"I'm new to this and so far it's a lot like other bidding sites. Where people that aren't as business minded start bidding and decrease the possible profit margin to a point that I may stick with this a bit longer. But with out many reasonable buy it now prices on more items . Then dealing with people that hike the price so high your return is far to close to just a break even point. And that's if everything goes well.
I just won my first bid on some refurbished fit bits. Had I not had a 10% off coupon I would've lost the bid. After some one foolishly bid it up to 54% of new retail price. Not counting tax and shipping. After that you're going to be pushing 60-70% . Not many people will bite on a refurbished for only 15 to 20% at best off. Any more discounted and it was all just to break even...hopefully. It's the 3rd time I've had this happen.
I'm not new to business just to liquidation and resales. I might try a truck load or a few pallets down the road. But as those are more of a gamble. I might start looking for a place that has less foolish people bidding prices that will show little return. I can only assume they will be lying and trying to sell as new to charge factory new prices.
In a nutshell I think to attract more serious business investors in an exploding market. Direct Liquidation should set buy it now prices on everything so nothing gets over a certain percentage of cost. And someone who is an active businessman doesn't have to deal with the bidding games. If they want it and the profit margin is good enough then you can just buy it and move on to the next transaction.
That being said...
I am impressed with how the sales associates keep you up to date with inventory you may be interested in . And all the specials ,new arrivals and such. So far Eric M has done a great job emailing me about deals , inventory and pallets specific to my personal preference.
I think a fair buy it now price on everything would greatly increase the volume of buyers and transactions over all. Leading to moving alot more merchandise for Direct Liquidation.
