"I, like an idiot, violated my own #1 rule, which is: "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Nonetheless I went ahead and ordered online. A few minutes after submitting my order someone from the company called me to confirm my order, and promptly started his spiel about how the factory battery would only last a few minutes. I explained to him that the camera I was ordering was a replacement for an identical camera that I had dropped off the flybridge of my boat and broken. The battery and memory sustained no damage so I didn't need them. At that point he hung up. Had I known that the company was in New York I would have never called them in the first place. Someone once asked me what I had against New York, and I replied, "nothing, aside from the fact that the place is chock full of New Yorkers". As a native Floridian I have aquired an intense hatred for "know it all New Yorkers", and this company (along with Rudy Gulliani's speech at the RNC) has just reaffirmed it. Summary: Beware of New Yorkers promising something that sounds to good to be true>"
"I feel like my recent experience with TechonDigital.com was a con-job. My dealing with them leads me to believe they are operating something similar to a switch and bait scheme.
I ordered the Garmin Nuvi-760 last week. The price was much lower than the market price, but their rating on EveryPrice.com was more than acceptable, so I didn’t think I was taking much of a chance to deal with them. After placing my online order, I received an email to call them in order to confirm the order. When I called I received a solicitation for many items that I did not want.
Two days after saying "no" to the long list of items on their sales pitch, I received an Email that stated:
“We thank you for your order and appreciate you shopping with us . Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding .” [I copied this exactly from the email, including the grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure errors]
I have since checked their website many times since receiving the above notification, and the unit has constantly shown as in-stock. They have even lowered the price by $20.00 since I placed my order. They have yet to Email me indicating the unit is again available.
Finally today, I called in. When I first asked if the unit was in stock, the sales rep said yes. Then he told me that “the only thing it needs is a memory card”. When I told him no, he changed to saying the unit would not be available for 6 to 8 weeks. When I asked why the website shows it in stock, he simply hung up on me.
I don’t know if they have ever truly had the unit in stock, but the way they handled the sales pitch for the add-ons, I can only draw an assumumption that they have had the unit available this whole time. I don't think they will sell the unit at their advertised price unless I purchase more products that enhance their profits. If this is the case, it is very deceiving.
I’ll be forwarding this letter to both the California and New York State Attorney General’s offices, as well as to ****@****.

"Classic bait and switch, same as all the other reviews. Parent company is Starlight Camera. Ordered GPS for great price, got an email asking to call and confirm order, then was told more or less if I didn't buy expensive accessories the item was backordered. These accessories weren't just overpriced, they were ridiculous. They wanted over $200 for a 2GB SD card you can get at Best Buy for $22. SCAM SCAM SCAM"
"I'd be shocked if this review ever gets posted as I fear it will be screened away for fear they'll be finally exposed as scam artissts. I work in sales, and techondigital.com is a SCAM a Bait and Switch Scam. I ordered my camera, the following day a rep called me to confirm my order. He immediately told me I needed a memory card. When I asked him about the one that comes with the camera he said it only holds 4-5 pictures, but for $99 he could get me one that holds 250. I declined. Then he said the battery only lasts for 15 minutes and for $129 he could get me a 6 hour battery. I declined. Finally he offered me a battery, memory card, case and other accessories for $299. I declined. He then informed me that my "camera" was gray market, meaning it comes with all Japanese writing, etc. I told him that is not the picuture of the camera I purchased, nor did it state that anywhere. He said it was in their "policy" but would cancel the order. I told him this whole thing makes me very uncomfortable, and the fast talking, slick, scam artist New Yorker cancelled my order and hung up without a good bye, apology or any sense or wrong doing. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE. Check BBB, check them, the reviews are AWFUL!!!"
"Techon Digital works a bait and switch. After I ordered, I received a call to buy an over-priced, high speed card for my digital camera. When I refused to do so, my order was cancelled and they said it was due to the product being on back order for 6 - 8 weeks. Yet, if you call them or go online, the product is still available. They won't sell the low priced product unless you buy their accessories. Everyprice.com, however, shows all these positive reviews. Somehow we need to get our comments on that website. Plus, report them to the New York Better Business Bureau."
"I found this forum after I placed my order. Unlike the other reviewers, I called them first, because I had not immediately received a confirmation email. They did try to sell me SD cards for a Garmin Nuvi 360. I politely declined, and they said fine. I then got the email asking me to call, which I did. They confirmed the order, and that was it. THEN, I saw all these reviews, and I became concerned.
The next day, I received the email telling me my order was cancelled. For $40 more dollars, I ordered the item from Amazon, and feel much better and more secure."
