"complete FRAUD. Representative themselves as Marriot, lying about access to wedding block. Cost considerably more than booking directly. No refund. Called number for Marriot Hotel. 10/12/19. Attempted to book 2 rooms for wedding block. Representative indicated that there were no more rooms available in the wedding block for the wedding guest price. This was a total lie. She encouraged me to book quickly, which unfortunately I did as she indicated that all rooms were booked and offered me a room at another Marriot - another lie. I booked and paid $198 plus $101.37 tax and recovery fees for one room and $236 plus $114 in tax and recovery fees. I asked about why there was such a significant added amount - she said there was a very high tax on hotel rooms. Nothing about recovery fees. Another lie. When I found out today from the Marriot that there were still rooms left at the discounted guest price I called Get a room and was told that there was no refund on my rooms. I asked to speak with a supervisor and the representative asked me to hold. They hung up on me and sent me an email with a link to complain. We are senior citizens on a fixed income and we have been ripped off. This company represented itself as Marriot and lied to cover for its already fraudulent practices. I would like a refund in the amount of $649.37 ASAP so I can book directly with the hotel. "

"So first of all they are a proper middle man that will charge you upwards of 100 USD on top of the actual room charge. They will post lower rates but charge a lot more under the guise of "taxes". Worse still they are not able to provide you a receipt for the charges so you can not prove the charges. The hotel will give you the receipt for their potion which will be less the charges from "get a room". So forget it if you need a receipt for work charge back or tax cuts or whatever reason.

There is also no cancellation so as soon as you locked in you are basically screwed and they do it on purpose because they know when you get to the hotel you will realize you have been ripped off and the rooms are actually cheaper. but its too late because you cant cancel.

I don't understand how major hotel chains allow such scam to book rooms on their behalf. I guess business is business. "

I didn't realise I was even booking through these shysters. I clicked to book for a room for £70. The next page takes you to a form and at the top is a count-down clock for how long that room rate is available for. The pressure is on! You complete the form and hit pay. And what you don't realise is that at the side of the screen, greyed-out so as not to draw your eye to it, is the detail of TAX THEY ADD TO THE ROOM.

It is TOTALLY OPAGUE. TOTALLY CORRUPT. TOTALLY A RIP OFF. They added £38 to a £70 room. I paid £108 in total.

The hotel were appalled and apologised but they cannot do anything.

I will raise a complaint with local trading standards.

I paid for the hotel on my Amex so I did raise a complain with them and GETAROOM contacted me. Their advice was that I cancel the booking. No refund. No return on the tax. Just cancel. So I lose my money and the room and have to pay again for the hotel. Absolute joke.

"In a nutshell, they are a scam and I accidentally booked with them thinking it was direct with hotel. They charged a $100 booking fee for a $350 room. I thought it was a refundable directly through hotel. I never received a confirmation and then saw the charge to my credit card. I called the hotel directly and they said that the room was booked nonrefundable through a third party (getaroom). Exact thing happened to my friend for her room. We didn't understand how we booked through them non refundable etc... The room direct through the hotel website was $350 total. I will never book a room on my phone or EVER with Getaroom. "This company is a complete scam. I wanted to book a one night stay in Denver, CO for my unit’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball. I searched for the hotel website and found an ad sponsored website that showed the hotel’s name in the URL. After clicking on this link I was taken to a website I thought was the hotel’s website. When I clicked on the room I wanted I was taken to getaroom.com, which I thought was a website contracted by the hotel to handle their booking. The price for the room was listed as $119 for a single king size bed. I clicked on the book now button and was taken to a page which stated their no refund no cancellation policy and then asked for my credit card information. I gave it and clicked submit. I then was taken to the summary page saying my card was charged $210.02!!! I want to make it clear, no where during this process was the total amount of what was being charged displayed!

I looked at my confirmation email which showed I was charged $148.75 for the room and $61.27 on “tax recovery charges and service fees” (again, this was not displayed to me prior to purchasing the room). I then went back to the website and hit the back button to the page I saw the room. The room literally changed prices before my eyes from $119 to $148.

I immediately called customer service to ask for a refund. I was told repeatedly by a very rude female that she could only give me a 10% inconvenience fee refund but could not refund the money because of their policy. I repeatedly asked for a manager but was told “they are with another customer” and they were “just going to tell me the same thing”. They refused to transfer me to the manager until I threatened to report this charge as fraudulent with my credit card company. I was then told I would be transferred to a “specialist” who could assist me. After sitting for a further 33 minutes on hold, I heard an automatic recording state, “this number is not a working number”. DO NOT USE THESE A**HOLES!"

