"I hired my last contractor through Home Advisor who made the claim: "Home Advisor Screened & Approved. This service provider has passed the Home Advisor screening process."

This contractor never completed the jobs for which he was hired. Not only did he not have the manpower to do the job, he had to borrow the tools needed, and even didn't show up on one day because he had started another job for someone else! For FIVE MONTHS he did nothing but give me excuse after excuse, saying he would return to finish the jobs and/or pay me the $600 owed for the unfinished work. During the time he was actually on site working, he managed to totally obliterate one of my storage sheds on my property, which has a replacement cost of $400.

I will NEVER use Home Advisor ever again, and I do not recommend them either."

I would not recommend this company to anyone, they are in the business of just taking your money and billing your more money. They do not care about your need or service. I could not get a refund for a service I did not want to use and was told I didn't have to use it right away, but instead I was bill for a lead from this and they charged my CC immediately. They told me I could not get a refund and it takes 24 hours to close my account. Do not sign up with this company or they will take your money!!!!"

"You need to expend a lot of money on leads , depending on your job type , for example in my case is flooring and a $500 a month budget didn’t work. You can’t communicate with at least 50% of the leads that you get. My buddy have his budget at $1250 a month and he sells a little more than me but I thinks that’s way to much to spend. Basically a couple of jobs are free because you need to cover the money you spend with Home Advisor. Unless you have a very high budget don’t use them, you will spend a lot of time and money on leads that are for small jobs. "

"I’ve been with Homeadvisor as a contractor for 4 days 4 DAYS! And I got about 5 leads none of them picked up none of them texted back and none of them emailed me back but yet Homeadvisor still made out with $200 they automatically took of my account. I tried requesting for my credit and they said I didn’t respond to the leads fast enough. Who in their right mind will call someone at 2am? Even if the lead came in at that time you still don’t call no one at 2am, I would wait until around 8-9am but still no answer from the leads as a small business owner trying to make it each and everyday I feel I have been badly ripped off I paid $287 for an annual or start up fee, and now got $200 taken out of my account for leads that where not even real ones! If you’re a contractor and are thinking of joining Homeadvisor i personally from my experience would not recommend it unless you do have the funds to take a big hit financially "

"I contacted Home Advisor after hearing a commercial on wsb 750. They gave my information to a contractor from Chug a Lug. I hired him, because they stated that the screened the company. The worker was not with the company. I called Home Advisor, and they were no help to me, and advised me to call the police. I called Chug a Lug, and the person that was working on my home answered the phone! He had stated to me that he had no affiliation with the company and I was lied to. I feel Home Advisor put me in this horrible situation and should be held accountable. THe contractor did not put down a tarp when he removed the ceiling. My hardwood floors are scratched and he did not replace the insulation that was removed. I was called a "raisist" and the stress of this so horrible! My husband is disabled and I was left to deal with this nightmare. I am out $1500 for and will have to have the work redone."

"I need a painting company so I called Home Advisor’s. A very nice gentleman came to give me an estimate. He indicated that this job would be easy and he would email me an estimate. I never heard from I’m him again and this company is not listed. I’ve made several calls for repairs on my home and VERY few responses. Do company’s not want my money?"

"I just signed up with them Friday when they promised a $300 credit towards leads, said service leads are 22.00 and replacement leads 50.00 and convinced me that they had improved their system.
Reason for the $300 credit was because I cancelled their service last fall when leads turned to crap and still paid for the full year. So it was supposed to offset the 287.99 signup fee.

First lead was Saturday at 9pm for changeout. $60. No answer when I called, so sent email. On the second call on Sunday the home owner said their neighbor took care of it.
Second lead nobody picked up.

Called home advisor and they had no notes on a $300 credit and were going to charge a full price for their services.
So decided to cancel and get the 287.99 set up fee back. They how ever said there was no way to refund the $120.00 that they had already delivered to me on leads.


Answer to Rep: I was with service magic and this was my second time with home advisor. Another rep looking "into it" will not cover my losses. It does however give the impression that you would be willing to do something.
I would suggest home owners to look into google reviews and not call companies thru home advisor, because the company you will get is already $20-$100 in the hole. With an average of getting 1 customer from every 4 leads the actual number is somewhere between $80-400. "

"Home Advisor is a scam. They too off the contractor by charging for services that I don't offer. And jobs we dont actually get."

"Home Advisor sends you leads which you pay for. Then you contact the lead based on the information (phone number/email) you are given. When you call the phone numbers you are given and the person answers your call and says they never requested your service or called home advisor you have to ask for a refund from home advisor. They refuse to give you a credit for providing USELESS information and their excuse is “we don’t have the resources to verify all the information we pass on to you” and “that’s the cost of doing business “. Wow what a great way to screw honest business owners out of money!!!"

" Most of the leads were not legitimate. Made actual contact with less than 20% of the leads... even when calling back within seconds, making multiple calls, sending texts and sending emails. On some callbacks, the numbers never even rang, 3 beeps and a disconnect. They will also renew your membership automatically, without notification, and refuse refunds. There is a class action lawsuit pending against the company.

What a fiasco. The poor contractors were so bewildered as to why I said that I was still thinking about it....not ready to do more than read reviews. Now I find out that they get charged for a "lead"....horrible system