"I found a link to techondigital.com on everyprice.com, where it had very good ratings. Obviously, everyprice.com is just as bad as techondigital.com. Techondigital is a bait-and-switch company and should be forced out of business. I can't believe that they are allowed to legally function as a business. Do not even attempt to deal with them or order anything, you will not be happy."
"I am not sure why i bought it from them but i did. I ordered a Canon 870 ($220) which is a great price. A person called me right after i placed the order online and demanded that i buy a battery because the "OEM battery only works for 15 minutes" when i questioned his judgment he immediately became belligerent and told me that he will not be able to sell me the camera without the extra battery and if i really want the camera he can let it go for $350. I promptly canceled the order and called my credit card company to put this company on the ban list.
Avoid them as they are crooks!!!"
"WOW! I normally due a better job of checking out companies. I read the reviews on Techondigital and it was a replay of the scam ran on me. Like the rest I've never received a "call and confirm order" email before. The call resulted in a high pressure sell for additional equipment from a guy named James ***-***-**** x201. Turned him down and he gets rude. Next day I get the email telling me verbatim what the others are reporting, item is out of stock and won't be in for 6-8 weeks. A day earlier it was shipping. I attempted to call James again and he was mysteriously not there, but I got an equally rude person who made no apologizes. "That how it is." "I don't know what to tell you.""
"I was unwilling to place an order with this company based on the quality of customer service. I called to inquire about a digital camera and to purchase a camcorder. When I stated the models I was looking for the person stated, "I don't have it in stock good-bye." His tone was extremely unpleasant. I was able to request to speak with his supervisor before we were disconnected when he informed me that he was the owner of the company. When I asked him why I should consider doing business with him when he was so rude he replied, "I won't do business with YOU because it's out of stock." I then informed him that I was calling to inquire about and possibly purchase two items when his tone changed. I informed him that I preferred to invest more in my purchase than to support his business. Avoid this company. They are highly unpleasant to deal with!"
"I had the same EXACT experience as the last reviewer. Ordered a Garmin for a very good price, they tried to sell me an incredibly expensive SD card (I didn't buy). They confirmed my order & 3 day shipping. After a week, no confirmation e-mail, no product. After calling them, they told me, "Congratulations, we canceled your order". The person, who claimed to be the owner, was the rudest customer service person I have EVER talked to. I wish I would have checked here for store reviews, prior to wasting a week. Instead I checked on everyprice.com, where this outfit 5 stars. They are definitely in on the racket."
"Can't believe I fell for this, I know better. Unbelievably great price ($255 for Garmin 660) and 100% positive reviews. Looks like EveryPrice.com is part of the scam. Anyway, after ordering got an email instructing me to call to confirm the order. Did this and some rude @sshole tried to sell me an over-priced SD card and extended warranty. I ended up telling him what to do with his SD card and warranty. Wasn't too long after that I got an email informing me, regretfully, that the order was cancelled due to a 6-8 week back order. Right.

Do not waste your time with this peoples you go an place your order , later you will receive a E-MAIL asking you to call them to verify your order , when you call them, they will try to sell you an extended warranty or overprice memory cards , if you refuse to buy any thing else the next thing is. you get an E-MAIL canceling your order with the excuse that they do not have the GPS in stock and that it will take 7 to 8 week to get it, I have my wife to call them and ask if they have the GPS they say that they have it, so when I questioned them, they treated me like DIRT with offensive language and the worst is, that they have my credit car information
"
"BEWARE!! This is a SCAM! They hook you in with really low prices on their products, but you have to call an 800 number to confirm your order. When you do, a rude, aggressive sales person tries to sell you all these expensive accessories and tell you you really need them to make the product work for you. I at first ordered the accessories, then decided I could find them cheaper elsewhere, and when I called back and spoke with the same guy, William, he told me he couldnt cancel the order even though I had just spoken with him half an hour ago, and that I had to call customer service, which was closed at that time because it was late at night. When I called customer service the next morning, expecting them to honor my wishes to cancel the order, the customer service rep. began arguing with me as to why I really needed the accessories and he wouldnt cancel my order!!! I eventually got stuck with the accessories because I got sick and tired of dealing with the jerks. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THESE GUYS. Theyre ultimate scam artists."
"Ordered a Canon A650is and received a conformation email with invoice number. About two hours later I received an email for me to call and verify my order. They tried to sell me batteries and a four year warranty. After I declined they told me to enjoy my order. The next day I received an out of stock email and my order was cancelled.
All though I will monitor my credit card I doubt they want to break any federal laws."
