"I too got the Fedex Smartpost lame shipping. And I didn't order through Amazon so that excuse is a lie. I ordered on a Friday evening and it didn't ship until Tuesday. Then it sits and when it finally does leave it gets to Sacramento and sits at Fedex for 9 hours before going to Smartpost where it sits for three days. Total time for delivery: 10 days, not counting the weekend. Their website said 4 days."

Bought some parts from this outfit, found them on Amazon. They advertise fast shipping, even showing a FedEx map on their site that said I would get my parts in 2 days. After placing an order, 2 days later I finally got a FedEx tracking number that worked. Guess they forgot to mention they use an ultra-lame FedEx service called FedEx SmartPost. Apparently FedEx picks up the package at Parts Express, sits on it for several days then FedEx brings it to the post office and mails it. Yup, I should see it in my mail box about a week after I ordered it. Contacted their Customer Service asking what about the fast shipping and was told "Since you placed your order on Amazon, it was shipped via FedEx Smartpost Service therefore it does not fall under 2 day delivery time frame. I am so sorry for any confusion!" Perhaps they should add that disclaimer before the order is placed not after waiting 2 days before nothing shows up."
"As a customer of over two years, I can attest to the quality wares distributed by Parts Express. A lot is as close to "top of the line"/brand name as you can get without paying out the nose (meaning, it is the brand name stuff, but altered in some way to make it discounted, or it's *their* version of a high-end item), so they're a great place to hit up when you're looking for a myriad parts and equipment. (You just can't find many sellers giving you as many options for DIY projects these days.)
Nevertheless, it must be mentioned that Parts Express is NOT the best when it comes to out-of-state shipping.
If you have expensive or exceedingly large (in size) orders, the shipping rates are justified. But as someone noted earlier, anything small is insane... and it hurts the wallet; getting small items "on sale" is almost the same as buying them at regular prices with the handling fees incurred.
The best aspects of Parts Express are mainly their frequent sales and huge selection. If you don't know exactly what you're looking for, one browsing session through a significant portion of their inventory can make you well-informed enough to make the correct purchases later on.
Not that they balance out the high S&H rates, but the acceptance of Paypal, inclusion of tracking numbers (this should be a no-brainer given the sitch!), and excellent customer service are nice. The only time I had to get in touch with a customer service rep was immediately after placing an order; an erroneous charge--their mistake--was cleared up with a couple of prompt and efficient emails.
I'd suggest Monoprice as an alternative for the small stuff (at bargain rates and great shipping--see my post on them for more details), but for larger, more expensive parts and hardware, Parts Express is very good.

"I have ordered from Parts Express a number of times over the last 3 or 4 years. They are by far the BEST online retailer I have purchased from. I have only had one problem out of at least 25 orders. ONE of several item I ordered was not in the box but a quick call and NO QUESTIONS asked they sent out another! Mistakes happens, were all human but they fixed there mistake and apologized for it. Amazing customer service, great prices, awesome sales and there promotion codes are always nice. Oh and of coarse great products and selection. I talked a friend into ordering some 5.25" tb neo subwoofers from them that they had on sale but the sale ended before he got a chance to order. He sent them an email and they were willing to extend the sale pricing for him! Great people here. Don't hesitate to do business with them. They ship fast and all that good stuff, but their shipping prices are insane. They charged me 14 dollars to ship a spool of speaker wire from Ohio to CA. Buying smaller items from them is out of the question because of their shipping prices. Most of the time the shipping cost is as much as the item itself if you are buying something small."
