"I ordered a digitial camera from Gateway that was supposed to be in stock and available, not only on the day of my purchase, but their webpage stated in stock for three more days. The camera, however, was not in stock, but a shipment was supposed to arrive 7 days later. Of course, no shipment arrived and my order was canceled by Gateway without contacting me. This was a thouroughly disappointing experience! I cannot recommend Gateway at all."
"I ordered a computer through Gateway about 6 years ago and could not speak better about their service at that time. My recent order, however, was a HORRIBLE experience.
I decided to upgrade my speakers and sound card. I placed an order with a different company for an Audigy 2 card on 5/22 at about 8 am. A few moments later, I placed an order with Gateway for the Logitech Z-640 speaker system, which numerous websites claimed Gateway had in stock and claimed Gateway offered free shipping. At $59, this was about as cheap as I could find it. Here is what happened:
1. I went to the website to place the order. Website confirmed the speakers were in stock.
2. I went through order process but stopped when they tried to charge me $19 for shipping.
3. I spoke with an esales advisor (Zeeman) online who told me he would take care of the shipping charge.
4. I placed the order. Two days later, there was no update to my order status. The website claimed they were waiting for parts to complete the order.
5. I called customer service on 5/24. The rep had no idea what the order status was and could only tell me that the shipping charge was still there and the estimated delivery date was 5/30.
6. On 5/25 there was still no update. I wrote an email to customer service. They responded on 5/26 saying that there was an "unavoidable delay" in the order and my new delivery date was 6/2. They also stated the shipping charge was still there, despite my leaving a voice mail with the sales advisor who had confirmed my free shipping.
7. I wrote customer service back asking for an upgrade in shipping due to the delay. On 5/27, I got a response saying that the original shipping charge needed to be taken care of and had not been and that now there was a problem with my payment method (credit card).
8. I called customer service again that same morning. The CSR told me there was an unknown "hold" status on my order that she could not explain. She was able to remove it, but not explain why it was there. She said the arrival date was 5/30 and that the shipping charge was STILL THERE.
9. I call the esales advisor and actually speak with him on 5/27. He claimed he would take care of the shipping charge and also that my order would ship within a couple hours. He said I should have it in two days. This was at about 10 am.
10. I check the website at about midnight that night to find out there is STILL NO CHANGE IN MY ORDER STATUS. I write a third email demanding to know what is going on.
11. I recieve and email back on this morning saying the EXACT SAME THING as the first response: there is an unavoidable delay in my order and it will arrive on 6/2.
12. I call customer service AGAIN and the CSR tells me that the speakers are on BACKORDER for 2-3 weeks, despite their website saying they are in stock!
13. I ask to speak with a supervisor who basically says there is nothing she can do. I cancel the order.
After all that, I have no speakers now to go with my new sound card, I am going to have to pay more for the speakers, and will have to wait an additional week because even if I order them from Newegg, they will not be here by the weekend.
I am VERY disappointed in Gateway. Half the time when I called, the CSR had difficulty even finding my order in the computer. No wonder Gateway is going down the tubes."
"I ordered a Canon i850 photo printer on May9 and received it on May 14 by Fedex free shipping. The price was a good deal because there were no shipping charges. I installed it with no problems. It is a great printer and Gateway's service was exemplary."
"From a review of the digital camera sites out there, I was not the only one left high and dry by Gateway. Ordered a high end digital camera for a great price, and was assured by sales rep. that the camera was brand new, and the very low price was correct, and meant to draw traffic to the site. So, reassured all was in good order, I ordered. Received two confrimation e-mails, and Credit Card was authorized for the amount posted on the site. Alas, the next day I received an e-mail cancelling my order. This retailor has no honor, after complaining to customer service all the way up to the corporate level, they still would not honor the sale. I wouldn't trust this company for anything based on this experience. Dell may be slow, but they honor their committments. "
"Completely Satisfied. I ordered a router and some extra cables. They offered free ground shipping so I took it and figured i'd get everything within a week. Upon check out was nervous when it said I would recieve goods within 10 business days. In reality the package came in just over 24 hours. Packed well with the excpetion of the fact that one of the cables was so tightly wound it split the casing so I decided to pitch it since it was only 3 or 4 bucks. Would shop there again."

