"I ordered the Radeon X800XT from gateway, as so many others did, about 2 and a half months ago. Today, after waiting this long and getting pushed back on ship dates, I received an email cancelling my order and offering me the inferior card at a lower price. I called and cancelled everything, and told them that gateway has lost my business for good, and I will be passing the tales of their idiocy on to my customers, friends, family, and anyone who will listen. BEWARE of GATEWAY! Liars, scam artists, and losers who wasted almost 3 months of my life and held over $400 on my credit card just so they could disappoint me and the rest of the world. I'm done with gateway. NEXT!"
"As others have posted, Gateway seems to take pleasure in providing customers with a grab bag of responses, none of them being accurate. Since my original order, I've been told as many lies as times that I've called - sometimes as many as 4 a day. At least if they were consistant, I might not be so angry.
While I hold ATI responsible for the delay in the X800 XT PE that I ordered through Gateway, Gateway is at a minimum, responsible for informing it's customers with accurate information.

"I placed my order for a video card on June 16 and have waited patiently for it to ship. The shipping date was originally July 9, and has been changed 3 times.
On July 30th, I logged into their website to check my order and the status said: "Please contact our customer service"
Upon contacting their customer service I am informed that my order has been cancelled due to a "billing issue." This should have been a simple fix. Gateway could have called me and we could have corrected whatever "billing issue" there was. (They never told me what the true problem was).
The CSR told me I could re-order the video card, however that would put me at the end of the waiting line AND they had jacked the price up by $70.
After speaking to 2 CSR's and incorrect transfers and wasting an hour and a half on the phone I finally gave up for that day.
I called back on sunday and finally got someone in their billing department. This person was less than friendly and informed me that Gateway was cancelling all the orders. I asked why I had not recieved notification and she claimed that I had. HOWEVER the csr I had just spoken with that transferred me said that she checked and that there was no documentation that gateway attempted to contact me. I have not recieved an email or phone call from gateway.
I am very dis-satisfied with Gateways customer service and business practices. I will never do business with them again and vehemently recommend that no one else conduct business with them either."
"I'm one of many who ordered the ATI Radeon X800XT-PE from Gateway and like everyone else I got the same runaround. After several conversations with sales, CSR's, and CSR supervisors I came to this conclusion...
All the sales people care about is selling you things and all the CSR's care about is getting you off the phone and both will tell you whatever it takes to make it happen.
Customer: Is the X800XT in stock selling for $XXX?
Sales: Yep, sure is. Great deal, eh? Tell your friends!
Customer orders on 6/3 and gets an Email from Gateway stating his order had shipped on 6/10. No, that's not a typo. Their order status actually said it shipped 7 days in the future.
Customer: Hello, can I get a status of order XXXX?
CSR: Um, we don't carry that anymore. Your order will be cancelled.
Customer: CSR said my order would be cancelled.
Sales: No, they don't have all the details. They are on backorder. They will arrive 6/16.
Customer: Okay. I'll wait
Online order status changes from ship date of 6/10 to 6/16 a few days later. A few days after that a Gateway CSR calls and says the orders will not arrive until 7/16 and asks if I want to wait. I give her the okay. Today I get a call saying my credit card authorization had expired and got denied when they retried. I cancelled my order - not out of spite but because Gateway doesn't deserve my business. I'd rather pay more elsewhere than contribute any $$$ to Gateway.
In short, stay clear of Gateway in all forms. They truly don't know what they are doing and how they survived this long is beyond me.

"They totally lied about having this X800XT instock also gave me alot of bs about the order, Credit card was billed , never again goodbye gateway forever"
"Ordered an ATI Radeon X800XT-PE on 6/2/04. The rather clueless service rep said it would ship in 2-3 days and I would have it on 6/7/04. I never received a confirmation email for my order but could check the status on the site. Guess what? It's not here. I wonder why? Hmm, maybe because these people have no clue how to run a business. They never had this item in stock but lied about it.
My order status says "Your Gateway order shipped on Not Available."
Well thank you Gateway that is very helpful. This store is not to be trusted and you would be a fool to do business with people who should be working in a circus and not a computer store. "
"I ordered an X800XT-PE from them, total came to 478.70 ~ it was supposedly shipped overnight to me on the 9th...I was told this, and a few flags went up.
