sent on Sept 15 like he said but Sept 27 during my call. Also FYI their table top tripod is actually a mini tripod only 4 inches high and after you place the order they will call lying about something being incorrect to get you to upgrade your battery stating battery it comes with is "non-rechargable"."
"Very impressed with their service, enjoyed shopping with them not to mention their site is so easy to use."
"Worst service ever! The representative suggested me to buy additional batteries since, according to him, those in a kit can be used just 20 min. His approach was very rude, asking me why am I buying $900 camera and not buying batteries. After he told me the price for batteries and memory cards I told him I need to think about it since I am a student and I saved a long time these $900 for camera, so additional $200 is a significant amount of money for me. He said, again very rude and ironic, that there is no point then of buying camera since I can't use it. After I asked him why is he so impolite throughout the conversation he asked me which card I was using to pay my order. I told him it is international American Express and he replied that I can't pay with international card. I tried to explain to him that I already payed, that I haven't received any error or cancelation message and that you have other countries offered in your billing address options, he told me that in that case billing and shipping address need to be the same. I thanked him on his help and asked him to send me then cancelation e-mail. He responded, what difference does it make for you if I send it to you or not? I have never experienced something like this in my life, and i hope this will help you in your decision. "
"I ordered a Sony camcorder from Digitalelect and I am very satisfied"
"I was almost fooled by them. I ordered Canon EOS 7d online and I did not receive any email regarding total amount or where the good is going to be shipped from. It looked fishy from the beginning as I was charged with 71 dollars for UPS Ground!! I tried to call them today but I did not get anyone to pick up the phone for 3 tries. I was afraid that they would charge me on my credit and not hear any cancellation, so I had to cancel my credit card... It's obvious that whatever good reviews are fake---. Watch out for too good a deal, as it is too good to be true."
"BEWARE!! Bait and switch or upsell.com should be their real name-be prepared to get a phone call telling you they are "surprised" you didn't order the real battery the camera needs--as if I thought they would ship a demo battery so they could upsell-also,I paid for 3-day shipping on 8/31 and recieved the product on 9/7-I was phone promised 9/3-so, no camera for my trip-I'm sure the salesperson is pleased with his upsell commission- "No Gimmicks-No Games" must mean something else-- as I said--Beware"
"I can only confirm what many of these reviews are saying: Do Not Buy from DigitalElect. The low prices are an illusion.
I recently purchased a digital Camera. They advertise that you get what the manufacturer provides but that it might come in a non-retail white box. What they do not tell you until after you place your order is that they do not provide the battery or charger that comes with the camera from the manufacturer. They substitute a non-rechargeable 2 hour battery and then attempt to sell you additional batteries... a shady practice even if they disclosed that up front - which they do not. Once they get you for the "real" battery, the price is above that available at other, reputable dealers."
""Part of my order was delayed a few days. When is shipped I got a call from customer service, an e-mail to confirm shipping and a phone call from the shipping department. each communication apologized for my inconvenience. They apparently felt that a 4-5 day delay was too much." "
"Tried to use the same scam on us. Called after a couple of days saying they don't take American Express (website specifically says they do), that they received a transposed zip code (they received a correct one), in the efforts to sell an accessory (battery charger) that, per the manufacturer, is not necessary. They are crooks who are not particularly creative as they apparently use the same scam over and over. Cancelled my order and notified the credit card company of the scam. "
"Well, I ordered a Panasonic Lumix fz35 from them, because of the price. I called the next day to try to expedite the order. At that time their rep. told me that the camera came with a non-rechargeable battery. I insisted that the battery was, indeed, rechargeable, and he proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that the Panasonic website itself said it wasn't chargeable. Because he was lying, I told him to cancel the order, and that I would post reviews of what had happened.
BTW, the battery is rechargeable. I highly recommend to steer clear of this company!"
"I emailed and spoke on the phone to a sales representative about my order, verifying that it is a standard factory sealed package with USA warranty. I placed my order online with an American Express card, but was then emailed and asked to call them. When I called they told me that they do not accept American Express and once I provided new card info was informed that the camera comes with a non-rechargeable battery. Canon packages always come with a rechargeable battery; this can be verified on the Canon site as well as by the million other stores that in fact sell this camera with legitimate, rechargeable batteries. I haven't even heard of non-rechargeable batteries for professional SLR cameras. In addition, their standard ground shipping from NY to Phila. totaled $95. I'd steer clear. "
"Do NOT shop here. They will try to scam you. I ordered a Canon Rebel XSI. Two days after I placed the order, they called me and said "my shipping zip code did not match my billing zip code." A ruse in order for them to talk to you. The salesman asked me if I had any questions and when I said I didn't, he said, "Do you want a battery?" I asked him, "Don't they come with a battery." He proceeded to tell me that they came with a 30-min test battery; and that if I wanted a rechargeable battery I would have to buy one for $40. He assured me that the camera was as-is from Canon, brand new, and that's what I would get if I went to another store and bought a Canon Rebel. Since I've had another Rebel, and KNEW they came with rechargeable batteries, I cancelled the order. They were nice about that--but proceeded to call me FOUR more times in the next five minutes. I ignored all of their calls. I checked with the Canon specs, and they do indeed sell their Rebel XSi with a rechargeable lithium ion battery. These people are FRAUDS."
