"In March of 2017 I hired Five Star Home Improvement (contractor) – King, NC, after reviewing ratings in Home Advisor to repair my leaking master bedroom ceiling/roof leak, and to also clean my gutters (which may have been an issue causing the roof leak). The first repair job by Five Star Home Improvements did not fix the ceiling/roof problem, although I paid the contractor $585.00. A second job was done by this contractor. At this point I was told I had a bad mold problem as a result of the roof leak. The contractor told me that his company was certified for mold removal as well.

Again, I asked him to make the repairs, assuming that he would absorb some of the cost, since the previous repair had failed to fix leak/roof problem. For this I was charged $4,447.25, and I had no choice but to pay the contractor. The contractor advised me that roof leak and mold remediation was solved; although the contractor provided no lab reports or evidence that the mold removal was accomplished.

The response that Home Advisor let my contractor filed to my posted review was full of inaccuracies and untrue statements. First, the contractor was hired to repair my roof - that was the sole purpose of my contracting them. Second, the first roof repair job failed. Third, I was not told that a roofer had been subcontracted to do repairs. Fourth, vents were not a part of the project that I posted a review for. Fifth, I have no proof that mold removal was accomplished - period.

Home Advisor made me prove my negative rating and shared my rating with the contractor for review before they would post it. Because contractors pay Home Advisor to be in their network, they favor the contractor in all respects, including negative ratings. I will never use them again for any reason.