"Ordered on Sunday 11/25/02. Did not receive any kind of confirmation for two days. Called on Tuesday to find out the status of my order only to find out that the order wasn't processed because my billing address (which is a PO box) had been used instead of my home shipping address. When I placed my order I had used my shipping address but somehow it was replaced with the PO Box address.
After this was resolved the order was promptly shipped and I received a tracking number via Fed Ex. Monitor didn't arrive that week due to Thanksgiving. Checked tracking and noticed delivery date had been changed. Called FedEx and sure enough, my PO Box address had been used instead of my home address and they couldn't deliver it so I had to go to the local FedEx hub and pick the monitor up.
After setting up my new Viewsonic P95F+ I noticed that it had a geometry problem in one of the corners so I called Gateway to obtain an RMA #. Well the first of several CSRs I talked to said that I needed to have tech support document the problem before I could obtain an RMA#. After being transferred to tech support I was told by the tech who didn't have a clue that Gateway had an Accessory store to contact Viewsonic of which I had explained that I had already done and that Viewsonic's tech support told me the monitor was defective. After being transferred to and from customer service and tech support for well over an hour, I finally reached somebody who had a clue, Tonya #1203 who setup my RMA and transferred me to Sales to have a new monitor shipped. Have yet to receive a tracking number or correspondence as of 12/6/02 on the replacement monitor. Moral of the story, stick with Newegg as at least they have a clue."
"ipurchased ram from gateway store in kennewick when i returned on 11 13 02 I called to see if it was in. they had no record of order. I said then forget it and went somewhere else. I get a call on Dec 4th telling me my ram is in and has been there since nov 1st. i said forget it that they had told me it hadn't been ordered.No way I had to keep it because of a 15 day response time. they wouldn't credit my account. Never mind they never notified me that it was there. I'm always home and have an answering machine. I find it deplorable the way they handled things -I have purchased 4 computers in 5 years from Gateway as well as many other items. "Ordered Altec Lansing 641 speakers priced at $149.95 with free shipping on 11/24/02. Received confirmation email that day and a second email indicating delivery ETA of 12/9/02. Surprise! Order arrived 11/26/02 in the morning less than 48 hours after ordering (ordered on a Sunday). Fastest transaction ever and the speakers sound great! Very pleased with the service. Even received a tracking number after arrival because they were so fast. "
"Ordered an HP printer model CP1160. With free shipping was priced lower than other reputable on line resellers. Order acknowledged right away via e-mail. Next day I received an e-mail with the tracking number. They did make a minor mistake by stating it was shipped via UPS, and actually it was fed ex. When UPS didn't recognize tracking number, I tried fed ex and bingo! Printer arrived within a couple of days. A no problem transaction. A week or two later I decided to order some spare in cartridges from them. This time they stated Fed Ex in the e-mail and the items arrived promptly with no problem."

"Hadn't even thought of buying from Gateway, but a price search for some Monsoon MH-502 flat panel speakers brought up a very competitive price from the Gateway Accessory store, with free shipping to boot! Added in some firewire cables that I needed, and figured I'd see how they do - the site said that the items would ship in 2-3 days, and I wasn't in a hurry.
The stuff shipped later that day, and I had it two days later. All as ordered, came quick, excellent prices - definitely recommended!"
"Plus: The merchandise arrived quickly - with the free shipping as advertised.
Minus: Impossible to track shipment, the web site has you fill out a form to track the shipment. The form generates an email back to you that says you must call a tollfree number to get status. This can be a 15 minute wait to get shipping status.
I had a problem with the merchandise. They won't cross ship a replacement. The RMA has not arrived (via email) in 5 days since contacting them, although a confirmation email has occurred stating that one is on the way.
Bottom line: Buy only if you like free shipping and fast delivery without shipping status. If you expect to have any problem with the merchandise when received it is a total hassle to RMA the product."
"Do not do business with this guy. I made an order on 8/18/2002. Two days passed, no any reply. So I canceled this order and ordered on PCConnnection.com. After one day. GateWay sent me a shipping notification. I called him – “Why ship after my canceling order”. He asked me return using my pocket. After I return the order one week, GTW did not refund me. I called GTW several times. But GTW only refunded me partial of the merchandise. I think GTW has no any stuff in the stock, only ask third party send to you!"
