System let me order, but the item wasn't in stock

"The system let me order the Yaesu FTM-400 and gave me a quick delivery date.
A customer service person later told me that the web site didn't have any stock listed for that item.
I asked, but wasn't told, how this might have happened.

Would an order like this be eligible to have stock shipped from a brick-and-mortar store?

A rep from GigaParts, GigaParts, has responded:

“I am very sorry for the frustration. We try to avoid this frustration by 3 different notifications. On the product page it will always state "In Stock" or an estimated shipment time. This particular item stated "Reserve yours now! Ships in 30+ Days". Then when you checkout there is an alert that says "This item may delay your order." We also send a follow up email to make sure the customer did see our alerts. If it is not available on the website it isn't available from our retail stores. I am sorry if the person you spoke with did not clarify. It isn't unusual for customers to order with an expedited method wanting the product to delivery quickly once available.

"Let me start out by saying that the only reason 5 starts were not given was due to the fact that there was not an actual transaction made. I ordered an item from Giga Parts.com and payed for it online. Soon after I received an e-mail from a gentleman named Michael. He informed me that the item I ordered was not in stock even though it showed it to be online, due to the current situation ( Covid-19 ) , the system needed to be updated to reflect actual stock of said item. He was up front and honest as far as I could tell about everything and extremely apologetic about it even though, understandably, given the situation, it was something completely out of their control. Nonethe less, he offered me to keep the order and that the item would be shipped out as soon as it was made available again by the manufacturer, or I could go ahead and cancel the order and receive a complete refund. I needed the item pretty quickly so I chose to purchase a similar item elsewhere but by a different manufacturer that was in stock. I really appreciate the prompt response and explanation that was given to me. Most businesses do not take the time to offer this type of customer service anymore. I appreciate the professionalism and prompt refund so that I may find what I needed even if it meant the sale was made elsewhere. I look forward to doing business with Giga Parts in the near future. "
