"I placed an order online on June 27 for three items. Two of those items were quantities of Seco-Larm miniature door/window contacts to replace my existing larger sensors.
Since I had heard nothing after the initial order confirmation, I logged in on July 2 to check the status of my order. I was surprised to see the status still listed as "Processing" for all items so I sent an email requesting an update.
On July 5 I received an email reply:
"We apologize for the delay. A few of the items you ordered, are special order from the manufacturer, which typically take 7-10 business days. The most recent update given by the manufacturer is that, these should be received by early-mid next week, there is a slight delay, due to the holiday this monday."
Today (July 15) I received a phone call and email informing me that the manufacturer (Seco-Larm) had just notified ISSI that the items must be ordered in quantities of 10 (I had ordered 21 and 5). For my order to proceed, I could reduce the 21-count item to 20 and order 5 more of the other. ISSI also does not stock these items, so they can not keep the excess to sell to the next customer who might need them. If I modified my order, they estimated that it would be another 7-10 days before I received it.
I was told that this situation was very disappointing yet that ISSI was completely free of blame and therefore they could not expedite the order or adjust the pricing for my having to order more items than I need. I pointed out that the website did not mention that these items were special order, nor was I informed of the back-ordered status until I contacted ISSI. I was told that with hundreds of thousands of items and so many orders, it would be impossible for ISSI to keep track of which items are not readily available and which orders are back-ordered. "That's why we recommend that you call us before placing an order to check on availability if you need it quickly."
Needless to say, I'm surprised to see all of the glowing reviews."
