"I have been tricked into buying cheap, chemical ridden herbs from MountainRoseHerbs.com. I can clearly smell preservatives in their products. I only wish to help others by leaving this review. Please don't be fooled by this company's dishonesty."

Adulterated Product with potential for harm

"I recently purchased chaparral from Mountain Rose and was shocked by the distinctive chemical smell and taste of the product. There is something very unnatural about how this product was prepared and stored before shipping to customers. But then, there was a Proposition 65 warning label on the package, so I guess that gets them off the hook. I decided that it was probably not in my best interests to continue to do business with this company. I also bought several other products from Mountain Rose Herbs but now I am concerned about their continued use. I hope they can fix their quality problems."

ABSOLUTELY SUPER HAPPY!

"I SEARCHED AND SEARCHED FOR HERBS THAT LISTED THE COUNTRY OF ORGIN. ALL THE SPICES AND HERBS HAVE COUNTRY OF ORGIN AND ORGANIC TOO! THE QUALITY IS OUTSTANDING AND THE PRICE IS REASONABLE! IN SOME CASES A GREAT DEAL. NO, IT'S NOT AMAZON PRIME! BUT, GET REAL PEOPLE THESE HERBS ARE HAND FILLED TO ORDER AND ARE SUPER FRESH. IT TOOK A WEEK TO RECEIVE MY ORDER. NOT TOO LONG TO WAIT FOR QUALITY! CAN'T WAIT TO ORDER MORE!"

Too long to receive order.

"I haven’t received my order yet to review the products, but I never anticipated it would take 4 days to process my order and now their shipping method shows it will take 5 days to arrive... and I was charged a small fortune for shipping! I could have ordered the same products, with free shipping, and had them at my door by now. I will not be reordering."

Something's Not Right With Their Products

"They definitely, positively, absolutely without a doubt put something on their products which remains on the product until consumption. Some type of pesticide, preservative, something. It's undeniable. I can't even gauge the effects of the herbs because the effects of whatever is on there completely overpowers the already low quality herbs. Burning dry lips, sore throat, burning eyes, and an overall weird feeling, only felt when consuming their products. If you already have their products, throw them away or boil them for at least 5 minutes. That seems to help some. Don't consume raw."

Great overall experience!

"They may not be the fastest in shipping, but I am OK with that because they actually HAND FILL all of the orders. They do not have product sitting on shelves waiting to be ordered. They literally receive your order for one pound of an herb that grows in South America, it gets handfilled it and then ship it. This creates hundred of jobs and less ecological impact! Culturally, we have been spoiled by companies like Amazon who are ginormous corporations. How grateful we should be to have access to organic herbs! The quality of what I get is worth the two weeks it sometimes takes to receive my order. I am on the other side of the country after all! Thank you for all that you do Mountain Rose, don't mind these haters! "

Fraud

"I live in Canada and I received my order from them within a week. I was happy about it. One of the things I ordered was Licorice root powder. I've had Licorice root tea and I know how it taste I know how the powder mixed in water tastes like. When I used the one from the mountain rose herbs it tasted like smelled and tasted like a different spice. It was mixed with a similar colour looking thing I don't know what spice it is but it tasted bitter and Licorice root never tastes like that! I cannot consume it because since I don't know what herb or whatever other root is mixed with it, it can be dangerous for me. I can't believe this.

Don't be fooled by the professional looking label, website or popularity of this company they fool people! I can't believe how they can sell stuff like that. I will make sure to never purchase from them again. Not to mention how expensive the shipping was. I bought from this company because I was fooled into thinking it was professional.

Very slow, don't tell you when items are out of stock, dishonest, and have inflated shipping charges

"I had been ordering from MRH for years, but this latest incident was the last straw.

I placed an order a couple of weeks ago, and apparently one of the items was out of stock, even though there was no indication of that on the Web site. But instead of notifying me and asking me what to do, like a decent company would, they just shipped my order and then on the invoice indicated "out of stock -- you will need to reorder this item." I was shocked. I sent them an e-mail and told them this was unacceptable and poor customer service, and then they made the following excuses: 1) they don't notify you when items are out of stock because it may "slow" down their process (which seems like a joke, because they are already pathetically slow); 2) they only notify you if at least 25% of your order is out of stock; 3) they "try" to keep their Web site up to date, but sometimes it's not "possible" to know for sure if an item is in stock. Yeah, right. Pathetic.

