"I signed up for the Home Advisor Pro service but then quit after a few tries. The good thing about using the Home Advisor service is that you get a good price. The bad thing about using it is that you have no idea who is coming to your house until the day of the job when you get a text from an unknown number.
I signed up for a home maintenance project while we were still in Covid lockdown and requested a contractor who was vaccinated because we have a very weak cancer patient in the house who cannot afford to be exposed to the normal outside world. Home Advisor was not able to meet our requirement because they have no insight into the health of their contractors so they sent us two contractors who were unvaccinated and we had to cancel twice. On the third try, the contractor just happened to be vaccinated so we thought all was well, but he cancelled on us an hour before he arrived for personal reasons. I also signed up for a housecleaning project and that woman cancelled on me the same day as the appointment, again for personal reasons. Undaunted, I signed up again for a housecleaning project, and that person brought her 4-year old son to our house because her babysitter fell through. She did not tell me in advance that she was bringing her child and she left him fairly unattended while she worked. When I saw the child running around, handling all our knick-knacks and moving things around the house, including throwing them on the floor, I decided to sit down and babysit her child for 4 hours while she cleaned. He was a beautiful little 4-year old boy and my husband took quite a liking to him, but that was the final straw for me. After that, I quit the Pro Service. I want to know who's coming to my house, I want to be able to depend on the contracted professional to show up when they say they will. I still plan to use Home Advisor, but I want to talk directly with the professionals myself and make sure, first of all, that I'm not adding the additional risk of infection to the cancer patient in my home, and secondly, that I have a better idea of who I'm hiring."