"I don't remember how I ended up at Getaroom.com, but I did and I lost $715. As many reviewers have already mentioned (which I should've read before booking), getaroom adds hundreds of dollars to your hotel reservation for nothing more than a website fee. I initially completed my reservation of 2 hotel rooms for 2 nights at approximately $105 per night per room. I completed the transaction and immediately received a confirmation noting that the entire price would be $715. At no time during the booking process was I clearly informed of this fee. I've never even heard of a website adding a fee. I immediately called them and asked about the discrepancy. They said they added a $200 fee for themselves. I asked to cancel the reservation and they told me that I wouldn't be able to since it was a non-refundable rate. I then contacted Citibank to contest the charge. I then went to hotels.com and book the same rooms for $105 per night...with no fee. Three months later and Citibank has just informed me that I have to pay the $715 to getaroom.com. Turns out, those hotel rooms ended up costing me over $1200. That's $300 per room per night. Never, ever, ever, should you use getaroom.com. And it appears that Citibank doesn't have your back, either. Currently shopping for a new credit card."

When I cancelled immediately they did not refund my money, even though the hotel itself told me I could cancel the reservation with no fee. However, this had to be done by GetARoom. I discovered, too late, that this sneaky agency bought the domain name of the hotel so I THOUGHT I was booking directly with the hotel and would only pay the room rate and taxes, nope. Was shown a price of $69.00 so I clicked on "reserve now", was charged $119.97!!! for taxes and FEES!!!! (normally taxes are about $12-$15 above room rates in Georgia so was expecting about $85.00) Non refundable and no cancellations of course. Sorry chump, you trusted us so No take-backsies! "DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR GUEST RESERVATIONS , they manage to let you think you are booking direct with the hotel (they use the hotel name and the guestreservations in the web link) they quote attractive room rates and do not use their company branding other than the tiniest logo in the top header in hard to see text. Then once you’ve accepted the room, still thinking you’re on the hotels own site, they take payment details and add on 45% in ‘tax’ in my case.
Having realised my mistake - although more a misrepresentation on their part, messaged immediately asking them to cancel and refund all my money or match the Booking.com price.
They Messaged back saying canceled at the cost of the booking, so no room and no money!!! are third party may wavier the cancellation charge. this will take 7 days, the booking was for 2 days time !!
Phone once saw this message waste of a call to the US from the UK !!! got offered a 5% discount. She was unaware of the website Best Rate Guarantee.
Even though there website links to another company getaroom.com (even worse reviews than here) where this Best Rate Guarantee form is which when you click doesn't take you to any such form.

I get to the hotel and the manager says "Oh, getaroom.com has cancelled your reservation without reason." Now just imagine getting off a redeye to hear that about a room you already paid for. One thing that you CANNOT say after you read this is that "Well, nobody told me." You can't say that at all. This company is ran absolutely horribly, they are inattentive, and you will risk not having a roomat all if you have the displeasure and unluckiness of having to contact them for a room. If you're third party website (expedia, travelocity, etc) sends you to them, cancel your itinerary immediately without delay and go with someone else. Better to start to the refund/reimbursement process as soon as possible, rather than delaying and having them get the upper hand, CANCEL THEM IMMEDIATELY.There are many other services out there who are about their business and will get you a room WITHOUT screwing you over in the process. "I booked a 3 day stay at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins in San Francisco after clicking on a Google link that was titled "Intercontinental Mark Hopkins - Guest Reservations." I thought I was going to the hotel's direct booking site but I wasn't paying close enough attention to the URL, which was guestreservations.com. The site was clearly set up to appear to be the hotel's web site. I booked a room for 3 days and, only after my transaction was confirmed, did it clearly show that I was being charted a $621 Tax Recovery Fee! Also, my confirmation email came from getaroom.com, which was a surprise to me since getaroom.com never appeared as a party to my transaction at any time during the booking process. Charging me over $200 per day in "Tax Recovery" fees is a blatant ripoff. BEWARE OF GETAROOM.COM AND THIER OBSCENE FEES." I am embarrassed that I fell for this bait and switch ripoff and will never use a third party booking site again. For reference, I checked with the Mark Hopkins and I would have been charged a total of $272 in taxes and fees for my three day stay if I had book directly with them, as I thought I was doing. So getaroom.com overcharged me by $350."

I've searched for hotels on Trivago on several occasions. One of the lowest rates quoted is from GetaRoom, who charge a huge "Tax Recovery and Service Fees" - in most cases 1/3 or more on the cost of the rooms!

The price quoted initially is a fraud. Stay away from this vendor."
