The watch showed available on-line on the Friday when I ordered it, but then when I checked the process of the order on the Tuesday it was still at the processing stage. Telephoned the helpline and told that the watch had probably been sold from the shop over the weekend.

"5 years ago I purchased a mid-level Citizen Eco Drive chronograph - AV0031-59A which had a 3 dial stop watch, date, tachymeter and alarm, it was well made and a nice looking but heavy watch. But the face was very “busy” and the actual time was not easy to read at a glance, plus the time and date had to be adjusted every so often and as the alarm sound was incredibly weak I gave up using that feature. So I recently decided to sell it and look for something more suitable without complicated dials and functions which I would not use.

After a fair amount of research it was clear that Citizen still make the best solar power / supported watches, plus I had just experienced 5 years of totally reliable service form my old one, so I decided it had to be a Citizen again. The new features I was looking for were... perpetual calendar, clear and easy to read face, low case thickness, lower weight than my previous Citizen and if possible zero maintenance. The CB0020-50E met all the features on my wish list plus it is Radio-controlled for extreme accuracy and has a simple easy to setup and use international time zone function.

Two small notes: Several other reviews criticized this watch and the Titanium version for having an overly complicated setup process, but my own experience was of a simple easy to setup watch.... yes you do need to read carefully the manual but once you have, it’s easy and only has to be done once. One other point to note: the CB0020-50E version is S/S and uses the H145 Calibre mechanism but the Titanium version uses the H144 Calibre which is different. You can Google this if you want to and spend hours reading about the differences, but basically if you live in an area where BST is used ( Daylight saving - as it is used in most of Europe and the UK ) then the Stainless Steel version / H145 calibre version is the one to get.

Weight wise, the S/S version is approximately 148g, which feels nice on the wrist, the Titanium version is much lighter and when I tried it in on it felt too light and dare I say it... it felt cheap and not as sturdy. This of course is just my own thoughts.... so I would suggest you go to a retailer and try both on if you are thinking of ordering the Titanium version. The only other thing to comment on is the luminescence of the dial, as others have said, it’s not brilliant but it does the job and maintains a constant light output all night.

Citizen have made a beautifully constructed watch with an elegant no nonsense design with great everyday features and zero maintenance , It is not too thick and not too thin and perfectly weighted. The watch seems to sink with the automated update every evening without fail, yes I have checked the time and it is second perfect every day. I do have a couple of watches, but they all have a very specific purposes – scuba diving, cycling and gym workouts and one for mountain climbing / trekking, so this Citizen is my everyday watch and it’s been simply fantastic so far.

Service and communication from FCW was very good indeed, delivery next day was a nice benefit. If purchased through a UK reseller the watch comes with a 5 year warranty. Yes... I’m very happy with my purchase, well done Citizen and well done First Class Watches for price matching.