And here are some other problems I've had with them in the past:

1) As I mentioned, this company is SLOW. Once you place an order, it is not unusual for them to take 4 business days or more to actually ship it.

2) They are dishonest with some of their products. For instance, last year I ordered some ground Ceylon cinnamon, but what they shipped me was actually the much cheaper cassia cinnamon instead under a false label, and then they played dumb, blaming it on a "new supplier." And they also claim to carry "arrowroot," which in spite of their labeling is not true arrowroot at all, which always comes from the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean. Their "arrowroot" is cassava starch or something similar that is much cheaper, but definitely not true arrowroot.

3) Their shipping charges are outrageous, and I suspect that they inflate them.

Anyway, please do yourself a favor and don't do business with this company. I'm so glad I'm moving on and won't have to deal with them anymore.

Poor service

"I sent a email asking for free or reduced shipping if I were to order, I had Shea butter from them from before that lasted three years, they emailed back an excuse saying they don't offer that due to increased cost of fuel. I ordered anyway and ended up returning without opening it, I emailed asking for a return package label, they emailed me back their return policy which tells u how u don't have to contact them for a return label, I emailed again replying that I know that but how do I get a return label, will u guys send me one or do I have to purchase one from the post office , how? No response, so I had to pay again much more for a return label at the post office, and factoring the shipping that also is non refunded I would say that their service is horrible "

Poor shipping

"When you operate your own business, getting your product in a timely fashion is critical. That being said their shipping is ridiculous. It's expensive and it takes more than a week to ship your order. I placed an order on 3/31, today is 4/6 and it still hasn't shipped.

Other than shipping I love their product, all of their herbs are fresh and beautiful. But when you rely on your order coming in a decent time frame it doesn't work out. For this reason I'm looking for a new supplier.

Fast response to the email, great customer service so far..

"I ordered some products expecting them to ship out next only to find out they wouldn't be. This was an issue because my sister is in town for her birthday and I really wanted to suprise her. Sent an email to them and they almost responded immediately. When I called I got friendly service from a gal who says she used to live around nebraska where I do and said she would take care of my issues. As a small company with great products and doing everything by hand I can appreciate their honesty. If it hadn't been for my sister I would have been happy for the wait. Look forward to doing business with them again."

Wonderful customer service experience!

"I had placed a large order with MRH which included 2 essential oil 'starter kits'. My order was shipped all the way across the country from Oregon to New York. It took 6 days for my order to ship and 2 weeks to arrive, in part because of severe snowy weather conditions in OR around the time I placed my order (not really their fault). While most of the items I received were sufficiently packed and protected with bubble wrap, air bubble and paper, the most expensive items in my order (and the most fragile) were not. They unfortunately arrived with shattered glass bottles and leaking oils.

After contacting their customer support via email, I received a response within just a couple of hours. They offered to ship me 2 brand new essential oil kits 3-day air at no cost to me, and I was not required to ship back the damaged items. They also let me keep the bottles that were not damaged in transit.

Upon receiving the new sets there was a note on my order receipt that specifically stated "Please use extra padding/packing materials" ...and they most certainly did! This time they were very securely and carefully wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and all 16 glass bottles arrived perfectly safe and in one piece.

I wanted to say that I'm very impressed with how they handled my issue and their attention to detail. The beautiful containers and boxes their products come in are thoughtfully designed and unlike anything you will find in other stores. I'm thoroughly enjoying my new herbal teas, essential oils and hydrosols. The quality of everything I received is excellent. I highly recommend them for DIY skin care/aromatherapy supplies, their selection is probably the best out here. Can't wait to place a second order with them. Thanks Mountain Rose! :)

the bloom is off this rose

"they will expedite an order for a fee. before 2009 this company was prompt courteous and timely but they grew along with their ego, and added middle management, which means more money co spends on labor. 2014 or 15 they added solar to reduce their overhead. how is it that one can purchase organic herbs at amazon for less; ie., maca root, shitake mushroom , and gelitain capsules to name a few. hold on to your pocketbook when looking for products here. co did not request this review, ordered week ago with weather caveat and they need more time to process. we got your money and you wait for two to three weeks in a temperate climate, with their weather who knows. seems like a sleezy way to wangle an additional five dollars. "
