I am very happy with the two First Alert Co615 Carbon monoxide alarms that I purchased two years ago - no false alarms, long life of the backup batteries. I wanted to purchase a third alarm for my furnace room. I was going to purchase on Amazon, which I did the last time, but I noticed Amazon had a five-year-old date that only showed in their "list in all departments" view of the item Co615. Amazon confirmed that theirs were indeed 5 years old. This age was unacceptable to me, since the chemical components of the product deteriorate even if you don't use it.

The item is unavailable at the local Home Depot, Sears, and Walmart.

I purchased directly from First Alert in order to get a fresher item, and I received one made within the past year. The only glitch was a one-week wait because it was out of stock. Their price was comparable to Amazon's. I am happy with the purchase."
