"My experience with this company was so bad that I reported them to the Better Business Bureau (and found they have an unacceptable rating for their failure to respond to questions regarding the 65 complaints against them).
In trying to purchase a propane patio heater, price $200 (not actually a deal at all, I found out later), I was given a box that was missing three major parts. Inside, the manual had scribbles all through it, obviously from the last person who had purchased and returned this heater.
The heater was not billed as a returned or remanufactured item. When I went to return it, I looked at the rest of their inventory of this product. Boxes with holes, etc. suggested that the one I got was *not* the only unlabeled and uninspected returned merchandise.
Despite trying to pick a "new-looking" box, it was again short on two parts (including the manual), and dinged up.
I'm still awaiting a working version of this heater. They claim to have ordered them from the factory, at this point.
Worse than putting returned merchandise right back on the shelves until it finally doesn't get returned, Surplus Computers has a policy of never giving money back. They almost never allow store credit, either. If you lose your receipt, you won't even get a second chance to get one of their products that works.
It's one thing to have a no refund policy on used computer equipment. It's another to sell returned items as new, and never give people their money back. It's a game of musical chairs, with customer money. And the store is never the one caught standing up.
It's a scam, and it's made me mad.
The company has taken back my return and receipt. (I had to make them give me a voucher to show the product had been returned.) So, I don't have any invoice number to verify my claim. For what it's worth, here's the BBB complaint report number:
