" I ordered a canon powershot SG6 from this store on Feb 3, after finding it on comparison sites, with the lowest price for NEW. There were a few lower prices at other shops but refurbished. I received a confirmation email saying my order had to be verified by their fraud dept and I could call to expodite this. I called (on Sat) and got a recording saying no one was there till Monday.
Sunday night (Feb 5)a man called from there, to verify my shipping address. He then went on to push "deals" on me, like saying the camera only came with a 32 MB memory card and I could only take 32 pictures with this (I have an Epson camera with a 32 MB card and can take 70-400 pictures with it, depending on quality). I kept saying I had borrowed the money for the camera and couldn't buy anything more right now. He said it would be shipped the next day (Monday Feb 6) by UPS and I would get an email saying this. My debit card wouldn't be charged till it was shipped (it hasn't been) Today is Feb 9th, and not getting any email yet, I put the camera store in google and found your site with the negative reviews! I read the same story, what happened with me, I was pressured to buy more. Even though the camera, itself was a low price. And, since I didn't buy more, apparently it's not going to be sent. I have emailed them asking about this and saying if they don't plan on sending it to cancel it and let me know so I can buy it elsewhere.
Even though they apparently don't take the money FOR the camera, it's still a waste of time, and had I not found your website, who knows how long I'd have waited for it to be shipped.
Do I hope that maybe I will still get it at some point?
Isn't this something sort of ILLEGAL? Even though they don't take your money, just don't ship the camera unless you buy more/expensive stuff to go with it?
LATER: I got a response to my email asking about what I learned on this website, saying they were cancelling my order. Apparently it's true they advertise low prices, then don't send it unless you buy high priced accessories (they push on you) to go with it.
I'm bummed out, because I thought I was getting the camera for the price that advertised, so budgeted around that, and now a week has gone by and I don't have enough to get the camera (new) at other sellers I found.
Even though they might say the camera was out of stock (as some here wrote)it's still false advertising to offer one price then not send it unless you buy overpriced extras. Of course, they don't SAY this, but it's obvious.
They give a bad name to all online camera stores."
"After trying two other NYC places for a good price on a camera, and getting a major PIA salesperson pushing hard for me to buy ultra-high priced add ons, (299.00 for a 512 memory card???) I finally ordered from Stop4Camera. I read some bad reviews about them too, and was a bit worried, but "John" wasn't real pushy about accessories, although I did buy a 5 year warranty for 79 bucks. Frankly, I was worried the whole time until the camera got here today, a day early, shipping was free, and the camera is new in box, and the whole deal went fine. Truthfully though, it was a nerve-wracking experience wondering if it was all a scam, or if we would ever see the camera. I would probably elect to buy locally next time even if it meant more money, but only because these cheap deal camera guys have ruined their own reputations by screwing people around. "
"Another obvious bait and switch scam operator. I ordered the Nikon D70s, got the call to confirm the order with the standard "battery doesn't last, you need the $200 extended battery" scam which I refused, extended warranty, which I refused, extra charger, which I refused, and during hte conversation the salesperson said "only an idiot would buy this camera with the standard battery" to which I calmly told him I'd take my chances. He said it was in stock, finally gave me an order number with no extras and said I'd get a confirming email. Two days pass, no confirming email, I called to check on it and was told it was out of stock and that they must have just sold out of the D70s body only units while I was on the line so my salesman thought it was in stock, but they'd be happy to sell me a D70s "kit" which has the extras, and is in stock. I told them to cancel the order, and got a prompt email canceling it. I called back just for fun from a different phone number and posed as a new customer and was told they have plenty of D70s body only units in stock. Standard scam, if you won't buy the upsell, they act as if they are taking your order, don't ship anything, hoping to get you in a time crunch for Christmas if you need the product and try to sell you the more expensive "kit" when you call in. I ordered the D70s body only from Etronics for about $20 more, and no problems, quick email confirmations, etc. Don't use the scam artists, use Etronics."
"I hope I don't get an invoice from these guys, i.e. I try to get out of my order again.
Nice price,
abysmal customer service (just call them after hours and listen to their voicemail - you'll get the jist),
and on-time delivery is defined by informing you that the item is in-stock when you order, only to tell you 2 days later that it will take 7-14 days until you get the merchandise.
Yeah, right!"
"These jerks took my order for a Panasonic GS200 camcorder in mid-January at an aggressive price. However, they couldn't find one to ship in three months! I'm sure it's only coincidental that meanwhile they raised their web price significant. Avoid these scum!"
"A real scam. Had to call them, then they tried to sell me the stuff that acording to their ad came with the original order. I canceled the order."
"This is a bad-old-school New York camera store.
They insisted on a phone "confirmation" of my online order, and tried to sell me a bunch of overpriced
acessories. They eventually accepted my order without any extras, but then never shipped the
goods, or communicated in any way about the lack
of shipment, or answered email queries. They
were forthright when I called to cancel."
"Ordered a Digital Camera. Order never shipped on time. Called to see what happened, and a sales rep gave me a sales pitch to buy other products, such as accessories and extra warranty. After I told him I didn't want any (15 minutes after) the agent got quite frustrated and hung up on me. After 4 more days of order processing, order never shipped and I canceled the order. I guess they just want to sell you more stuff and if they can't, they just don't ship the original item ordered. "
"Terrible experience with Stop4Cameras. First and last purchase. Stick with someone who isn't working bait and switch.
After filing complaint with NY attorney general and another buyer evaluation service (who rated them much higher) I finally got the camera in mid-February. I suspect if I hadn't done the due dilligence thing with regulatory officials I'd still be waiting.
These guys don't deserve anyone's business. Buyer beware."
"I ordered a PV-GS200 from stop4camera.com on 1/26. I received an email stating that they would contact me when the order was shipped. No email. After 3 days, I called and was given the hard sell about accessories. I declined all. I was told that the camera would arrive in 3-4 days because of my location (Philadelphia) and that it was shipping that very day. Today, 2/2, I read the reviews on your site. I called at spoke to the saleperson. He stated that my item was on backorder for a week and a half and that the reviewers I quoted to him simply "got impatient" and I'd get my camera soon. Obviously a total scam. I canceled my order and am praying that my credit card doesn't get charged. "
"Tried to buy a Sony videocamera. Complete scam. If you do not buy a warranty or extra (overpriced) accessories, they will simply not send your order. They will tell you the item is unavailable until you get tired of waiting and cancel your order. Bait and switch. Completely unethical. "
"Very bad experience. Three days after I ordered, I got a sales call -- a hard sales pitch to sell me all sorts of accessories. I didn't buy, and they didn't ship. I've been waiting 10 days now, and the web site still says my order is being processed. To make matters worse, this was a Christmas present and now I have nothing to give my husband. I would never order from this company again. "
"Before placing my order for a Nikon D70 digital slr camera, I called this merchant to confirm availability and was told that it was in stock and if I order today (Thursday December 16th) it would ship tomorrow (Friday December 17th). I immediately placed the order on their website. When I received no confirming email by Sunday (12/19), I called the merchant again (they are closed on Saturdays) to find out if they had shipped on Friday as promised. The guy said that they only ship the next day if you order by phone rather than internet (I had not been told this), but since I was calling now (Sunday) the order would ship tomorrow (Monday). The guy located my order and then informed me that they will handle the Nikon rebate and "save me the trouble." I've never heard of a retailer doing this so my warning flags went up. I then got the hard sell for accessories and extended warranty, all of which I declined. After declining the additional items, I was informed that the order would not ship tomorrow as promised earlier in the call, that it will now take 7-10 days. I immediately cancelled the order. From reading the reviews on this site, this seems like a fairly common slimy tactic. I then searched for another seller and after reading the reviews and comparing prices, I ordered the camera from Buydig.com and am hoping for better treatment from them."
"They delayed my canon s500 camera delivery to try to
sell me extra accessories. Then they said that I
could have my camera shipped on time if I ordered
the extra kit. Otherwise, my camera would not be in
stock for 2-3 weeks.
Total Scam Artists. I worked with them for 11 days
until I finally cancelled my order. They would not
deliver low priced camera without selling you over-
priced accessories.
Bait and switch scam artists!"
"I placed an order with 3 days shipping for a Canon EOS 20D with 18-55mm lens on Dec. 14, 2004. My order shows on the account as processing. However, the Stop4Camera has never done anything on my order. I sent 4 emails to request them to fill my order as soon as possible, they read it but nothing his been done. Stop4Camera also jacked up their price for the Canon 20D with 18-55mm lens from $1289.99 to $1379.99. Watchout, sellerratings shows that only people bought their expansive extended warranty received their order. A store like this should be taken out from market. BBB shows 3 settlements in the past 24 months.
Stop4Camera called me on Dec. 19 that the camera will arrive on Dec. 22. The sell associate asked me to stay home waiting for the delivery. I checked the Stop4Camera web site. The web site still indicated the order was in processing. On Dec. 22, the Stop4Camera failed to deliver as promised. I called the Stop4Camera on Dec. 30. Stop4Camera associate Mr. John wanted to sell expansive accessories and extended warranty in order to push the back order to delivery as a package. I filed a complaint to the BBB.com. If you did not get what Stop4Camera advertised, you should file a complaint to BBB.com. This is not the right way to do business online."
