"I hired a contractor recommended by Home Advisor to renovate my bathroom which included new tiles, toilet, sink, vanity and lighting fixture. 6 years prior to the renovation my previous lighting fixture worked perfectly and the sink never clogged. Occasionally the tub clogged. After the renovation my sink always clogs and the lighting fixture is always malfunctioning. Home Advisor always removes negative reviews of contractors on their websites so you never know what you are getting. They tried to intervene but my contractor always makes excuses and they side with him. Most recently he told me to buy special lightbulb from Amazon and they still did not solve the lighting fixture issue."

"I represent the contractor side. As a contractor dealing with HA in our first year of business, the main thing that stands out is that we CANT WAIT to be rid of them. Although they have been our main source of income (hence the extra star), the frustration stemming from a multitude of issues with their practices has left a bad taste. We receive bad leads over half the time, which they are happy to take advantage of, if not actually create, if youre too busy to keep up with following up and TRYING to be credited for all the bunk leads. Getting credit for bad leads is a whole other story. Good luck trying to get ahold of someone, and when you actually do, look forward to hearing their scripted response to any and all issues you may have, as they surely deal with those issues regularly. As a homeowner, if you've read other reviews, the service is great (usually), but those reviews are about the contractor for the most part. If you're thinking of becoming a home advisor contractor, you will benefit financially, but be prepared for homework and shady practices by these guys. If you're a homeowner, and looking for a contractor, this is a decent way to find one, just know that HA will not go out of their way to help you once they've gotten their money. Two stars was generous."