I e-mailed them and was told there was a "technical problem".
This technical problem was that the company oversold the video card at a discount price, and despite the fact that I ordered on the FIRST DAY OF SALE, my order was going to be cancelled.
What a terrible company, bad business practice."
"Don't buy from this crappy place. I ordered a ATI X800XT-PE on 6/2/04. The website said it was in stock and shipping 2-3 days. When I ordered by phone, they couldn't find the part and then said it must have just came in. They then said to order and it would arrive by the 6th or 7th of June. Then I started reading a forum where A LOT of other people also ordered and were having all kinds of problems with them. I called them the next day trying to figure out the statis of my order and was given a different answer each time I called and was more confused with each call. I then read on the same forum that orders were being cancelled by Gateway. I had to call again was informed that my order was indeed cancelled. They didn't even let me know and I had to call to find this out. Keep in mind this order was almost $500.00. They had put a freeze on those funds from my credit card and said it would probably take a week to 10 days to take off the freeze. This is just shoddy business practices on Gateway's part. Very unprofessional."
"Ordered a 13" LCD TV that was discounted $200.
Received an order confirmation email within seconds, received a shipping estimate email the next day, and received another email the day it was shipped.
No problems or complaints."
"All the customer service numbers and e-mail addresses listed apparently cannot help me do anything as simple as canceling an order that isn't supposed to ship for another month.
So instead I can wait for a month while my money is tied up with Gateway (who I will NEVER deal with again) until they finally send the package and I can refuse delivery, and then two weeks later they'll finally get around to refunding my money. Over a month after they should have canceled my order to begin with.
Worst customer service I've ever dealt with. Hands down."
"I got a gateway gift card from a friend and they charge sales tax in califnornia while dell does not. Everything is at msrp or above and they are not willing to refund the gift card. Avoid these people. Customer support was awful. Their recommendation--put it on ebay."
"My motherboard recently died and so I went to buy a new one. I decided on Gateway to get it. Gateway wasn't the cheapest, in fact they cost $30 than other companies (Ok, I did find a $10 off coupon so it was only $20 more, but still.) But anyway, I figured Gateway is a well known company, so they'd be reliable and trustworthy, right? WRONG! The whole problem started when I accidentily typed the wrong expiration date for my credit card. Naturally my credit card company declined the charge. I immediately called gateway to tell them the problem. I was then told that the person I was talking to could not help me, and I needed to call billing. I called them and they changed the information and assured me everything would be fine. Two days later, I look on the order status and see they haven't even resubmitted the charge to my credit card yet! Oh, did I forget to mention that I paid for overnight shipping? Yes, I ordered it on a Sunday so it wouldn't have been processed until Monday, but it wasn't shipped. It's the end of Tuesday and it still wasn't shipped, in fact, although the site says it is in stock, it says it will be shipped on the 24th! That means I won't get it till at least the 25th, that's certainly more than "next day." Needless to say, I've now canceled my order with Gateway. I've now found the same motherboard for $114 instead of the $133 I was paying at Gateway. I've now ordered it from ZipZoomFly.com, I'll post how that went when I receive it."
"I read all the bad reviews on Gateway, So I had to tell of my experience. I placed an order at midnight sunday, and had it in my hands after work on tuesday. My order had to ship from California to New Hampshire!! Shipping was free. You can't ask for more."
"Ordered a JVC camcorder on September 6th, 2003. Website indicated in-stock ready to ship. 2 weeks later no camcorder no email, nothing. I call customer service, can't reach anyone. I call the sales dept. and get right through. They transfer me to cust. service and after waiting 15 minutes I finally reach a real person. They say camera is on backorder. I say then why is it still listed as in-stock. They can't answer that. They tell me the camera will be in next week. I receive a call about an hour later from Gateway saying the camera is no longer available and offer me a lower end camera for the same price. I say no thanks, cancel my order. Bottom line in my opinion, run away from this POS company. Thanks for jerking me around for 2 weeks Gateway. You lose!"
"I ordered a case for my digital camera (with 5 mega pixel). It was in stock, and was offered free shipping. After some events, it arrived as was offered."
