"I ordered an item from Abe Books. The seller was Half Price Books and the book was advertised as being in "very good" condition. It arrived with the spine coming away from the pages. It is difficult to read because I need to hold the heavy, 700-page paperback in a way that will avoid the pages coming apart from one another. I will avoid Half Price Books in future as they evidently overrate the condition of the books they sell."

I worked for 3 days at ~ 50 cents per hour sorting through ~ 500 of my decesed brother's books. He had business, health, espionage, love - relationship, marketing, JFK hard cover, flynn, Tom Clancy, Accounting and many more topics etc.
I narrowed the list down to 17 cube boxes for about 340 books. I had to waite 3.5 hours for them to record the books. Average new price for these books would have been ~ $ 20 ( conservatively low ) and they "OFFERED" ME $ 94 or 27 cents per book ( I honestly think it should have been $ 940 but the guy at the counter just said take it or leave it. What was I supposed to do? Take them all back? If they sell them for $ 1 each, that is a 400% mark up from their purchase price! While I was waiting I checked out some Tom Clancy books that were on their shelf and the were priced at ~ $5 for small paperback. That is an 1800 % mark up from the price they paid me. Many of the books were in new condition and many more were in good condition."

"Once again the fraudsters at HalfPrice sent me a book that was inaccurately described. This, of course, is a mark of commodity aestheticism, bookselling incompetence, and outright fraud. The book was ex-library though this was, of course, not noted, as is HalfPrice's half arsed not really a quality bookseller practise since they are to lazy to do anything other than cut and paste descriptions.

Since I don't have a printer I can't print the return label and I can't copy it and send it to someone to do it for me. The jerks at HalfPrince, of course, want me to pay a dollar for a prepaid return label so I can return a book I would never have bought if It had been accurately described. I will no longer be buying books at Half Price something I have done since the 1980s. Up yours HalfPrice and good riddance. I will be reporting you to the NY AG.

"I'm 16 and tried selling a box of records there I went to the service desk and asked about selling them I was immediately brought back by the question are you 18 or older? And I was honest and replied with a simple no and he said you have to be over 18 to sell things there which if you ask me makes no sense that kind of defeats the whole purpose. I'd rather throw my books, cds and dvds into the garbage, or just donate them to a thrift store. Don't set foot in HPB unless you are incapable of being offended. They are willing to take stuff off your hands, but that's about it. And at least at the store I've visited, they are primarily staffed by smug hipsters wearing no end of virtue-signaling apparel, buttons, etc... They're woke and I'm broke."

"Found a set of books I've been looking for a long time at a great price. Made it all the way through placing the order and the order was confirmed as going through. I even checked back online and the books were removed from being available to order right after I placed my order. Then I get the email that my order had shipped- but I look closer, only 2/3 of my order had shipped. Then came the next emails cancelling the other 2/3 of the order. Whoops, we didn't have those books after all. Appalling lack of reliability and responsibility towards the customer. Orders should not go through if you don't have the books. Your online inventory needs to be real time. If a book sells in a physical store, as soon as the book sells, that should electronically remove the book from online inventory. If a book sells online, that store should get an immediate message and they need to pull that book asap. They also should be responsible for procuring a book, even if they have to spend more than they make, if a mishap happens. Take care of the customer, be reliable for your customers. "

"I purchased a book through them. They shipped in the thinnest plastic bag possible. It was ripped open on 4 sides when I received it. I emailed them and included pictures. Never heard back so I followed up- never heard back. Filing a charge back to get a refund. "

I was trying to do a drop off contact less cause my 4year old has cancer and is very immune comprised. The manager was so inflexible and unfriendly I changed my mind. Not worth bringing books there. Please consider making changes. You have a one star review. Now I think I know why. Could be a good store. We used to go there alot but our last few experiences have gotten progressively worse.
